Opening Invocation

We ask The One Divine Creator to grant us the

privilege of being clear channels of healing and

service to the highest good for all. We

welcome guides, angels, and all beings of

light into this day of remembering the truth of

who we are. We ask to be relieved of any doubt,

fear or negative thought forms which inhibit our

healing and release them to the Light. As our

vibrations increase to accommodate this gift of

Reiki, we ask that any energies in our homes and

environments that do not serve our highest good

be released and surrendered back to Source.

We thank The Creator for this opportunity

To Learn and receive the mysteries of Universe and ourselves.

So be it.

What is Reiki

Rei means “universal” and refers also to the spiritual dimension and
the soul. Ki as the vital life force energy that flows through all that is
alive. These Japanese characters when combined present the concept
of “universal life-force energy”.

Reiki also known as Universal Life Force Energy, Chi or Prana is a high
vibration, subtle energy that exists all around us. It is the vital energy
that every living being requires to survive. This energy is not
exclusive to any particular belief system or way of life. This
energy is all encompassing, nurturing and supportive towards all
things. It is the energy of Higher Intelligence that guides the
creation and functioning of the universe.

3
A Unique System

REIKI Shiki Ryoho or Usui Shiki Ryoho is an ancient method of

accessing universal life force energy to enhance wellbeing and promote
spiritual development. Through hands-on technique, reiki is used to
bring peace and balance to mind, body and spirit. Traditionally, the
system of reiki was passed by word of mouth from each individual
master to their students.

Reiki is more than a complementary therapy. Through the five

elements of Reiki, it is a complete system of spiritual development and
healing. It can be regarded as a spiritual journey or life path. It offers
the opportunity to expand one’s consciousness bringing peace and
wholeness into one’s life experience.

4
Being a Channel for Reiki

The Reiki practitioner is simply someone who serves as a channel or

conduit through which the universal life force is drawn into. The
practitioner allows universal life force energy to flow through their
hands and into the receiver. The receiver draws the energy they
require to heal at that time. By laying hands various parts of the body,
they transmit energy to help restore its natural flow and release any
blockages ready to be released.

A Reiki Attunement or Reiju is a sacred ritual that supports a

‘remembering’ of our ability to heal. A Reiki Teacher works as a bridge
for students to connect to the unified field and specific vibrations of
Universal Life Force. Once Attuned, one is a concentrated channel for
healing. An experienced Practitioner is open to more refined vibrations
of this Reiki energy and can somewhat direct this energy with divine
guidance. Reiki has its own intelligence therefore, once channeled, will
work with the recipient’s own energy system to bring balance on
multiple levels. Reiki is available to all of humanity because we are
all are expressions of the same source.

5
What to expect during a Reiki session?

Each session starts with setting an intention, clearing and protection

which are all important components of any energy healing session.
During the Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either
directly on or just above the body to channel energy into the recipient.
Most practitioners will work on the main energy centers in the body
starting from top of the body to the bottom. Other practitioners work
intuitively and go wherever the Reiki energy guides them to go.
Treatments are conducted mostly in silence to allow for a strong
connection to Reiki energy. The practitioner will ‘ground’ the energy at
the end of the session to allow Reiki energy to settle in the physical
body. The universal intelligence of Reiki gives each individual exactly
the healing they require and are ready to receive at that time.

Reiki and Self-healing

Reiki comes from the God-Force and is an extremely powerful healing

energy. It is one of the few forms of healing that can be used to heal
oneself. Reiki is a pure energy form. When Reiki is combined with
humility and sincerity to heal, a total healing can occur. As one heals,
they become an instrument, a clear vessel through which healing
Reiki can flow.

Reiki Can Never Cause Harm

Because Reiki is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do

harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to
create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never needs to
worry about whether to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful. In
addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does
not decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner is not in
6
danger of taking on the karma of the client. Because the practitioner is
not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of
the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.

Energy is Never Depleted

Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's energies are

never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both
practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive
treatment. Because of this, giving a treatment always increases one's
energy and leaves one surrounded with loving feelings of well-being.

A Brief History of Reiki

Reiki is an ancient method of healing from believed to have

originated in India and Tibet that was known to few. Ancient
mystery schools guarded and preserved the secrets of this
science. About 2500 B.C. this secret knowledge was recorded in a
set of Sanskrit Sutras by Buddhist monks.

Mikao Usui was born in 1865 was a Tendai Buddhist lay preacher and
lived in Kyoto with his wife. He founded Usui Shiki Ryoho, “Usui
Means of Natural Healing.” As a Buddhist, he studied in a monastery
and began learning Aiki Jutsu at an early age. He became adept in
many ancient Japanese artforms and was respected for his expertise.
On his spiritual quest in 1922, Usui climbed the Holy Mountain of
Karuna while undertaking a twenty-one day fast known as “The Lotus
repentance.” According to the memorial stone Usui Mikao’s teachings
were developed, almost miraculously, during a meditation on Mount
Karuna.

10
One day, after 21 days of a severe discipline without eating, he
suddenly felt One Great Reiki over his head and attained
enlightenment and he obtained Reiki Ryoho. This awakening, together
with his experience of understanding of Ki, meditation, and chanting,
helped him to realize that this wonderful energy could be made
accessible to people to promote well-being and spiritual development.
As a result, he developed the hands-on healing methods, known in
Japanese as “Teate.”

The Spread of Usui Shiki Reiki

Sensei thought that it would be far better to offer it widely to the

general public. In April of the 11th year of Taisho (1922 A.D.) he settled
in Harajuku, Aoyama, Tokyo and set up the Gakkai to teach Reiki
Ryoho and give treatments. Even outside of the building it was full of
pairs of shoes of the visitors who had come from far and near.

In September of the 12th year (1923 A.D.) there was a great earthquake
and a conflagration broke out. Everywhere there were groans of pains
from the wounded. Sensei, feeling pity for them, went out every
morning to go around the town, and he cured and saved an
innumerable number of people. This is just a broad outline of his relief
activities during such an emergency.

There was a great deal of poverty in Japan at that time due to the
depression. After the earthquake Usui Mikao moved his home and
place of teaching to Nakano ku, outside of Tokyo, in 1925. He was often
invited to travel throughout Japan treating people and teaching
students. Usui Mikao had over 2000 students in total (according to the
memorial stone), and 21 teacher students who reached Shinpiden
(Reiki Master).
11
Sensei’s personality was gentle and modest and he never behaved
ostentatiously. His physique was large and sturdy. He always wore a
contented smile.

Due to his respected and far-reaching reputation many people from

local districts wished to invite him. Sensei, accepting the invitations,
went to Kure and then to Hiroshima and Saga, and reached Fukuyama.
Unexpectedly he became ill and passed away there. It was March 9 of
1926 Usui Mikao died of a stroke.

These are truly great teachings for cultivation and discipline that agree
with those great teachings of the ancient sages and the wise. Sensei
named these teachings ‘Secret Method to Invite Happiness’ and
‘Miraculous Medicine to Cure All Diseases’; notice the outstanding
features of the teachings. Furthermore, when it comes to teaching, it
should be as easy and common as possible, nothing lofty. Another
noted feature is that during sitting in silent meditation with Gassho
and reciting the Five Precepts mornings and evenings, the pure and
healthy minds can be cultivated and put into practice in one’s daily
routine. This is the reason why Reiki is easily obtained by anyone.

Lineage

Reiki lineage is like an ancestral family tree that documents the path of
a Reiki Master back to the system founder Usui Mikao. Like all
spiritual lineages, each Reiki student diligently learns from their
teacher but also receives Reiju, a series of attunements or spiritual
blessings directly from their teacher.

Levels of Reiki

Level 1 (Shoden) Physical healing and self-healing

 We must cleanse and heal ourselves first and foremost before

the highest work can be done for others
 Turns the power on and is like turning a lamp on to its lowest
wattage.
 The aura and chakras have their first cleanse and release
 Student receives first Attunement (Reiju)

Level 2 (Okuden) Healing at the mental and emotional level

 Healing of past lives, early childhood, past trauma or abuse

and addictions
 False belief patterns are corrected
 Distance healing is learned and practiced
 The lamp is cranked up to its next level of wattage and light
 Student receives second Attunement (Reiju)

Level 3 (Shipinden) Healing of the soul and cosmic connection to

Source

 We literally turn the work over to God or the Highest

Intelligence (use whatever term is most comfortable for you)
 We learn we are no longer in charge of the treatment and were
never really in charge
 The lamp clicks to its highest wattage of light.
 The student is a surrendered and open vessel for truth and
healing
 Student receives third Attunement and learns how to teach and
pass Attunements

Why is Reiki different from other healing modalities?

There are many energy healing techniques being taught today. Reiki
seems to back further into history than many other energy healing
modalities. Mikao Usui rediscovered these symbols in the late 1800’s,
but there are many other sources that suggest that the symbols are in
the most ancient written texts originating from Tibet and India. Other
techniques do not work with symbols. Symbols are keys or triggers
that activate a higher, more refined energy transference. Each symbols
carries its own vibration and are activated during Attunement.

The primary difference is that Reiki allows and even asks, that
you turn this healing over to Divine Source. It is Universal Life
Force that truly is in charge of the healing treatment.

Reiki really does not have many rules because the practitioner is not
guiding the treatment. You are simply a conduit, instrument, vessel
with which Source or Universal Life Force Energy can run through and
into the receiver. This intelligence guides you toward what you do,
how long you do it and where you place your hands.

16
What are Attunements

The most important aspect of Reiki is Attunement or Reiju

(pronounced Ray-joo). Reiki is not taught but transferred during the
Attunement process from Reiki Master to student.

The Attunement is a transmission of Energy, allowing more of

the Universal life energy to flow through you. It opens the
crown, heart and palm chakras and creates a direct link between
the student and the Reiki Source.

At each Attunement, a kind of cleansing takes place on a physical,

emotional, and spiritual level. Toxins that have been stored in the
body may be released along with feelings and thought patterns that are
no longer useful. Attunement process creates an energy pattern
around the recipient of the Attunement which attunes their energy
field to the energies represented by the symbols

Reiki 1 Attunements focus on elevating the energy of the physical body

so that it may channel more intense healing energy; whereas Reiki 2
Attunements work more directly on the etheric body and tend to
stimulate the intuitive center which is located at the Pituitary gland.
Therefore, it becomes easier for those attuned to Reiki 2 to send and
receive information on an intuitive level.

5 Reiki Principles (Gokai)

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings

You are exactly where you need to be right now and you are
supported by the universe.

Just for today, I will not worry

Everything in the universe is just as it needs to be for us to
grow and evolve. Can we see the divinity in whatever happens
in our experience.

Just for today, I will not be angry

Anger arises when we are not in total acceptance of what is.
Can we surrender without wanting to change things?

Just for today, I will do my work honestly

When you speak, act, and exist in a way that is true to you,
you are in alignment with your energy. If you live with
honesty and integrity, you spread your light to others.

Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing

“Do onto others as you would have them do unto you.” The
truth of oneness is everyone is you.

19
Three Pillars of Reiki

20
The First Pillar: Gassho

- The Japanese word gassho means “two hands coming

together”
- Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth
- Concentrate all your attention on the point both of your
middle fingers touch.
- Close your eyes and sit in a relaxed position. Keep your
back as straight as possible without straining.
- Serves as a form of spiritual hygiene, a ritual to create
intention and focus, an invitation to mindfulness, a call to
set aside ego, and the primary method to invite and ignite
Reiki.

Your finger tips are home to many nerve endings and

meridians. The meridian that ends in the middle finger is the
pericardium meridian of the hand (juejin).

Reiki Practitioners
As spiritual hygiene, Reiki practitioners should engage in
gassho for 5 to 10 minutes before every session in order to
purify not only the energy of the space in which the sacred
sharing of the Reiki energy will occur, but also to enter into a
state of emptiness where he or she is open to Reiki.

21
The Second Pillar: Reiji-ho

Reiji-ho means indication of the Spirit and refers to the

guidance that comes from the Spirit of Reiki. The technique
teaches us to follow our intuition. We don’t need to develop
our intuition, it is already bestowed upon us at birth.

1. Place your hands into the Gassho position.

2. Ask that your ego be set to the side so that only pure Reiki
energy will flow through you.

3. Ask for the healing and wellbeing of the client on every

level.

4. Move your hands up so the thumbs touch the third eye.

Ask Reiki to guide your hands during the session to the
positions that are needed by this client.

5. Follow your inner guidance and allow your hands to be

directed by Reiki. Also, follow this guidance in deciding which
symbols and techniques to use throughout the session.

6. Use Reiji-ho anytime during the session when you need

additional guidance.

22
Reiji-ho

Letting life live itself by becoming a hollow bamboo for the

energy of Reiki to flow through without regard to where,
when and how it may happen.

23
The Third Pillar: Chiryo

The third pillar of Reiki, chiryo, is all about action. Chiryo means
"treatment," and it is an essential part of every Reiki session. New Reiki
practitioners focus primarily on chiryo, following the mechanical
process of placing hands on the body in set positions and trusting the
Reiki will flow where it's needed. However, as a practitioner becomes
more deeply involved in the true practice of Reiki, chiryo is something
that flows and changes depending on intuitive information the Reiki
practitioner receives and the needs of his or her healing partner.

A practitioner truly engaged in chiryo moves beyond the basic hand

positions and sometimes even moves beyond use of the hands. He or
she may be intuitively guided to gaze, tap, stroke, blow, or visualize
along with placing hands, palms, or fingertips in the ways they are
guided to do so. In this way, a session of Reiki becomes a flowing
dance of energy that involves the practitioner, his or her healing
partner, and the entire universe.

24
25
Intention is vital

The energy generated by our thoughts is the basis of

everything in our life. Each thought has a vibration and
electrical charge. Each thought is a form of matter. It has
substance. For example, guilt has a heavy, sluggish vibrational
pattern. Love and especially, unconditional love has a light
and very fine vibration.

It is important to set an intention before any healing session

with self or others. The most powerful healings occur when
both practitioner and recipient have a shared intention. A
beautiful synchronicity occurs which allows a limitless flow of
Reiki energy into the treatment.

26
27
Energy and Vibration

We are electrical beings. The aura around each of us is an

electromagnetic field. Our DNA provides the unique floor
plan or pattern of the physical body. It creates a matrix or
energy netting that directs the form of the physical body
takes. That same energy netting gives rise to trees, plants and
animals as well.

The physical body is electrical and so are our thoughts. Our

thoughts form energy patterns and shapes that remain all
around us. Thoughts create emotions and emotions
intertwine with thought to create the aura. Everything you
think creates you. You and your life reflect every thought and

28
emotion that you had ever had. You are energy first, then an
energy matrix, then the aura, and then the physical body.

Information in the form of thought and emotion is stored in

all of the body’s cells, not just brain cells. The sum of thought
and emotion from all of our cells create our auric field. This
field fluctuates with our changing thoughts and emotions.
Our electrical field, the aura, also interconnects with
everything around us in life.

Many people do not understand that we must generate our

own energy. It is common for people to unconsciously draw
on the energy of others around them instead. As your
awareness grows, you will realize that these are often people
that you unconsciously try to avoid as much as you can. You
know somewhere inside of you that being in their presence
will result in feeling drained; you will suffer and have to
replenish yourself in some way.

29
30
The Chakras

 Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”.

 There are 7 major chakras in the body has 114 chakras in
total.
 Chakras are in the etheric body, which is the first level
from the energy body.
 Chakras have energy gates or vents that allow energy
exchange between the environment and the body.
 Chakras are found along the spine and correspond to
various systems within the body (endocrine, organs)
 Chakras do not function independently. Any
dysfunction that affects one chakra may affect others
causing an imbalance.

35
Hara Energetic System
Reiki is a Japanese practice that was created in the early 1900s we are
aware that (as with many martial arts and Ki practices that were
formalized in Japan at the same time – karate, judo, aikido) the hara or
tanden were considered to be the centre of the body’s energetic
powerhouse. The word hara literally means stomach, abdomen or belly
in Japanese. Energy is stored in this point of the body from where it
expands throughout the whole body.

Usui Mikao's teachings focus on building the energy in the hara. Once
the system of Reiki became more westernized in the 1980s the chakra
system was introduced and replaced this system - the chakra system is
now commonly used in the West.

In traditional Japanese teachings and exercises today the hara system is

still the main focus for building a person's energy. There are, in fact,
two other energy centres in the body according to the Japanese
energetic system. By linking all three areas the practitioner creates
unity and balance. Most important, however, is to first develop the
lower hara, as this is the body's central axis point.

1. Earth Energy (Hara - approximately 3 inches (8cms) below the

naval)

In this centre, Original Energy is stored. This is the energy you are
born with, the energy that is the essence of your life and gives you your
life’s purpose. The Original Energy is not only the energy you receive
from your parents when you are conceived but most importantly it is
the energetic connection between you and the universal life force.
36
When the singular term hara is mentioned it is the lower hara that is
being discussed. This is the symbolic energetic centre for Earth Ki.

2. Heavenly Energy

This is the energy connected with your spirit. When you are connected
with this centre you may see colours or you might have psychic ability.
It is important for you not to become unbalanced and keep yourself
centred. If you can use this energy in a balanced way, you can see
beyond the immediate. This is the symbolic energetic centre for
Heaven Ki.

3. Heart Energy

The Heart Ki, is the point of perfect balance that is created by the
merging of Earth and Heaven, body and mind. Heart Ki is symbolically
located in the center of the chest. By tapping into Heart energy a
practitioner begins to shine, radiating light to all directions. Hurt,
pain, resentment, mental trauma, stress, anger and fear are all resolved
in this light, inviting more forgiveness, love, peace and compassion
into a practitioner’s life. The polishing of this diamond is in fact the
polishing of the self and is the culmination of balancing the mind and
body.

The three diamonds of Earth Ki, Heaven Ki and Heart Ki are at the
foundation of the system of Reiki. A diamond is often used as an
analogy of the self in Buddhism. Each and every day a practitioner
polishes the diamond by performing his or her practice.

Transcending Limiting Beliefs

 Everything is all one

 The universe has no limits
 There is no separation of time and space
 Time is not linear
 The subconscious is not aware of the
passing of time
 Realities exist beyond the physical world
 Energy can be sent to heal any situation
in past, present or future
 Energy is instant
 We all have the ability to heal ourselves
and others

40
“ Each and every being has the innate
ability to heal as a gift from God.”
~ Mikao Usui

Reiki does not require discipline or years of training to receive healing

ability or to use it. Rather, Reiki comes to us as a gift. (This is true for
the practitioner levels as well as for the Master or teaching level
wherein one can pass Reiki on to others.) The ability to do Reiki comes
immediately to the student upon receiving the attunement. During the
attunement, the ability to channel Reiki comes from the Higher Power,
passes through the Reiki teacher and into the student. The attunement
energy is guided by the Higher Power and makes adjustments within
itself for each student so that each receives exactly what they need in
order to begin channeling Reiki. During the attunement, the Higher
Power actually adjusts and heals the students chakras and energy field
and connects the student directly to the source of Reiki. After the
attunement, all that is necessary for the student to channel healing
energy is to place one's hands on oneself or a client and the healing
energy begins flowing automatically. This gift is a direct expression of
grace from the Higher Power. Because of this, the attunement process
is a very sacred and spiritual experience.

~ William Lee Rand

41
Working With Energy
Energy workers facilitate healing by transferring and transmuting
energy. Before conducting a Reiki session, it is important to set the
intention that the energy of the environment, energy sent to the client
and practitioner’s energy remain positive and of the “light” during the
session.

As the practitioner, a lot of energy is being channeled through you

from Source/Universe and also energy from the client. External energy
can also enter the environment. It is important that while practitioner
is linked to the client that the energy sent is positive.

The law of thermodynamics says that energy cannot be created of

destroyed. Lower energies may be released during the treatment and
need to be transmuted. This can be done by grounding and working
with spirit guides.

Protection

It is good to ensure you are completely free of interfering energies

before and during a Reiki session. A prayer of protection or invocation
of Angels, Guides etc. to be present during a session can be very
helpful.

- Before a session clear your environment (prayer, intention,

sage, incense)
- Light a candle and ask only light be in this space
- Ask Source, Guides and Angels to protect the energy of the
room
- Visualize a bubble or pyramid of white light protecting the
space
- Ask Archangel Michael to protect and transmute any lower
energies
42
Prayers of protection

Protection Prayer before you see a client

“I encircle myself with the white light of God’s love and divine
protection.”

Protect the room before the client enters

In each corner repeat Cho-Ku-Rei three times and say “Please
remove all previous energies from this room and invite in only
those that vibrate in God’s white light

Grounding

The term grounding means being rooted and centered in your

energy. During the session or Attunement a person may go into
an altered state of consciousness. This may feel like you are
floating, as if no longer confined to the physical body, light
headedness or disorientation. The purpose of grounding is to
allow spiritual energy to settle in the physical body.

- Imagining tree roots coming out the bottom of feet and

connecting you to earth
- Conducting session barefoot with awareness of connecting
to earth
- Using crystals such as black tourmaline, obsidian, onyx and
shungite
- Eating food or drinking water is also grounding

Grounding yourself before you see a client

Stand with your legs apart bringing the earth energy up and bring the
cosmic energy down and blend them together in your heart.
43
Working with Guides

As you work with energy, different spiritual guides are present to

facilitate the healing session. At the start of a session, I invite beings of
light, Angels, Ascended masters and above all Source/God to support
and guide the energy for the highest good of all involved.

Sometimes during the session the client may feel the presence of the
guide. For example, if the practitioner is working at the head, the
recipient may feel as if you are somewhere else on the body.

When you become Attuned to Reiki, you will receive Reiki guides who
support you during healings. Practice working with your Reiki guides
so you can get used to their energy and guidance. Guides come in
different levels of frequency. Some guides may change throughout
your life as you evolve and raise your frequency.

You may not feel guides initially, but I have found the more I
practice meditation, Reiki, self-purification, fasting, prayer, the
easier it is to connect with guides (higher aspects of yourself).
Raising your vibration allows you to access these subtler
energies.

Types of Guides

 Angelic energy (Archangels, Guardian angels)

 Ancestors
 Animal/Totem Guides
 Ascended Masters (Buddha, Jesus, Mother Mary, Krishna)
 Elementals (Fairies, Gnomes)
 Guides due to past life associations

44
How to tell true guidance from false guidance

True Guidance False Guidance

Mature tone and content Immature tone and suggestions
Says the same message Switches topics impulsively
Strong, powerful, difficult to ignore Insidious and sneaky
Has a loving and energizing feel to it Draining and fearful
Knows you are equal and one with Says you are better or worse than
others others
Empowers you Weakens you
Direct and to the point Wordy and full of rationalizations
Supportive and motivational Critical and abusive

45
Power of symbols
Symbols set Reiki apart from other energy techniques. Symbols have
been used throughout the history of man to connect to higher
intelligence and divine energy. Reiki symbols are keys to access
different forms of energy and healing vibrations in the universe. These
symbols were believed to be kept secret by Buddhist monks for many
years in sacred Sanskrit texts. Usui rediscovered these ancient symbols
on Mt. Kurama in Japan after meditating for 21 days through direct
transmission with the divine.

Common sacred symbols

Reiki symbols are keys, or triggers that activate a higher, more refined
energy transference. Each symbol carries its own path, its own
vibration and it’s own function. These sacred symbols escalate the
intensity of the vibration.

During the Attunement, Reiki symbols are placed in the student’s

energy field. Although our hands send very focused energy, the sacred
symbols do not stay in our hands alone. Our entire being radiate the
Reiki symbols. We literally emit Reiki in all directions.

46
Using Reiki symbols

Symbols must be memorized. As you memorize them you can begin to

FEEL them. It helps to develop a personal relationship with them.

- Drawing the symbols

Conducting a Reiki Session

1) Set up room (table, pillow, blanket and eye pillow)

2) Ensure a sacred space (private and no interruptions)
3) Clear and Protect the environment.
4) Comfort is key. Ensure client is comfortable on table and tell
them they can change positions at any time.

for them. If they need to take a break, go the washroom, get a
drink, or stop the session at any time that is their right.
6) Explain what you will be doing if this is their first Reiki
treatment.
7) Take a few minutes to calm the mind and help receiver settle
(guided visualization, breathing, massage)

9) Cradle the recipient’s head and set an intention for the
healing session.
“ May only love and light pass between practitioner and client.”
“Calling any beings of light under the command of
God/Source/The Creator to be present during this healing.”
“May any energy being released be transmuted or sent back to
Source.”
10) Ground recipient

12) Disconnect from receiver’s energy field.
13) Gratitude. Thanking Reiki for the gift of healing, guides, angels
and Source.
14)Post session. Recommend drinking lots of water and nurturing
themselves for a couple of days. Explain if may take a few days
for the body to purge/rebalance to integrate Reiki energy into
the body.

Using Reiki in Everyday life

Here are some ways you can incorporate Reiki into your day. Use your
creativity to see what other ways you can think of to invite this beautiful
energy into your life.

1. Infuse your intentions and prayers for the day with Reiki
when you first wake up. Also consider doing self Reiki for a
few minutes first thing in the morning.

2. Send Reiki to your food as you make breakfast (or any meal)
and also bless it as you sit down to eat the meal. You can send
Reiki to your groceries when you harvest them from the
garden or buy them at the store as well.

3. Meditation is a wonderful time to tune in to the Reiki energy,

allowing yourself to become more familiar with it or to allow
the energy to flow to yourself for self healing.

4. When you leave for the day, take a moment to send Reiki to
your car and to the trip ahead. You can also send Reiki to the
destination you are headed to and to any situation you will be
arriving into.

5. Most animals very much enjoy Reiki. It is often preferred from

a distance, though your own pets may love it hands on.

56
6. If you have houseplants, cut flowers or a garden, honor and
nourish them as they honor you. Give them an energy
exchange by offering them Reiki.

7. Use Reiki to cleanse and protect the energy of your home or

work environment

8. You can also use Reiki to quickly clear and charge your
crystals.

9. If you are having a difficult time or a conflict in a relationship,

you can send Reiki to the situation and to yourself to help
ease the difficult emotions and bring about a resolution to the
issue.

10. At the end of the day, you can send Reiki to your final prayer
and to your sleep, asking that you be shown the resolution to
any issues you are struggling with as you sleep.

Crystals and Reiki

In the Universe energy manifests itself in an infinite range of

frequencies, the crystals’ being one of them. Crystals have bright
energies that enhance our healing capabilities and help us in
many aspects.

Reiki is the art of channeling the Universe Energy to

harmonize/equilibrate the vital energy of those receiving it.
There is no doubt that Reiki has no need of crystals to heal but
these two energies create a synergistic effect during a session.

Each crystal has its own intrinsic energy and can be used for
specific purposes irrespectively of being small, medium or large,
in fragment or polished, also each chakra has crystals associated
with it.

Crown chakra Amethyst; Crystal Quartz; Herkimer Diamond;

Fluorite; White Crystals;

Third eye chakra Lapis-lazuli; Sapphire; Azurite

Throat chakra Aqua Marina; Turquoise; Blue Topaz; Chrysocolla;

Blue Lace Agate

Heart chakra Emerald; Rose Quartz; Green Jade; Green, Rose and
Watermelon Tourmaline; Malachite.

Solar Plexus cakra Topaz; Citrine; Tigers ‘Eye; Golden Calcite, Gold.

Sacral chakra Calcite; Orange Quartz; Cornaline; Ambre.

Kenyoku Ho (Dry Bathing)

Kenyoku Hô is a Japanese Shinto practise that purifies the body,

heart and spirit. It is generally used before and after the practice
of any energy work. On each out breath the hands sweep across
the body, as if you are washing yourself clean.

Sweep with your right hand from your left shoulder down and
across to your right hip.

How to Perform Gassho Breathing (Seishin Toitsu Ho)

1. Place your hands in gassho (prayer) position in front of your

heart.
2. As you breathe in, see light entering your hands and flow
through your body to your tanden. (The tanden corresponds to
the sacral chakra and is 3 finger widths below the naval).
3. During the brief pause between inhalation and exhalation, see
the light expand to fill your whole body.
4. As you breathe out, see the light flow out of your body through
the hands.
Usually, you would perform this exercise seated with your eyes
closed.

Benefits of Gassho Breathing

By moving the energy in and out through your hands, you will
increase the flow. Moving energy is a skill and the more you
practice, the better you will become.
As you practice Gassho Breathing, you will open the chakras in
your hands – and not just the ones in your palms. The little ones

65
on the pads of each of your fingers will also open up through
this. By doing that, you will increase the sensitivity to energy.
Finally, Seishin Toitsu Ho will help build your powers of
visualization. Visualization is a powerful tool in helping yourself
and others. In Chinese Medicine, they say chi follows the mind.
Being able to visualize the Reiki flowing to specific areas and
performing specific acts, your treatments will more effective.

Reiji-ho

Reiji-ho means indication of the Spirit and refers to the guidance

that comes from the Spirit of Reiki. This is a technique that
allows you to be intuitively guided during a Reiki session. It can
be used to determine how to carry out a session for a client—
which symbols and techniques to use, to determine where to
place the hands during a session as well as where to place the
hands to help specific illnesses and conditions.

A modified version of this technique can be used before you start

the session to determine which techniques you'll be using. If you
are guided to start with a Healing Attunement, followed by Aura
Clearing and then hand placements, you can follow the steps
below before beginning the hand placements while the client is
laying on the Reiki table and you are seated at the head.

1. Place your hands into the Gassho position in front of the heart
as shown in the figure above.
2. Say a prayer, asking that your ego be set to the side so that
only pure Reiki energy will flow through you. Also give thanks to
the source of Reiki and ask that it begin flowing now.
3. Say a prayer on behalf of the client, asking that she or he
receive the greatest healing experience that the source of Reiki
can conceive of.
66
4. Move your hands up so the thumbs touch the third eye (the
area between the eye brows). Ask Reiki to show you what type of
Reiki session is best for this including which symbols and
techniques to use. Also ask Reiki to guide your hands during the
session to the positions that are needed by this client. You could
also ask to be shown the best places to treat a specific condition.

5. Follow your inner guidance and allow your hands to be directed

by Reiki. Also, follow this guidance in deciding which symbols
and techniques to use throughout the session.

6. Use Reiji-ho anytime during the session when you need

additional guidance.
