Question 1: (Marks 25%)
a) Draw the basic 2-pole representation of the DC shunt machine with
interpoles. (5° Marks)
b) The two-axis model of a rotating electrical machine has one coil on d-
axis as DS, and two coils on q-axis as QS and QR. Write the Voltage and
Torque equations for the Kron's primitive machine in matrix form. What
observations are made from the impedance matrix and Torque equation
of this machine?
Question 2: (Marks 25%)
a) Derive the transformations for currents between a rotating balanced 2-
phase (a, ) winding and a pseudo-stationary two phase (d, q) winding.
Assume equal turns on ail coils. Show that the transpose of current
transformation matrix is equal to its inverse. (5 Marks)

b) A3-Ph Induction motor has the following por phase paramotors referred
to stator:
Stator resistance -- 0.30 ohm
Rotor resistance ~- 0.45 ohm
Stator & Rotor leakage roactance —- 2.1 ohm each
Magnetizing reactance --- 30.00 ohm
Find out the parameters of an equivalent 2-ph induction motor if Its per
phase turns are :

Question 3: (Marks 25%)
a) Starting with the voltage equations of Kron's primitive machine, show
how to determine the steady-state voltage and the equivalont circuit of a
3-phase induction motor. (10 Marks)

and reactance per phase are 0.25 ohm and 1.8 ohm respectively

a) & separately excited DC generator running at 4500/7 rpm has the
following parameters: r; = 809, Li = 40H, Mg = 0.8H, r, = 0.10, L, = 0.03H.
i. Find the armature induced voltage as a function of time and
sketch it if a constant voltage of 160 V is suddenly improssed
across the field terminals. (5 Marks)
fi, Sketch the rise of armature current in part (i) if the armature
terminals are initially short circuited, (5 Marks)
4) Derive, under steady-state conditions, the oxpressions for armature
terminal voltage and armature current of a separately oxcited de
generator with displaced brushes ly an anglo «. (7% Marks)
