ACTIVITY 1- TO VERIFY ANGLE SUM PROPERTY OF TRIANGLE

OBJECTIVE

To verify that the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180°.

Materials Required

1. Geometry box

2. Scissors

3. Adhesive

4. Drawing sheet

OBJECTIVE

To verify that the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180°.

Prerequisite Knowledge

1. Knowledge of straight angle

2. Concept of triangle and its properties

Theory

Some basic properties of triangles are given below:

1. The sum of all the angles of a triangle is always 180°.

2. Angles opposite to equal sides of a triangle are equal.

3. The sides opposite to equal angles in a triangle are equal.

4. In a triangle, the angle opposite to longer side is larger and vice-versa.

5. The sum of two sides of a triangle is greater than the third side.

6. The exterior opposite angle in a triangle is equal to sum of opposite interior angles.

Procedure

1. Take any triangle (acute, obtuse, right angle), let us take an acute-angled
triangle.
2. Mark the angles as x°, y°, and z° respectively.
3. Cut all three angles of the triangle.
4. Now draw a straight line on a sheet.
5. As we know that measure of a semi-circle is 180 degrees and hence the sum
of angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.

ACTIVITY 2 – SURFACE AREA AND VOLUME

Objective
To get the formula for the volume of a right circular cone experimentally.

Materials Required
One cone and one cylinder having the same height and base radius, sand.

Procedure

1. Fill the cone with sand.

2. Pour the sand from the cone to the cylinder.

3. Fill the cone with sand again and pour to the cylinder.

4. Repeat the same process until the cylinder fills completely with sand.

Observation and Result

Students will observe that the cylinder gets filled after pouring the sand three times from cone.

Volume of cone =3 Volume of cylinder =3π2h

Learning Outcome
Through this experiment, students will learn the relationship between the volume of a cone and a
cylinder.
