Interview Script

Thank you for participating in this interview for my organizational behaviour class. This interview is being
recording. For privacy reasons and to allow you the opportunity to freely share your experience without
judgement, please do not give the name of the organization you work for or the real names of any
people you work with.

1. Tell me your name, your job title, and how long you’ve been working there.
2. What does your organization do and what do you do in your position?
3. In general, what do you like most about the organization and what challenges have you
experienced?

Let’s start with discussing motivation.

4. Tell me about a time when you felt highly motivated at work. Who was involved, what
happened, and what factors lead to this feeling?
5. Tell me about a time when you felt little or no motivation at work. Who was involved, what
happened, and what factors lead to this feeling?
6. Tell me about a time when you felt empowered at work. Who was involved and what was the
outcome?
7. How does goal-setting and feedback happen at your organization? As a result, do you feel
confident and motivated in your work?

This next section is about the organization’s culture and structure.

8. How would you describe the culture of your organization? What factors cause you to feel this
way?
9. What elements of the culture make you feel welcome?
10. What elements of the culture make you feel not appreciated?
11. Tell me about your team. How would you describe the dynamics between the people in the
team you work with?
12. Do you feel a part of the team? Why or why not? What needs to change?
13. Thinking about a time when there was conflict on your team, what factors lead to this conflict?
How was this resolved?
14. Tell me about the hierarchy of the organization. How easily are decisions made? Are there
multiple levels of management to approve decisions?
15. Including yourself, approximately how many people report to your boss?

17. How would you describe your most memorable leader in your organization? What were their
qualities and behaviours?
18. Tell me about a time when creativity and innovation was encouraged at work?
19. Describe to me a time when there was a poor decision made. What factors lead to this issue?
20. Tell me about a time when your organization was going through change. How did the leaders
behave or communicate the change?

This next section is about ethics.

21. Describe a time where you felt unfairly treated at work or observed someone being treated
unfairly. How did you respond? What was the result?
22. Describe a time when you felt proud of the ethical behaviour within your organization or
ashamed of the lack of ethical behaviour within your organization.
