IGBC Green Homes Rating System
Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Homes is the first rating programme developed in India, exclusively for the residential sector. It is based on accepted energy and environmental principles and strikes a balance between known established practices and emerging concepts. The system is designed to be comprehensive in scope, yet simple in operation. Benefits of Green Homes A Green Home can have tremendous benefits, both tangible and intangible. The
immediate and most tangible benefit is in the reduction in water and operating energy costs right from day one, during the entire life cycle of the building. Tangible benefits Energy savings : 20 - 30 % Water savings : 30 - 50% Intangible benefits Enhanced air quality, Excellent day lighting, Health & wellbeing of the occupants, Conservation of scarce national resources Enhance marketability for the project. Eligibility IGBC Green Homes Rating System is a measurement system designed for rating new residential buildings which include construction categories
such as Individual homes High rise residential apartments, Gated communities Row houses Existing residential buildings which retrofit and redesigned in accordance with the IGBC Green Homes criteria. The project team can evaluate all the possible points to apply under the rating system using a suitable checklist. The project can apply for IGBC Green Homes certification if it can meet all mandatory requirements and achieve the minimum required points. IGBC Green Homes Rating System and other resources The rating system describes in detail goal, compliance options, documentation required and approach and methodologies for each credit under each module.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), was formed in the year 2001 by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The vision of the council is to usher in a green building movement in India and facilitate India to become one of the global leaders in green buildings by 2015.

Green Building Movement in India

Triggering off the green building movement in India is the first Platinum Green Building in India; CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre in Hyderabad that was rated as per the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Rating system. This landmark achievement put India on the global map of green building movement. With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m2). green built-up area in the country in the year 2003, today more than 1053 green buildings ( as on April 2011) with a built-up area of over 648,000,000 sq ft (60,200,000 m2). are being constructed all over India, of which 147 green buildings are certified and fully functional

IGBC-Local Chapters
To facilitate the spread of green building concepts throughout the Country and with a mission to reach out the IGBC vision at the regional levels, IGBC- Local Chapters were launched in Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
Green Buildings Directory

With an aim to provide a single-point reference on green building products and technologies, IGBC has developed a Directory on green building materials & service providers, the first of its kind in India. The Directory will serve as a ready reference to all builders, consultants, architects, contractors etc, and also serve as a single-point reference to those seeking inputs / details on green building material and equipment
