DAILY LESSON LOG OF M10AL-IIa-1 (Week One-Day One)

School Grade Level Grade 10

Teacher Learning Area Mathematics
Teaching Date and Time Quarter Second
Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum standards. To meet the
objectives, necessary procedures must be followed and if needed, additional lessons, exercises and
remedial activities may be done for developing content knowledge and competencies. These are
I. OBJECTIVES assessed using Formative Assessment Strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning of content
and competencies and enable children to find significance and joy in learning the lessons. Weekly
objectives shall be derived from the curriculum guides.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of polynomials
functions.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to conduct systematically in different fields a mathematical
investigation involving polynomial functions.
Learning Competency: Illustrates polynomial functions. (M10AL-IIa-1)
Learning Objectives:
C. Learning Competencies/
1. Illustrates polynomial functions.
Objectives
2. Recall the definition of polynomial functions and the terms associated with it.
3. Write the polynomial functions in standard form.
II. CONTENT Polynomial Functions- Standard Form

These steps should be done across the week. Spread out the activities appropriately so that
pupils/students will learn well. Always be guided by demonstration of learning by the pupils/ students
which you can infer from formative assessment activities. Sustain learning systematically by providing
IV. PROCEDURES pupils/students with multiple ways to learn new things, practice the learning, question their learning
processes, and draw conclusions about what they learned in relation to their life experiences and
previous knowledge. Indicate the time allotment for each step.
Start the lesson by recalling the concepts of polynomial expressions.
Use flash cards. Refer to Activity 1: Which is which? on page 106 of LM
Answers:
1. polynomial
2. not polynomial because the variable of one term is nside the radical sign
3. polynomial
4. not polynomial because the exponents of the variable are not whole
A. Review previous lesson or
numbers
presenting the new lesson
5. not polynomial because the variables are in the denominator
6. polynomial
7. not polynomial because the exponent of one variable is not a whole number
8. polynomial
9. not polynomial because the exponent of one variable is negative
10. polynomial

B. Establishing a purpose for The teacher says: “The concepts of polynomial expressions will lead to define
the lesson and illustrate mathematically the polynomial functions.”
The teacher asks:” When is an expression a polynomial?”
The teacher will define a related concept below.

A polynomial function is a function of the form

C. Presenting examples/ P(x) = an xn + an-1 xn-1 + an-2 xn-2 + ... + a1 x1 + a0, an ≠ 0
instances of the new lesson

where n is a non-negative integer a0, a1, ... an are real number called
coefficients, an xn is the leading term, an is the leading coefficient and a0 is the
constant term.
Let students answer Activity 2: Fix and Move Them, then Fill Me Up on page 107
D. Discussing new concepts
of LM
and practicing new skills #1
Answers on page 89 of Teacher’s Guide (TG)
Say: “The terms of a polynomial may be written in any order. However, if they
are written in decreasing powers of x, we say that the polynomial function is in
standard form. Other than P(x), a polynomial function may also be denoted by
f(x). Sometimes, a polynomial function is represented by a set P of ordered pairs
(x, y). Thus, a polynomial function can be written in different ways. They can be

written in factored form and as a product of irreducible factors that is a factor
and practicing new skills #2
that can no longer be factored using coefficients that are real numbers.”
Here are some examples:
1. y = x4 + 2x3 -13x2 – 10x in factored form is y = (x2 +7)(x-2)(x+4)
2. f(x) = 2x3 +5x2 +7x -5 in factored form is f(x) = (x2 +3x +5)(2x-1)

F. Developing mastery (leads The teacher asks the students to give their own examples of polynomial
to formative assessment 3) functions in standard form.
G. Finding practical
applications of concepts and
skills in daily living
The teacher says: “The preceding task is very important for you since it has
H. Making generalizations and
something to do with the x-intercepts of a graph. We will study the intercepts of
abstractions about the lesson
the graph in the next lesson.”
The teacher gives the following for formative assessment.
Write the polynomial functions in standard form and determine the leading
coefficient and the constant term.
1. y = x(x-3)(x+4)
2. y = (2x+3)(x+1)(x-2)(x+3)
3. y = -(x-2)(x+2)(x2 +4)
I. Evaluating Learning 4. y = -x(x-1)(x+1)(x-3)(x+3)
Answers:
1. y = x3 +x2 -12x an = 1; a0 = 0
2. y = 2x4 +7x3 -4x2 -27x -18 an = 2; a0 = -18
3. y = -x4 + 16 an = -1; a0 = 16
4. y = -x5 +10x3 -9x an = -1; a0 = -0
