Be Fruitful

Psalm 92:13-15
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be [a]fresh and [b]flourishing,
15 To declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

I. Biblical Definition of Fruitfulness

- Fruitfulness means being productive
- It very important to know what really is fruitfulness in the bible
o This is not what you have achieved.
o Pilay kwarta nato sa bangko
o Pialy atong natigom, napalit, nabatunan.
o Pila ka tanom imong na tigum.
- Biblical definition of productivity is not about what you earn, but what you learn.
- Not what we have, but we give.
- What it meant to be fruitful?
o Colossians 1:10
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good
work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
- 8442 GOOD WORKS
Acts designed specifically to benefit others, which are characteristic of God. He requires and enables
his people to do good, although such is contrary to their sinful human nature. Salvation does not
depend on good works, but leads to them.
- Good work is a product of repentance
o 2 Timothy 2:20-21
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and
clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from
the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, [a]sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for
every good work.
- Jesus did good work on Sabbath
o Matthew 12:9-14
9 Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold,
there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal
on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.
11 Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls
into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value
then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He
said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as
whole as the other. 14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they
might destroy Him.
- Not all good works are the result of being fruitful, but all fruitful have good works.
II. Fruitfulness through an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ
- It means accepting the Lordship of Jesus.
- It means to live a life of righteousness and not merely goodness.
o To be right with God.
o
John 15:4-5
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither
can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without
Me you can do nothing.
III. Fruitfulness through a commitment to God’s word
Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he [b]meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the [c]rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper
Matthew 13:23
23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who
indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
John 15:1-3
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit
He [a]takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are
already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

IV. Fruitfulness through a death to self-interest

John 12:24
24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone;
but if it dies, it produces much [a]grain.
- Although Jesus Christ is speaking here primarily of his own death, the principle remains true for
Christian living.
- When we begun to live according to our self interest, everything become unproductive.

V. Conclusion
- Let us not grow weary in doing good works.
o Galatians 6:9
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not
lose heart.
