Verbs followed by gerund or to + infinitive II


This week we will focus on verbs followed by gerund (-ing ending) or to + infinitive.
We are only going to learn 12 expressions in order to make sure we understand and use them.
Combine these with the expressions we learnt in Pdf 1.

+ verb in GERUND (ing)

ADMIT doing something - Admitir haber hecho algo. - I admitted making a mistake.
-Si queremos remarcar que ocurrió en pasado añadimos HAVING + p.participle. -
I admit having blocked her.
-También podemos decir ADMIT TO something - They admitted to the crime.

CONSIDER doing something - Considerar, plantearse hacer algo


They are considering adopting a dog.
MISS - Echar de menos hacer algo
Jenny misses working in the academy.
SPEND HOURS doing something - Pasarse horas haciendo algo
My sister spends hours cooking every Sunday.
There is NO POINT (in) doing something - No tiene sentido hacer algo
There is no point (in) waking up so early, the post office is closed at 8.

WASTE TIME doing something - Malgastar el tiempo haciendo algo


I wouldn't waste time calling her, she never picks up.

+ TO infinitive

LEARN to do something - Aprender a hacer algo


Carlos is learning to hold his tongue before criticising others.

DESERVE to do something - Merecer algo


The Spanish team deserved to win the championship .

OFFER to do something - Ofrecerse a hacer algo


I offered to water her plants while she was in London but she refused.

REMIND someone TO do something - Recordarle a alguien que haga algo


Please, remind me to call my uncle for his birthday tomorrow!
TAKE TIME TO do something - Tardar en hacer algo
It takes me only ten minutes to clean the office, it's tiny!
be REQUIRED TO do something - Necesitar hacer algo, requerir
I am required to send the report before noon.

I thought this story was quite interesting! It's about a woman who dropped everything and decided
to buy a castle in Scotland! 🤯
Moreover, many stories revolve around this castle, so be ready to learn a bit of History and
(why not?) some royal gossip too! Oh! And to top it all, the castle is believed to be haunted!!!
