FIRE HAZARDS

WHAT IS FIRE ?
 Fire is an active chemical reaction that takes place between
FUEL, HEAT, and OXYGEN in form of any heat & radiation or
noticeable heat.

HOW IS FIRE MADE?

 The three components needed to ignite and sustain a fire. The
three ingredients of a fire triangle are: heat, fuel and oxygen.

SOURCE OF FIRE IGNITION :

 Refers to the action of setting something on fire or starting to
burn.
 Natural Heat
 Frictions
 Electrical Spark
 Static electricity
 Flammable fuels - substances capable of burning.
 Hot Surface

CHAIN REACTION :
 a chemical reaction or other processes in which the products
themselves promote or spread the reaction, which under certain
conditions may accelerate dramatically. It is a series of events so
related to each other that each one initiates the next.

Friction - the action of one surface or object rubbing against another.

Electrical Explosion - is the sudden release of energy due to a short

circuit between power phases or a phase to ground.

WHAT IS A FIRE EXTINGUISHER?

 is a piece of equipment containing chemicals or water under
pressure that can be easily carried and used for extinguishing the
fire while waiting for the arrival of firefighters. It can also be
used to extinguish the fire that cannot be extinguished with
water only.
 CLASSIFICATIONS OF FIRE
 CLASS A - ABO - ordinary combustible fire materials
involve such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and plastics.
 CLASS B - BARILES/BARRELS - Class B fires involve
flammable liquids and gases like gasoline, oil, grease, solvents,
and the like.
 CLASS C - CURRENT - Class C fires involve energized
electrical equipment.
 CLASS D - DING (TUNOG METAL) - Class D fires
involve combustible metals usually found in laboratories.
 CLASS K - KUSINA/ KITCHEN - Class K fires involve
vegetable oils, animal oils, or fats in cooking appliances.
 Water can extinguish a CLASS A fire.
 When water is used in CLASS B it can cause fire to spread
quickly because oil, crude, gasoline, and other flammable
liquids only surface the water.
 Can only follow the fire and burn other things he has passed
through.
also do not use water on plug-in appliances or CLASS C fire.
there are laboratory chemicals or CLASS D fire that may cause
fire when mixed with water.
 The fire can light or burst and suddenly increase when water is
used in a burning pan. It can cause injury and fire to anything it
hits.
HOW TO USE FIRE EXTINGUISHER?
P-PULL THE PIN
A-AIM THE NOZZLE AT THE BASE OF THE FIRE
 chemical and its pressure can stop the chemical chain reaction of fire.
The chemical will cover the surface of the fuel which can cause fire
starvation and suffocation.

S-SQUEEZE THE LEVER

S-SWEEP THE NOZZLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE
 this is to make sure that other fire and potential sources are
extinct or covered with the chemical.

WHAT TO DO DURING AN OPEN FIRE?

1. DO NOT SPILL WATER
2. TURN OFF THE GAS TANK OR LPG
3. GET A WET TOWEL
4. AND COVER THE PAN COMPLETELY

10 SAFETY TIPS :
1. Every room in the house should have a secondary exit, make sure the
secondary exit is open and nothing is blocked.
2. Practice getting out of emergency exits at least twice a year.
3. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher and make sure everyone in your
home knows how to use a fire extinguisher. Check the expiry of the fire
extinguisher it can be refilled if it has expired.
4. Unplug any appliances not in use. Avoid overnight charging of the
cellphone.
5. Avoid overloading outlets and check the extensions if the load of the
appliances being plugged in is capable.
6. Keep any chemicals such as matches, lighters, and possible sources
of fire well stored.
7. Keep the stove clean and do not place utensils on top of it.
8. Make sure the LPG does not leak if the LPG hose is dangerous,
replace it.
9. Teach all household members how to stop, drop & roll.
10. Learn the emergency numbers in your area and store them in your
cellphones.
