Title: Improving ninth-graders' reading skills through guided reading

approach at a lower secondary school in Hai Phong.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1. Rationale of the study

English is widely used as a vital worldwide communication language by both

native and non-native English speakers everywhere in the world. Instead than
merely being utilized in English-speaking countries, English is now used more
often all around the world. Understanding and using the English language is
becoming more and more important as it has become an essential part of
promoting international trade and transboundary traveling in many countries. This
language is also used for Additionally, contact via modern media and technology,
such as cell phones, email, and the Internet, is usually conducted in English.
There's no denying that English is a language that people all around the world need
to use as their primary language of exchange.
Given the importance of English as a worldwide language, it is necessary for
Vietnamese people to be proficient in it. All students in Viet Nam's primary,
secondary, high schools, and universities must take English. The four
examinations for English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and
listening must all be passed by each individual. To achieve good scores, the
majority of Vietnamese students have invested a lot more time on developing four
talents. The most challenging of the four language skills, reading comprehension,
is a challenge for many secondary school students. They are required to perform
a number of difficult activities from the high school entrance exam. Reading,
however, is an essential part of learning English. It is a conversation between the
written word and the reader. In turn, reading comprehension can assist students
in developing the language and writing skills necessary for academic success.
Since I am aware of how crucial it is to enhance secondary school students'
reading ability when practicing their reading abilities, I would like to help the
students at a lower secondary school, where I have worked for four
years, raise scores for the ninth-grade students. I consequently decided to conduct
research on " Improving ninth-graders' reading skills through guided reading
approach at a lower secondary school in Hai Phong.”

secondary school face.
- To offer suggestions on how to support a lower secondary school ninth graders in

là Mixed research method
Nêu rõ, định tính để là gì, và định lượng để làm gì.
 Viết lại: The researcher must use both inductive and deductive procedures,
including survey questionnaires, reading samples, as well as observations,
material collection, and data analysis, in order to gather and achieve data in
a scientific manner.
Mục 4 này chỉ viết tóm tắt như trên, vì mình có cả 1 chương PP (chapter 3)
• Reading samples and survey questions:
The researcher can determine exactly the specific problems that the informants

the data, which will be then analyzed. Additionally, graphs and pie charts will be
employed to present the data.
5. Significances of the study
One of two types of importance can be found in scientific research. Both
theoretical and practical implications can be drawn from them. The two
conclusions of this research are as follows:This study is expected to make some
contributions theoretically and practically.
 The Theoretical Significances
As for the former, The the study's results is expected to contribute to some
extent to the existing literature of teaching English in general and teaching reading
skills for EFL learners in particular. The application of guided reading approach
has been widely used; however, there are not sufficient research regarding the
implementation of this technique at lower secondary school level in a non-English
speaking country. Therefore, the researcher hopes that this study can suggest some
ways to improve the effectiveness of this pedagogical approach.need to
significantly influence reading comprehension theories by supporting them and
offering new information about how to instruct reading of report materials,
according to theory.

The Practical Significances
The the researcher expects the study's findings to have practical significances
for:
a. The students, whose reading comprehension of analytical texts will be
improved as a result of this study's findings. It is possible to motivate and

The introduction, literature review, research methodology, research findings
and discussion and conclusion and recommendations are its five primary chapters.
Chapter 1: Introduction

The first chapter introduces generally about the study including: rationale of
the study; aims of the study and research questions; scope of the study;
methodology; significance of the study and research structure.

how it affects reading comprehension, but it also encourages readers to consider
the benefits and obstables of using guided reading in reading comprehension
lessons. The review of previous studies and the chapter summary are then visible
to readers.

Chapter 3: Research Methodology

The third chapter will provide readers with information on the research
environment, research design, data collection instruments, data analysis, validity,
and instrument reliability, as well as a summary of the chapter.
Chapter 4: Research Findings and Discussion
This chapter will demonstrate to readers the typical test-taking challenges
faced by ninth students in a lower secondary school in Hai Phong. The results of
the questionnaires and the interview will also be found and discussed in the fourth
chapter. The chapter will be a helpful guide for figuring out solutions to the
problems that students in lower secondary schools have with their studies and
learning.
Chapter 5: Conclusion and recommendations
