trigonometric ratios in real-life through
projectile motions.
Prepared by: Mr. Kim Lambert L. Caubalejo I

I. LEARNING COMPETENCIES
A. Uses trigonometric ratios to solve real-life problems involving right triangles.
II. OBJECTIVES
A. Define angle of elevation and depression.
B. Realize the importance of trigonometric ratios by using it to solve problems involving
angle of elevation and depression.
C. Solve problems involving angle of elevation and depression.
III.CONTENT
A. Subject Matter: Angle of Elevation and Depression
B. References: Ulpina and Tizon. Math Builders 9 Work text. JO-ES Publishing, 2014.
C. Materials: Laptop, drawing tablet, power point presentation, and Google Meet.
D. Valuing: Faith
E. 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking
IV. LEARNING EXPERIENCE
A. Activity
 Synchronous: Flashback Monday!
Review the students regarding the previous discussion, “Trigonometric
Functions” by encouraging them to answer the following guide questions.

Guide Questions
1. What is trigonometry?
2. What are the three basic trigonometric ratios?
3. What are the three reciprocal trigonometric ratios?
B. Analysis
 Synchronous: Picture Analysis
Present the following pictures to the students, then let them analyze it.
Guide Questions:
1. Have you ever wondered how ships travel? Do they have roads to follow like
buses?
2. What about airplanes, what are their guides in travelling?
3. Can you determine the height of a flagpole without actually measuring it?
C. Abstraction
 Synchronous
1. What is angle of elevation and depression?
2. How to solve problems involving angle of elevation and depression using
trigonometric functions (ratios)?
D. Application
 Asynchronous: Trigonometry in Arts.
Materials: Coloring Materials (Water color, oil pastel etc.)
Long Bond Paper
Ruler (For drawing triangles.)
Directions: In this activity the students will learn that the idea of trigonometry
isn’t only applicable in navigating, finding measurements, finding the distance,
solving for the height of a flagpole, and so on, they can also apply it in arts, by
creating an artwork which involves triangles.
Ex.

Guide Questions:
1. What type of triangles are involve in your artwork?
2. What is the meaning of your artwork? What does it show?
3. What did you discover after you finish your artwork in connection to
trigonometry?
V. ASSESSMENT
 Asynchronous: Quiz#3
Solve the following problems.
1. The angle of elevation to the top of a flagpole is 38o from a point 50 meters
from the base of the pole. Find the height of the pole.
2. At a point 100 feet away from the base of a giant redwood tree, a surveyor
measures the angle of elevation to the top of the tree to be 69o. Find the height of
the tree.
3. Beryl Palma is covering the Azkals game at the Rizal Memorial Stadium for
the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup finals. She is onboard a
helicopter. She is positioned at a 10o angle of depression. The helicopter is flying
at an altitude of 350 m. How many kilometers is the helicopter from the point 350
m above the stadium.
4. The angle of depression from the top of a tower to a boulder on the ground is
38°. If the tower is 25 m high, how far from the base of the tower is the boulder?
5. A ladder that is 20 ft. long is leaning against the side of a building. If the angle
formed between the ladder and the ground is 75°, how far is the bottom of the
ladder from the base of the building?
VI. AGREEMENT
 Asynchronous
Define the following:
1. Oblique Triangle
2. Law of sine
3. Law of cosine
