    SOC1153 Social Consciousness: Being Woke to Social Change

    Culminating Activity – Part #2: Fact Finding - Social Justice Resource Review

    Purpose of Assessment:

    To consider social justice and the impact of power and privilege on marginalized persons

    Value: 15%

    Task:

    In this assignment, you will analyze four (4) sources of your choosing and outline the key facts that were
    presented in your sources. The information that you compile will be used to create your essay for Part #3 of
    the Culminating Activity. You will review the content, reflection on its impact, analyse the data, and validation
    of the information. So, it is your brainstorming and research for your essay.

    You will also locate three (3) community support systems/resources that could help your marginalized
    population and analyse their supports for your chosen population or social justice issue. An example might be
    the Homelessness Network of Sudbury is your social justice issue is homelessness.

    Time Commitment:

    This assignment should take you approximately 3 hours to complete.

    How to Complete This Assessment:

    Step 1: Find four (4) source (article, website, social media campaign, documentary, TedTalks, or video) related
    to the marginalized population or social justice issue you used to create Part #1 of the Culminating activity
    (Infographic). Ensure that you have a variety of sources. You are NOT permitted to change your population
    or issue.

    Step 2: Analyze the source by answering the following questions in detail:

    1. What is the main idea of this resource? What is the social justice issue? How has this resource helped
    you understand your issue or population better?
    2. Who do you believe is the intended audience and why?
    3. What is the resource trying to get across? (Minimum of (3) specific examples from the resource:
    quotes, data, observations, expert opinions, illustrations, etc. with your comments and analysis, do you
    agree or disagree and why?)
    4. Does this source influence the way you think about this issue or population? Have you learned
    anything new? Explain.
    5. What ideas and information will you take away from this resource that will assist in better
    understanding the issue or population.

    Step 3: Locate three (3) community resources and briefly outline their main purpose and support to your social
    justice issue or marginalized population. (Look under week #7 – Community Resource List) for a list of supports in Sudbury.

    Step 4: Review your answers to ensure they are detailed and free of any writing or clarity errors and review
    the rubric to ensure you have incorporated all criteria. You may utilize dot points in this assignment. Not
    everything needs to be in complete sentences. This is your fact-finding assignment. The more information you
    compile in this part of the assignment will make the writing of your essay that much easier.

    Step 5: Include an APA resource page. Include intext citation - APA formatted where necessary. This will be
    very useful when you write your final essay.

    Step 6: Upload your assignment to the Moodle dropbox by Monday, July 24, 2023, by 11:59 pm [23:59]
