    Possessive adjectives (possessive determiners) and pronouns are used to


    show that something or someone belongs to a person.
    The possessive adjective is used with a noun.
    The possessive pronoun is used without a noun.
    The possessive pronoun replaces a possessive adjective + noun.
    We can use a possessive pronoun instead of a full noun phrase to avoid
    repeating words:

    ✓ Is that John's car?


    No, it's mine. (NOT No, it's [my car].)
    ✓ Whose coat is this?
    Is it yours? (NOT Is it [your coat]?)
    ✓ Her coat is grey.
    Mine is brown. (NOT [My coat] is brown.)

    Whose
    -Whose is a possessive pronoun.
    -We use whose to find out which person
    something belongs to.
    * Whose car is this?
    * Whose notebook was stolen in the class?
    * The child whose bicycle has been lost cried.
    * The girl whose bag is red is looking for you.
    ❖ Present continuous statements; conjunctions

    We use the present continuous to talk about actions that are happening now.
    Structure positive statements:

    Subject + be + verb + -ing

    Structure for negative present continuous statements:

    Subject + be + not + verb + ing


    Structure for present continuous yes/no questions:
    Be + subject + -ing?

    Stative verbs describe a state rather than an action. They aren't usually used in the
    present continuous form.

    She really likes you. She's really liking you.
    He seems happy at the moment. He's seeming happy at the moment.
    Conjunctions:

    ✓ We use the conjunction and to join two similar sentences.


    His favourite snacks are cakes and biscuits.

    ✓ We use the conjunction but to join two contrasting sentences.


    I eat cake, but I never eat biscuits; I don’t like them.

    ✓ We use so to indicate that we are adding a consequence or result.


    He was very hungry, so he ate all the cake.

    We use a comma in these sentences.
