1 Introduction
This service manual is intended to give you an introduction to carrying out technical
safety inspections (in short TSI) and to carrying out service work on the system compo-
nents of the Barkey Prismacomfort components listed below for the Gambro Prismaflex
haemodialysis system:
• Barkey autocontrol 3XPT
• Barkey autoline XPT 4R Low-flow (internal Ø 4.3 mm)
• Barkey autoline XPT 4R High-flow (internal Ø 6.0 mm)
WARNING
Read this service manual and the instruction manual thoroughly through before you
operate the device or carry out service work.
This should ensure that no incorrect handling can take place which could lead to
faults or damages.
You should also observe the requirements made on the qualifications of service
personnel as stated in Chapter 1.3.
It is imperative that the installation conditions and safety information described in the
service manual and in the instruction manual are observed during service work on the de-
vice. This ensures that the device is not used improperly such that patients and users of
the device could be endangered, and prevents damage to the device.
WARNING
Medical electrical devices are subject to particular precautionary measures with re-
gard to EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). Please ensure that the device is in-
stalled and operated in accordance with the EMC guidelines contained in this in-
struction manual.
WARNING
The testing equipment set for the Barkey Prismacomfort and the components con-
tained within are subject to natural ageing. In order to guarantee correct functioning
of the testing equipment set, the set must undergo an annual inspection by the
manufacturer. As soon as the time for inspecting the testing equipment set has been
reached, you will be automatically reminded of the necessary annual inspection as
soon as you plug adapter 1 or adapter 2 into the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT via the
display.

garding this service manual or the instruction manual.
You will find the following symbol in instructions about the use and maintenance of the

read through before operating the device.
1.6.1 Safety information sticker for Barkey autoline XPT 4R heating device
A sticker is attached to the front panel of the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT containing printed
symbols which show which safety information must be observed during use of the Barkey
autoline XPT 4R, or how the Barkey autoline XPT 4R may not be used.
WARNING
If instructions contained in the service manual are not observed, hazards can occur
to patients, the user of the device or the device itself.
The service manual and instruction manual must be read through thoroughly before
using the device.
Do not kink, cover, warm or cool the heating device! Do not cover the heating de-
vice with cloth or bandage material, and do not run it below bedcovers or warm air
blankets. Do not subject it to direct sunlight or direct heating. Only run the heating
device uncovered through air. Do not run into or through incubators!
Do not shorten or damage the heating device.
2 Safety information
The green light (LED) shows that the device has been switched on.
Yellow lights 1 and 2 show that the heating device has been connected
to channel 1 or channel 2.
NOTE
A prerequisite for the implementation of technical safety inspections (TSI) is pos-
session of the controller software version: sv 1.6x or above (x stands for the lan-
guage version).
If the controller has an older software version than that stated above, please contact
our service department immediately.
This menu is not available to normal users, and can only be used after entering a special
keystroke combination while switching the Barkey autocontrol 3 XPT device on.
► Ensure that the controller is properly fixed.
► Press the left-hand and right-hand selection buttons below the display simultaneously.
► Hold these buttons pressed down, and switch the controller on with the other hand.
► Hold both buttons pressed down until the following screen is displayed (approx.10
seconds):

The menu can now be accessed, and will
now be referred to as the "service menu"
and described in more detail.
The three buttons beneath the display are allocated functions which can be carried out in
the bottom display line. If you use the left-hand select button, you can select the individ-
ual menu commands successively. Use the OK button in the middle to select the menu
commands you highlighted, and these will then be displayed. Use the left-hand select
button to switch over while using the "next" and "back" menu commands.
You can quit the service menu using the right-hand end button. After this button has been
pressed, you can use the "select the language"
(see Chapter 3.13) button to return to the main screen for normal users.
The functions for these three buttons change depending on the menu command selected
and are described for the individual selections below.

To adjust, use the left-hand – button to reduce or the right-hand + button to increase the
relevant value. After the value has been correctly set, acknowledge this by pressing the
centre OK button, and the adjusted value will stop flashing.
After all figures have been set, including acknowledgement, the selected time stops
flashing in the display. You can only quit the menu command and release the time set-
tings into the integrated clock by pressing the
confirmation button.
It is often helpful to set a time which will be correct slightly later than the time at which
the setting is carried out. This enables exact synchronisation between the integrated clock
and a time reference.
NOTE
If an incorrect time is entered, the restricted number of buttons does not allow this
process to be broken off. If this is the case, you must complete entering the incor-
rect value and then use the "set time" menu command to enter the correct entry
once again.

Values are displayed to an accuracy of 0.01 °C. If no heating devices or temperature sen-
sors are connected, the following display is shown for this measurement channel (--,--
°C).
The abbreviations shown are allocated as follows:

The measured temperature values displayed using this menu command are first used for
checking the measurement system within the autocontrol 3 XPT controller, and secondly
for checking the temperatures displayed by any heating devices or external temperature
sensors connected.
Now press the centre back button to return to menu screen 2.
NOTE
Heating devices connected to the Barkey autocontrol 3 XPT controller, or which
are connected using the “temp. inspection“ temperature inspection are automati-
cally allocated their maximum permissible setpoint. The reason for this is to warm
the heating devices up to the maximum operating temperature for temperature
checks during technical safety inspections (TSI).
3.9 Calibrating the autocontrol 3XPT “temp.calibration ac“
The display shows a request to plug in the reference adapter. In this case, the please plug
in the reference adapter! display text blinks.
The autocontrol is calibrated in 9 steps. The menu guides the user through the individual
steps.
The first three steps calibrate channel 1 (left-hand socket):

Steps 7 to 9 calibrate the measurement channels for room temperature and the external
sensor. To do this, adapter 4 (external temperature) with a 3-pole plug is plugged into the
socket on the underside of the controller. Adapter 1 (temperature reference) is plugged
into the relevant reference resistance in the coupling on adapter 4:

The data is only accepted after the process has run through completely. The calibration
process can be broken off at any time by switching the device off. If this is the case, the
old calibration values will be retained.

Now you have to press the start button. The heating device is continually heated until the
overtemperature threshold has been reached.

After the overtemperature has been checked, allow the heating device to cool down to
room temperature before further measurements are carried out.
NOTE
If no heating device is connected, this function cannot be carried out.
3.11 Setting the autocontrol 3XPT calibration date “calibration date ac“

3.12 Setting the heating device calibration date "calibration date hd"

In order for the information to be saved correctly in the heating device, you must
use Adapter 3 (programming) between the controller and the heating device.

WARNING
All components in the test equipment set must be checked for damage before being
used. Damaged components may not be used, and must be replaced.
WARNING
The testing equipment set and the components contained within are subject to natu-
ral ageing. In order to guarantee correct functioning of the testing equipment set,
the set must undergo an annual inspection by the manufacturer. As soon as the time
for inspecting the testing equipment set has been reached, you will be automatically
reminded of the necessary annual inspection as soon as you plug adapter 1 or
adapter 2 into the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT via the display.

troller one after the other.

tension through the cable to the connected heating device, does not result in dam-
age to the adapter.

The temperature sensors are connected using a 2-pole connector plug. Ensure that the po-
larity is correct when connecting the temperature sensors. For this reason, the plugs have
been fitted with two reverse polarity protected contacts of different widths.
The digital thermometer carries out a self-test when switched on. The temperature unit is
displayed during the self-test, as well as other information. Ensure that this is displayed as
"°C". If “°F“ is displayed here, the configuration must be changed. Otherwise, the device
configuration may not be changed.
Please also see the digital thermometer operating manual.
WARNING
Ensure that you never use the offset and gradient correction function. If you carry
out any changes here, the thermometer will no longer display the correct tempera-
tures.
There are temperature sensors with two different diameters ( Ø 5 mm and Ø 7 mm) for the
various heating devices. The relevant chapter describing the technical safety inspections
for the heating devices give information about which sensors can be used for which heat-
ing device.
► After the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT has been switched on, the green LED (power)
must illuminate and the start screen must be displayed.
► The red LED (error) and both yellow LEDs (1+ 2) must flash twice shortly after being
switched on.
► An acoustic signal must sound simultaneously with the flashing LEDs.
► Any two heating devices (autotherm, autoline, paddytherm, ...) can be connected to
both channels. If only one heating device is present, this must be connected to both
channels one after the other. The temperature will be displayed after approximately 5
seconds. The temperatures should rise rapidly about 15 seconds later.
5.1.7 Comments

5.1.8 TSI has been passed
If all the points for the TSI listed above were completed positively, then the TSI inspec-
tion has been passed.

If the TSI test has been passed, the calibration date must be set. This will ensure that the
user is reminded of the TSI being due next year.
► Select the "calibration date ac" menu command in the "service menu".
The date of the last TSI inspection is shown in the upper part of the display. The cur-
rent date should be displayed below this. If this is not the case, the date must be reset
first (see chapter 3.6 ).
► If the current date is correctly displayed in the “calibration date ac“ menu command,
you must set the calibration date with the set button.
► The inspection label with the date of the next inspection must be fixed to the Barkey
autocontrol 3XPT. The devices provided with an area for this between the ventilation
openings on the underneath. The label should be fixed so that the arrow is pointing to
the month in which the inspection is due.
The name and address of the person carrying out the test must be stated on the inspection
log (company stamp if necessary).
Correct implementation of the TSI inspection must be confirmed in the inspection log
with statement of name, date and signature.
► The Barkey autoline XPT 4R to be checked must first undergo a visual inspection.
The visual inspection must include all points stated in the inspection log in point 1.
5.2.2 Temperature check
Temperature inspections must be carried out at a room temperature of 22°C ± 1°C.
The heating device should not be subjected to direct sunshine or draughts, or other condi-
tions affecting measurement, during measurement activities.
The temperature inspection can take place simultaneously using one heating device con-
nected to each channel.
► Select the "temp inspection" menu command
in the "service menu". Measured temperature
values are displayed with an accuracy of 0.01
°C.
► The Barkey autoline XPT 4R heating device
must be fixed to the autoline bracket in its cor-
rect position in accordance with the operating
manual.
- The head of the Barkey autoline XPT 4R
is hung into the autoline bracket.
- The end of the Barkey autoline XPT 4R is
then pressed into the groove on the auto-
control bracket.
5.2.5 Comments

If all the points for the TSI listed above were completed positively, then the TSI inspec-
tion has been passed.
5.2.7 Setting the calibration date
If the TSI test has been passed, the heating device calibration date must be set. This will
ensure that the user is reminded of the TSI being due next year.
► Connect adapter 3 (programming) to channel 1 on the controller part. The heating de-
vice is then connected to the adapter.
► Select the "calibration date hd" menu command in the "service menu".
The date of the last TSI inspection is shown in the upper part of the display. The cur-
rent date should be displayed below this. If this is not the case, the date must be reset
first (see chapter 3.6 ).
► If the current date is correctly displayed in the “calibration date hd“ menu com-
mand, you must set the calibration date with the set button.
The name and address of the person carrying out the test must be stated on the inspection
log (company stamp if necessary).

WARNING
Remove mains plug before opening the housing.
► Having done this, remove the four screws at the rear of the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT
using a TORX screwdriver size TX10.
► The housing shells can then be opened wide enough so that the 20-pole post connec-
tor can be carefully removed.
► The 20-pole phono connector must be plugged in again before reassembling the
housing.
► When housing shells are fitted together again, ensure that no cables are being crushed.
► Retighten the four screws again to hand tight.
6.3 Removing and refitting the "power section" PCB
CAUTION
Settings for mains voltage (115 V~ / 230 V~) are carried out using the "power sec-
tion" PCB.
It is imperative to ensure that the settings are correct before refitting new PCBs.
See Chapter 6.5
Removal:
► Unsolder the connection cables for heating from channels 1 and 2.
► The "power section" PCB has a cover over its mains supply side. This touch protec-
tion must be removed first. To do this, press the spigots on the spacer bolts lightly to-
gether with pliers. The PCB touch protection can now be removed.
► Now remove the 4 screws with a TORX screwdriver of size TX10. The power section
PCB can now be raised.
► After you have unsoldered the cables to the ventilator, the power section PCB can be
folded upwards.
► The transformer and power cable connections can now be unsoldered.
Refitting:
► Refitting takes place in reverse order to removal.
► When reassembling, ensure that no cables are being crushed.

► Push the power cable another three times through the ferrite (total of 4 windings). Fix
the windings to the ferrite with a cable clamp. The cable end is now 15 cm long.

Do not overtighten, otherwise the
cable insulation will be damaged.

► After the power cable has been replaced, refit the power section PCB and screw the
housing back together.

CAUTION
The mains voltage setting must match the information given on the nameplate.
NOTE
The Barkey autocontrol 3XPT can be operated using power frequencies of 50 Hz
and 60 Hz. No settings are necessary.
Fuses F100 and F101 are mains fuses. The rated values for these fuses are dependent on
the main voltage.
Fuse F110 protects the power section protective low voltage.
Fuse F120 protects the controller protective low voltage.
WARNING
Only fuses with German VDE and UL approval may be used.
NOTE
Old batteries must not be disposed of in domestic waste. Please take old batteries
back to the correct collection points or send them back to the manufacturer.
Bevelled corner
The microcontroller has been placed in the right position on the IC pedestal. It may only
be pressed into the pedestal when it is straight and centrally positioned from all sides.
After the microcontroller has been replaced, the first controller start-up must take place by
calling up the "service menu". This can be quit directly by pressing the end button.
WARNING
Before cleaning, disconnect the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT from the mains supply
by switching off the device with the power switch and removing the plug from the
socket.
Never apply cleaning fluid or disinfectants directly to the device. Always moisten a
cloth and clean the devices using this cloth.
Never apply cleaning agents to the ventilation openings on the controller!
Never use cleaning cloths to close up the controller ventilation openings.
Never use steam (i.e. in autoclaves) hot air or thermo-chemical cleaning solutions
to disinfect the controller device and the heating device.
You should use standard commercial preparations based on alcohol without oxygen-
releasing components (with sodium hydrochloride with 1.4% bleach solution or aldehyde
content < 0.2%) as a disinfectant.
► If possible, you should use water-soap solution to clean the Barkey autocontrol 3XPT.
► Dry the surfaces and use a surface disinfectant. Observe the acting time stated by the
disinfectant manufacturer.
► After allowing the disinfectant to act, dry the device off with disposable tissues.
WARNING
You should never use any cleaning or decontamination processes except those rec-
ommended by the manufacturer without first consulting the manufacturer to see
whether the proposed processes will damage the device.
In addition to these recommendations, we refer you to the hygiene measures and
regulations set by your company.
Due to the fact that Barkey GmbH & Co. KG has absolutely no control over the quality of
maintenance work which is not carried out by Barkey personnel, and that Barkey GmbH
& Co. KG cannot estimate what effects such service and repair works will have on the
device and its serviceability, Barkey GmbH & Co. KG accepts absolutely no responsibil-
ity for material damages, injuries or consequential damages which result from use of the
device if it is not been repaired or maintained by Barkey service personnel.
Barkey GmbH & Co. KG categorically declines all responsibility whatsoever for indirect
damages or consequential damages of any type, and restricts its liabilities exclusively to
repair or replacement of the device.
Barkey GmbH & Co. KG grants this warranty in place of contractually or legally required
warranties on this product, including other statutory guarantees of marketability or suit-
ability for a particular use, and accepts no other liabilities.
The manufacturer accepts absolutely no responsibility or liability for the use of accessory
parts other than those listed in this instruction manual, for the use of non-original compo-
nents, and for the use/fitting which does not comply with the instruction manual accom-
panying these components. The use of other components and accessories than those listed
in the instruction manual leads to a reduction of the manufacturer's warranty for the de-
vice.
Barkey GmbH & Co. KG is only responsible for the effects on the devices safety, reli-
ability and performance if
• extensions, resetting, alterations or repairs are carried out by persons authorised by
the company and
• technical safety inspections have been demonstrably carried out by suitable specialist
personnel at the prescribed intervals and
• electrical installation has been carried out in accordance with German VDE stipula-
tions or similar and
• the device has been used in accordance with this operating manual and
• examinations for electrical safety have demonstrably been carried out in accordance
with the applicable regulations at the prescribed intervals.
