How did Colombia became an


independent country?

In 1791 the first revolt against the


Spanish colonial government erupted,
spreading out in fight for freedom
under the leadership of Simón Bolívar. In
1819 they defeated the Spaniards in the
battle of Boyacá, and the independent
state of Great Colombia was declared.

independence only in 1819 under the

Battle of Boyaca on August 7th, 1819.
This closure gave way to the
Angostura Congress and the birth of
the current Republic of Colombia.
