ICT enabled learning

• ICT (Information and Communication Technology) enabled teaching and learning
refers to the integration of technology into the educational process to enhance and
support the teaching and learning experience.
• It involves the use of various digital tools, devices, and resources to facilitate
communication, collaboration, and information sharing in the educational environment.
• Use of ICT help us to develop OERs

“OER” & ICT

• The term open educational resources first came into use at a conference hosted by
UNESCO in 2002, defined as “the open provision of educational resources, enabled by
information and communication technologies, for consultation, use and adaptation by
a community of users for noncommercial purposes”
• In general we just know that it includes e-learning….e-content….

What?
• Though there is no exact definition of OER some of the popular definitions
are……
• OER are freely accessible, openly licensed text, media, and other digital assets that are
useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well as for research purposes. There is
no universal usage of open file formats in OER. (Wikipedia)
• “OER are digitised materials offered freely and openly for educators, students and self-
learners to use and reuse for teaching, learning and research.” OER includes learning
content, software tools to develop, use and distribute content, and implementation
resources such as open licences.(OECD) - Organisation for Economic Co-operation
And Development
Concept of OER
 The world’s knowledge is a public good
 Technology in general and the World Wide Web in particular provides an
extraordinary opportunity for everyone to share, use, and reuse knowledge
-(Hewlett Foundation)

Why?
• Globalization
• Demography
• New approaches to governance
• Technology

Why?
• Reasons to adapt ICT enabled learning:
• To address a particular teaching style or learning style
• To adapt for a different grade level
• To adapt for a different discipline
• To adjust for a different learning environment
• To address diversity needs
• To address a cultural preference
• To support a specific pedagogical need
• To completely cover the curriculum with quality on time

Inclusive education tools

• Personalized access to contents leading to growth of students potential and
independence
• Optimize teacher time to engage every learner
• Improve learning outcomes
• Schools build reputations: Equity access and quality

Key components of ICT-enabled teaching and learning

• Digital Devices: Incorporating computers, tablets, smartphones, and other digital
devices into the teaching and learning process.
• Educational Software and Applications: Using software and applications designed
for educational purposes, such as interactive learning modules, simulations, and
educational games.
• Internet Resources: Leveraging online resources, websites, and platforms to access
information, conduct research, and collaborate with peers.
• Multimedia Content: Integrating multimedia elements, such as videos, images, and
audio, to make lessons more engaging and interactive.
• Learning Management Systems (LMS): Using online platforms to manage and
deliver educational content, track student progress, and facilitate communication
between teachers and students.
• Virtual Learning Environments (VLE): Creating online spaces where students can
access course materials, participate in discussions, and submit assignments.
• Video Conferencing: Utilizing video conferencing tools for virtual classrooms, online
lectures, and collaborative projects, especially in situations where physical presence is
not possible.
• Online Assessments: Conducting assessments, quizzes, and exams through digital
platforms, providing instant feedback to students and streamlining the grading process
for educators.
• Social Media: Incorporating social media platforms for educational purposes, such as
discussion forums, collaborative projects, and information sharing.

ICT tools should be…

• Free
• Built-in
• Mainstream
• Non-stigmatizing

Inclusive Classroom
• Reading
• Writing
• Maths
• Communication

We are offering in this course……

• Module 1: Introduction to ICT in Education
• Module 2: Basic Productivity Tools
• Module 3: Presentation Tools Lesson
• Module 4: Communication and Collaboration Tools Lesson
• Module 5: Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship
• Module 6: Integrating ICT into Lesson Plans
• Module 7: Assessment, Reflection, and Conclusion

To begin with
• Donot jump in creating OERs/ MOOCs
• First use ICT tools / OERs for flipped and blended learning
• Use WhatsApp, and Facebook like social media for teaching learning
• Screen and select suitable ICT tools/ OERs from YouTube/ Wikipedia/ SlideShare/
UGC e content and share the link with students.
To begin with ICT
• Enrich your knowledge in enrolling yourself in SWAYAM MOOC and
• Learn ICT tools
• Make small e contents and share with CC licence (the free licence)
• Practice using ICT tools for teaching learning

Major Challenges
• Lack of users’ capacity to access, reuse and share OER
• Language and Cultural barrier
• Insufficient inclusive and equitable access to quality content
• People are still working in isolation although collaboration is promoted.
• Awareness and use of available OER repositories are significantly low.
• Lack of skills

Summarizing: WHY ICT enabled learning?

• To retain your academic integrity as a mentor of technocrat fast learning multitasking
students
• To present the complete knowledge in power packed condensed form
• To complete the teaching in desired time frame
• Equity, Access and Quality
• to enhance the overall educational experience by making learning more interactive,
accessible, and personalized
• Remember, it is not easy, it is challenging. But it would make the teaching learning
process easier, interesting and impactful.
