Respected Sir/Madam,
LGS Johar Town Senior Boys proudly present JT LUMINA 5.0 (Apollo Edition), to be
held physically from 1st to the 3rd of September 2023.
Like previous editions, Lumina this year will seek to unlock and nurture the talents
of students in the fields of science. Due to the competitiveness in the current time
period, many young, aspiring teenagers find it extremely difficult to demonstrate
their talents and pursue their passions in the vast expanses of science, however
Lumina provides them a platform where they can tap their potential in whatever
they feel inclined towards.
At Lumina this year we seek to remove all boundaries in order to allow delegates to
showcase their knowledge to unsurpassable degrees, with imagination and
creativity reigning supreme. We hope to create an aura of competition where every
participant feels captivated and interested to compete to the utmost of their
capability
Regards,
LUMINA 5.0 Executive council.

ABOUT LUMINA 5.0
APOLLO EDITION:
In order to differentiate JT LUMINA from its past editions and for the delegates to
have an unsurpassed and unique experience this year our team has decided to
inculcate many new aspects to this event, going above and beyond the experience
of a simple science olympiad. With brand new categories, activities and unique
themes this will most definitely be the most memorable and intellectual uplifting
event for delegates from all institutions.
This edition aims to be a special edition with a space and astronomy theme for
categories. For the aforesaid purpose this time the event will be a special Apollo
Edition. This means that each of the 3 categories at LUMINA 5.0 will contribute to
human endeavors in space in unique ways.
All of the best work produced in these categories will then be collectively presented
in an ‘Apollo session’ and teams whose works are presented will also get a chance
to display their ideas. The session will also include a panel talk with experts and
professionals in astronomy related fields from Pakistan and abroad. Attending
delegates will also be given certificates for participating in the session. We will also
be setting up an observatory before the session for lunar and planetary sightings.
With this theme, we wish to awaken the spirit of space exploration within the
highschool youth, as space exploration is a scientific field that is highly under
developed in Pakistan. This will also allow all the participants to be united on a
single theme, making the event more exciting and will serve as a way of motivation
for our esteemed delegates.
It is also important to note that this theme in no way will restrict the event to only
have space related categories and content and only major subevents in each
category will have space related rounds i.e the entire subevent will not have a space
theme but will each have 1 individual round focusing on the theme.
Moreover, this year at LUMINA 5.0 Apollo edition, we wish to inculcate a wider and
more diverse intellectual spectrum in our event, which will allow LUMINA 5.0 to
host students with all sorts of expertise including business, public speaking and
global affairs alongside science and technology. This will be made possible through
a brand new category at LUMINA i.e Empresson, and a Science based MUN.
Empresson will solely inculcate the wing of economics, business and commerce
blended in with technology while Scimun will be an excellent avenue for delegates
to showcase their public speaking skills.
DETAILS OF CATEGORIES AND SUBEVENTS:
VESTIGIUM
1. Lorentz Factor
Named after one of the most important physicists in the history of mankind,
sir Hendrik Lorentz, this category aims to continue his legacy. This would be
the compulsory category of Vestigium for a good reason as it will cover all
major fields related to science and provide a thrilling experience for the
delegates. The knowledge of the delegates and the ability to implement it
into the practical world would be tested through different tasks like
designing a spaceship, building an atmospheric powered car and building a
water bottle rocket. All these experiments would help strengthen the main
theme of this event ,which is space, into the minds of the delegates.
2. Mechaventure
As the name suggests, this category in Lumina would be about all kinds of
tech related stuff. When mechatronics and adventure coincide, they create a
wonderful duo which this category was named after. This year,
Mechaventure will take a deep dive into the field of robotics, which plays and
will continue to play a critical role in mankind's future as it is the origin of all
new inventions and enables us to push the limits of what we believe is
possible. In this category delegates will partake in designing, building and
testing robots which will assist humankind in their endeavors in space, and
also have a round of exciting ‘robot soccer’ for the first time in Lumina’s
3. The Fleming Factor
4. Sci-Mun
With the fast paced scientific evolution of our world, the international
approach towards crises has also evolved. There are now scientifically
innovative solutions being used to tackle the world’s confusing problems.
This year at the JT LUMINA 5.0 we will try to simulate a fictional futuristic
international committee with a fictional global crisis in which teams would
have to find a solution by presenting futuristic inventions as solutions.
ENIGMA:
A category full of adventure and fun. The delegates would enjoy the
sub-events and simultaneously be challenged because of many different
hurdles.
1. Whodunnit
We have another case on our hands Watson and we need your help to
find the culprit.
By investigating the crime scene and interrogating the suspects, the
delegates would be tasked to form a logical case report which would help us
find the real identity of the murderer. This sub-category would test the
deduction skills of the participants as well as their ability to hypothesize
after observing the limited information. Another thing to look forward to is
the "among us" Round in which delegates would take part in an exciting
game.
2. Eulerian's Enclave
Maths is something which is all around us. It is like a superpower from which
we can calculate any value with the right method. This year, in Eulerian's
enclave we would challenge the delegates' capability to deal with
mathematical problems and answer them as quickly as possible. It is a
chance for delegates to hone and showcase their mathematical prowess,
dedication, zeal, persistence, teamwork and robust analytical skills which will
pave the path to victory.
3. Fanaticus
Fanaticus remains our most intriguing sub-category this year. When all
fandoms, marvel, DC, anime, pop culture etc are stirred in a pot, a wonderful
and wicked concoction is made which we call Fanaticus. The fans of all
fandoms would be tested on their memories by answering mcq's and they
would then move on to delve into their imaginations themselves as they
would have to reenact fight scenes and create their own world where even
Goku and Superman can meet.
4. Gamecraft
For many, gaming is more than just a passion. It is a skill which only a few
can master in little time. In this category, delegates will face each other in
various types of games which would include strategy, sports, marksmanship
etc. Only one team with mastery in all genres will emerge victorious at the
end.
EMPRESSON:
1. Carbonopoly
3. Shark Tank
This category will be one of the flagship business categories of LUMINA 5.0,
combining business strategies with futuristic extraterrestrial space
economies, and market networks. This category will serve as a simulation of
the Famous TV show ‘Shark Tank’. Young entrepreneurs will not only be
given a chance to pitch their own creative and sustainable business models
but also implement them by advertising their products with physical stalls.
This category will surely provide young business enthusiasts with experience
of launching their own businesses and a nourishing entrepreneur’s mind will
be instilled in them allowing them to use the skills in practical life as well.
4. Crypto Mania
This year at LUMINA 5.0, delegates of all ages and skills will get
fully validated through our new award policy. Alongside our
standard awards, we will be granting small delegation awards for
o level students only, who are at a disadvantage competing with
A level students. Besides best delegation awards given to schools,
a best team award will also be given to give recognition to the
best individual team at the event. Lastly all 3 of the categories i.e
Empresson (business), Vestigium (Sciences) and Enigma
(mathematics and logic), will have awards to grant recognition to
teams who have shown an outstanding performance in those
specific categories and fields.
