Online platforms have transformed the access of information and
communication into greater heights. They provide oppurtunities for any person to
tell share and even sell his or her ideas and stories to the world in one click.

DISCUSSION: ONLINE CREATION TOOLS,


PLATFORMS, AND APPLICATIONS FOR ICT
DEVELOPMENT

Expertise in your professional track will be significantly enhanced if you


know how to develop ICT content. Today in the digital age, most of the tasks in the
different fields or jobs involve the function if application and platforms through the
internet. Having knowledge and skills in using and utilizing platforms and
applications into one’s field of specialization is great advantage to those who do
not.

But what are platforms? How these differ from application? How will these
help you develop ICT content? What are the existing platforms and application that
are available online that can help you create ICT content for specific purpose.

Online Creation Tools and Application


Online creation tools and applications have blurry distinction in the definition.
An application is usually understood to be larger, more complex piece of software,
whereas tool typically is designed for a specific use case. The distinction is blurry,
though some tools are very versatile and powerful while some applications are
comparatively simple and with limited versatility.
But one thing is for sure, both online creation tools and applications are
computer programs that utilize web browsers and web technology to perform tasks
over the internet. They are like word processor or paint application in your
computers, but this time, they are operating in the internet.
There are lots of existing online tools and applications in the world wide web,
form online forms, shopping carts, word processor, spreadsheets, video and photo
editing, fie conversion, file scanning and email programs such as Gmail, Yahoo,
and AQL.

There are online tools and applications currently included but not limited to:

A. Audio These are tools allows users to create, edit, trim, remix
and publish kinds of music and sounds.

B. Infographics These are tools and applications give users the chance to
create a creative and stunning infographics.

and graphics on their presentations into the minds of
their target audience.

E. Memes The internet is full of colorful images and videos because
audiences love them and sharing them. Memes get
copied and spread rapidly. These applications and tools
make meme creation easier.
Examples:

Online Offices These are applications and tools are word processor,
spreadsheets, slides and survey forms that are work in
cyber space.
Examples:
a. Google doc, sheets, slides
b. Google forms
c. Microsoft office 365
d. Microsoft Forms

ONLINE PLATFORMS
There are some online applications and tools that are integrated within one
place. For example, Facebook messenger is a communication tool provided by
Facebook that makes calling and texting service possible for its users. Aside from
Facebook messenger, there are also other tools and applications in Facebook that
cater different needs and services of its audience, such as photo organizing, poll
creation, video streaming and many more. All these tools and applications have
been systematically and strategically put into one place which is Facebook.
Facebook is an example of online platforms. Therefore we can say that Online
Platforms combine all tools into one place and system for efficient process and
faster accomplishment of different task. They are different form of applications and
tools in the sense that the only get one part of the job.

For a more straight forward illustration, online platforms can be compared to a
car, and its primary purpose is to travel to a destination. In comparison, the
applications and tools can be viewed as the tires moving, steering wheel for
directing, and exhaust for emitting smoke from combustions. These tools and
applications are working together on one platform to serve a purpose.
Online platforms can be defined as digital services that enable collaboration
between two or more different but independent groups of user’s who interact
through the internet. Online platform allows users to develop ICT content to
connect, communicate, and collaborate with other users in the online world. For
example, Facebook is one of the most popular online platforms that is not only used
for finding friends or relatives but also has evolved as a place for marketing
business. Many business minded people have taken the interactions happening in
Facebook advantage for the promotion of their products and services for free.

EXISTING ONLINE PLATFORMS


Online platforms are categorized according to the services they provide. Currently,
the categories of online platform are listed below but not limited to the following:

Presentation and These are online platforms that let you showcase and share
Visualization presentation, infographics and videos with other people.

c. Slide Shares
Cloud Computing This type of platforms allows you to upload, download,
organize, and store files on the online storage, which is
called cloud instead of using offline storage like computer
desktop. Here, users can share and even collaborate files
with others.

c. One Drive
Social Media These are interactive online technologies that enable the
creation or sharing of information, ideas, career, interests,
and other firms of expression through virtual communities
and networks.

Mapping This online platform provides detailed information about
geographical regions and sites around the world. It allows
embedding of maps into proprietary sites.

c. Wikimedia
File Management This online platform allows you to convert and manage
files lie images, videos, documents, audio, and more to
other formats without downloading a software tool.
Examples:
a. Zamsar
b. Word2pdf
c. Cloud Convert
Web Page Creation It is an online platforms that lets you build a web page that
includes colors, text, images, and often contains links to
media such as video and audio.
Examples:
a. WordPress
b. Wix
c. Weebly

NATURE AND PURPOSE OF ONLINE PALTFORMS AND


APPLICATIONS
In the later part of 20th century, creating online platforms like a webpage or a
website had required skillful mind regarding computer programming. Only those
who possessed superior knowledge on computer codes were the ones, who could
create a web page or web site, and yet their creations were not the exciting and
convincing compared to what we have today.
At present, it is very much convenient to create textual and visual part in
creating ICT contents. Even a high school learner with necessary skills, even
without superior knowledge on computer programming can develop and construct
creative ICT contents that are fun and interactive for users. Moreover, web pages or
websites have evolved into tools and platforms useful for discovery,
communication, creation and co-creation.
Another good point for online application and platforms is their convenience.
Since they are online, they are available to users anytime and anywhere as long as
they are connected to the internet.
They are less hassle and easy to use compared to desktop applications since
they do not require installations on computer since they are web-based. They

consume almost no storage in your computer since most of your creation will be
saved n clouds.

WHICH ONLINE PLATFORMS AND APPLICATIONS WILL YOU


CHOOSE?
Always remember that there is no existing superior online platforms and
applications. Its productivity and efficiency are dependent on the purpose as well as
the knowledge and skills id the users. To help you decide which online platforms
and application are suited for you, you should consider the following:
a. Address Specific Purpose: I choosing online platforms and application make
sure that they have features that are fitted to your needs. They should help you
create content that you wanted to develop.
b. Easy to Use: Good platforms and applications must have friendly interface. It
means that you can easily understand, manipulate and use its different
features.
c. Collaborative Features: As much as possible, choose platforms and
applications that promote collaboration. Aside from the fact that collaboration
makes task easier and faster to accomplish, better content will be developed if
it is thought and worked on by more than one brain.
d. Browser Support: You need to ensure that a variety of browsers supports
your chosen online platforms and applications.
e. Content Security: any platforms and applications must guarantee a security
of user’s data – for instance, features of content privacy or the ability to delete
content.

SUMMARY
Online platforms as of today’s generation have rapidly growing. This
platform may help us in our career, studies or even in our personal living. Using
those platforms and applications may help us but as a student and educator we must
also know the limitations of using this platform. Some of us are now totally
depending on the different online platform and applications especially students of
today’s generation. Modernization leads to creation of something new that navigate
people to adapt and interact with. One good thing about this platforms and
application is using it moderation and useful manner.
