okay?
Yes ma’am!
Like what I said earlier, a nursery
rhymes is a short rhyming song or
poem that conveys a lesson or
tells an amusing story. They are
aimed at children.

It is well known nursery rhymes

originated in the late 18th or 19th
century. The oldest rhymes are
lullabies, sung in an effort to get a
child to go to sleep.

Nursery rhymes also found all

over the world but generally
calming and peaceful. Often, the
origins of a specific nursery
rhymes are unknown.

Nursery rhymes come from a

number of different sources, from
traditional songs, drinking songs,
plays, historical events, riddles,
proverbs and more .

The nursery rhymes were

collected in 19th century by folk
songs collectors. One of the best
was the nursery rhymes of
England, published in 1842 by
James Orchad Halliwell.

It sorted the rhymes by origin and

inspiration, as well as by topic.
Examples, one could be rhyme
riddles, nature rhymes, and
fireside stories as headings.

Okay class, what do you think

why writers write a rhyme?
Anyone? What do you think? No
one wants to recite?
Okay so they write a rhyme to
entertain and make the young
listeners laugh. Some rhymes are
also based around life
experiences and meant to teach to
a young or children’s for lesson,
for example like learning on how
to treat friends right, listening to
somebodies problem on how to
solve it and importance of going
to school.

Here are some examples of

nursery rhymes;

1. Hey,diddle,diddle.

be traced back to that 1700s.
