A. THREE CATEGORIES
1. Schools
Success story of the school’s waste management programmes/activities through a
video clip of 5 minutes.
2. Teachers
Success story of your innovative classroom activity on waste management through a
video clip of 3 minutes.
3. Students
Ideas or solutions on how to reduce waste and improve the environment of school
and/or community
- Grade/year 4-5-6: Hand drawing by an individual student
- Grade/year 9-10-11: A video clip of 3 minutes by a group of students (3-6
students/team)

Note:
• Selected winning entries will be showcased in the SEAMEO SEPS Webinar on Waste
Hero in January 2024.
• Certificates of Recognition will be provided to all winners and shortlisted entries.
• Certificates of Participation will be provided to all entries which meet the minimum
requirements and are relevant to the theme of the Award.
1) CATEGORY: SCHOOLS
What to prepare for • A video clip or multimedia of 3-5 minutes in mp4 format. (No
participation more than 5 minutes)
• Brief information about the school’s waste management
programmmes/activities.
Who can join • All public and private schools at all levels (kindergarten,
primary, secondary and technical & vocational schools,
equivalent to Grade 12) in Southeast Asian countries, namely
Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR,
Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand,
Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.
• No registration fee to participate in this Award.

Judging criteria • Integration with the school plan and implementation: 20%
• Creativity in designing the school programme/activity: 20%
• Impact and effectiveness to learners and communities: 20%
• Adaptable to different contexts, practical, and useful to others:

• Video production: creative and easy to understand: 20%

Guidelines for video • A school who wishes to join this Award should produce a 3-5
production minute video clip in MP4 multimedia format. (No longer than
5 minutes)
• Submission can be by a representative/coordinating teacher
of the participating school.
• One entry per a school
• The narration of the video clip must be in English.
• Sub-titles in English language are optional.
• Video content, including graphics, pictures and music, must
not violate the copyright of any other parties.
• The content of the video should explain the success story of
your school’s Waste Management programme/activity which
may be on-going or completed in 2023.
The video clip should include, but is not limited to, the
following:
Opening scene should include the logo of Waste
Hero. <<Logo is available in the Award
webpage.>>
Very brief information of the school, by including
school logo and school name, city and country
Background of the issues
highlights or innovative ideas of the Waste
Management programme/activity
Results, and impact
Credits/acknowledgements (optional)
How to submit the entry • The school should prepare the following documents in
advance before submitting the entry.
An endorsement letter from the School Principal/Director
to participate in this Award.
A video clip of your school success story on Waste
Management – which can be submitted by a YouTube

• Brief information about your waste management lesson activity
Guidelines for video • An individual teacher who wishes to join this programme should

3) CATEGORY: STUDENTS: Primary School Students (Grade/Year 4-5-6)
Who can join • An individual student with age of 10-13 years old studying in
Grade/Year 4-6
• Southeast Asian nationality, namely Brunei Darussalam,
Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor- Leste.
• Students must belong to a school located in Southeast Asian
countries.
• No registration fee to participate in this Award.
How to submit the • The artwork of students can be submitted by the mentoring
artwork teacher or by the student to the Google Form.
• The mentoring teacher can submit one piece of artwork per
student
• The mentoring teacher can submit artworks from as many
students as they choose following the Google Form.
• All artwork must be scanned in high resolution (300 DPI) and
saved as JPG. Then the digital file should be uploaded in the
Google Submission Form.

How to submit the entry • The student team should prepare the following documents in
advance before submitting the entry.
A certified letter from the mentoring teacher of the team to
participate in this Award.
A video clip of the student – which can be submitted by a
YouTube Link
(Students must upload the video clip to YouTube and copy
the YouTube link for the Google Submission Form)
Brief explanation of the students’ idea for reducing waste
and improving environment.
• The mentoring teacher or the student team can submit the entry
to the following Google Submission Form.
• The contestants acknowledge and guarantee that their work was created solely for this
contest. It does not infringe on copyrights, trademarks, and the rights of privacy, publicity,
or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
• The award of the winners would be withdrawn, if the committee finds the information
provided for the contestant is not true and/or infringe on copyrights, trademarks, and the
right of privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
• If the contestants are using other people's content, make sure it is free-license content or
they have evidence in writing that the owner of the content has given them permission to
use it.
• Concerning that, all of the video clips will be uploaded on the YouTube site.

Therefore, all of the video clips should be defined clearly according to the Creative
Commons license and comply with YouTube’s guidelines, and terms of service to avoid
being taken down or receiving copyright strikes.

• The contestants/producers of the video clips shall allow SEAMEO SEPS to publish the
video clips and/or artworks of students on the SEAMEO SEPS website, YouTube channel,
and other online platforms for non-commercialized purposes.
• SEAMEO SEPS will not be responsible for the cost of licensed fees incurred by the
contestants now or at any time after this contest.
