    Shaking the Foundations: Understanding Earthquakes and Taking Action

    Earthquakes, one of nature's natural disasters that is unpredictable, that have captured human

    fascination and fear for centuries. These geological phenomena can strike with little warning,

    causing devastation and loss of life. While we cannot prevent earthquakes, but we can lessen the

    risks of injuries during these natural disasters. The main things you have to do when there’s an

    earthquake is duck cover and hold, stay indoors, stay informed and be prepared. This

    campaign aims to emphasize the importance of understanding earthquakes and taking proactive

    measures to safeguard lives and property.

    The reason we need to know what to do during an earthquake is to protect your own safety and

    the safety of those around you. Earthquakes can be extremely dangerous, and the right actions

    can minimize the risk of injury or death. The first immediate action to take when you feel the

    ground shaking is to drop on the ground, take cover under a sturdy piece of furniture (such as a

    table or desk), and hold on to it until the shaking stops. If there is no furniture nearby, protect

    your head and neck with your arms and seek shelter against an interior wall away from windows

    and heavy objects. Earthquakes can happen suddenly and without warning, knowing what to do

    in advance ensures that you can respond quickly and effectively when the ground starts shaking.

    If you are inside a building, stay inside during the earthquake. Do not run outside, as falling

    debris and glass can pose significant dangers. Stay away from windows, mirrors, glass, and

    anything that could shatter or fall. Depending on the severity of the earthquake and the potential

    for aftershocks, you may need to evacuate or seek shelter. Understanding evacuation routes and

    shelter locations are essential for your safety.

    Some people argue that earthquakes are relatively rare events in many regions, making

    preparedness seems unnecessary or excessive. They contend that resources would be better

    allocated to address more frequent problems. While earthquakes may be less frequent compared

    to some other disasters like hurricanes or floods, their potential for destruction is immense. But

    rare events with high consequences should not be dismissed.
