1. SCOPE
The Purpose of this method statement is to describe the methodology for installation of
Audio Intercom system.
To ensure that all the concerned persons are familiarized with the sequence of activities,
utilizations of resources, documents & drawings involved, maintaining & recording
documents, data to meet the project specification and contractual obligations.
2. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to define stepwise procedure for installation of
Audio Intercom system in conjunction with the applicable project specifications, approved
shop drawings, applicable manufacturer’s recommendations, standard construction
practices and relevant approved material submittal.

5. RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1 Project Manager – Overall responsibility of the Project execution, quality and safety. Identify
and organize the resources required to carry out the work in accordance with approved
construction program and specifications.
5.2 Project Engineer – Responsible for the drawings and submissions approvals and allocation
of resources to execute the work at site for the site engineer. He should make sure the quality
of materials conforms to the required standards and meets consultant requirements. He
should clear all the technical queries and problems at site rising by site engineer coordinating
with main contractor. Establish and implement proper productivity monitoring system to ensure
savings on labor cost and on time completion of project. Project Engineer will report to the
Project Manager.
5.3 Site Engineer - Responsible for the day to day job execution on site and allocation of
resources to work areas on site. Site Engineer will report to Project Engineer. Ensure that work
executed in accordance with approved specifications, agreed procedures and method
statement. Monitoring of all subcontractor’s work closely to ensure the quality and completion
on time. Initiate inspections for installations in coordination with QA/QC Engineer. He should
ensure and will have overall responsibility for Quality, Health and Safety at site.
5.4 Supervisor / Foreman – Responsible for the day to day job on site which includes
supervising skilled / semiskilled operatives, or any other staff assigned to do this work. He will
be responsible for safety of their operatives and quality of works.
5.5 QA/QC Engineer – Overseeing all the quality requirements and quality control measures for
the project in coordination with Project Manager /PE/ Site Engineer.
5.6 HSE Officer – Will be responsible for health and safety aspects on site as per Main
Contractor’s and Local Safety Regulations.
7. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
7.1 GENERAL
7.1.1 This method statement shall be read in conjunction with the documents listed above in
Section 4, where applicable.
7.1.2 On receipt of the material at site, Project Engineer/Site Engineer & QAQC Engineer shall
inspect the material in accordance with Approved Material Submission, specification and
Delivery Note and recorded in the MIR form and offered for consultant approval as
required.
7.1.3 Any non-conforming materials must be labelled by storekeeper and returned to quarantine
area in accordance with procedure.
7.1.4 Once completing the material inspection with consultant, materials shall be stored
accordingly for easy retrieval.
7.1.5 Manufacturer’s instructions for storage shall be followed as applicable.
7.1.6 Materials shall be protected from dust & debris and properly stored & covered.
7.2 PREINSTALLATION CHECK
7.2.1 The materials received at site shall be verified as per the approved Material Submittal,
inspected, and stored in the designated area.
7.2.2 Ensure the latest approved drawings / Co-ordination drawings / documents are available at
site.
7.2.3 Ensure that all the materials are inspected upon the delivery to the site by project
engineer / Quality engineer.
7.2.4 Check whether the area is clear / civil clearance available for installation.
7.2.5 Ensure the proper handling equipment / Tools are available at site to proceed for
installation.
7.2.6 Checks the PPE, accessibility to the site or extra safety required and inform the safety in
charge for further procedures.

7.2.7 The QA/QC inspector will make prior inspection to ensure the compliance of the work as
per the project requirements.

- The apartment Telephones can also call the Guard Unit & also open the door lock
connected to the Intercom Panels by using the door lock button provided on the apartment
telephones.
- The Guard Unit can establish an inter-communication between any two apartment
Telephones.
- The door latch can also be opened by entering a secret code on the panel keypad.
- Proper termination of cables with labeling for all the Intercom equipment’s installed in the
site which includes the Intercom Entrance Panel, Guard Unit, Central Unit, Switching Unit,
Power Supply, Door Latch, Decoders and Apartment Telephones.
- 12Vdc power supply connections to the equipment’s are done with the correct polarity for
the +ve and –ve terminals.
- Proper grounding is done at the Central Unit.
- DIP switch address setting in the Intercom Entrance Panels corresponds to the terminal
connections in the Central Unit
- DIP switch address setting in the Central Unit should be set to position “0”.
- Identifying individual Decoder Output to each apartment Telephone.
- For system programming, the chart consisting of the following details should be available :
o Decoder Output number
o Corresponding Apartment number related to the Decoder Output.
o Floor number
o Tenant’s details (name of the Tenant or Apartment identification name etc.)
o Access code number which will be used by the tenants for opening the door lock
from the Entrance Panel.
- Configure the Intercom Panel and the Guard Unit connections to the Central Unit.
- Programming the Central Unit with complete details of each tenant which includes the
tenants name, floor number, apartment number and user access code.
- Programming and assigning each of the Audio Decoder output address to the respective
apartment Telephones.
- After programming the entire system, each apartment Telephone should be verified for the
following:
o The digital directory of each panel includes all the details of the Tenant as
mentioned above.
o When an apartment number is dialed from the Entrance Panel, calls are being
made to the assigned Telephones in the apartment.

o When a call is received from the Panel or the Guard Unit, the apartment Telephone
produces a call tone.
o When the audio communication link is established, proper audio quality should be
ensured both at the Panel/Guard Unit side and also on the Apartment Telephones.
o When the audio channel is active, pressing the door lock button on the Telephone
should activate the door latch connected to that particular entrance panel.
o When the system is in standby mode, pressing the door lock button on the
Telephone should call the Guard Unit.
- Guard Unit should be verified for the following functions:
o System operation in Day, Mixed and Night modes.
o When a call is received from an apartment Telephone/Entrance Panel, the Guard
Unit should produce a beep sound and the LCD display of the Guard Unit should
indicate the corresponding apartment number/panel number.
o When the audio channel is active between the Guard Unit and the Entrance Panel,
pressing the door lock button on the Guard Unit should activate the door latch
connected to that particular Entrance Panel.
o Call logging in the Guard Unit incase of un-attended calls from apartment
Telephones or Entrance Panels.
- Verification for the door latch opening incase of entering authorized access codes on the
intercom panel keypad.
- Door lock will be installed along with coordination of door supplier.
- Door lock integration with revolving door will be made as required.

- Procedure for searching for the apartment details in the electronic directory of the Intercom
Panels.
- Procedure for dialing the apartment Telephones using the Intercom Panel keypad.
- Procedure for calling the Guard Unit from the Intercom Panels.
- Opening of the Entrance door lock by entering the user access code on the Intercom
Panels.
- Procedure for dialing the apartment telephones from the Guard Unit.
- Opening of the Entrance door lock from the Guard Unit.
- Opening of the Entrance door lock from the apartment Telephones.
- Calling the Guard Unit from the apartment Telephones.
- Checking the call tone in the apartment telephone when a call is received from the
Intercom Panel, Guard Unit.
- Checking the audio quality in the Intercom Panel, Guard Unit and the Telephones when the
respective communications are active.

hazardous wastes, such as caustics, acids, harmful dusts, etc. shall be equipped with
covers, and shall be provided by main contractor.
8.2.3 Tools and loose materials that create a hazard will be removed from all areas.
8.2.4 Cables, cords, wires, and electrical cables shall be kept in an elevated position to prevent
damage by activities or equipment and to eliminate potential hazards to personnel.
8.2.5 Material shall be stacked in a secured manner to prevent toppling or spillage.
8.2.6 Combustible scrap and debris will be removed at regular intervals during the course of the
work shift. A safe means shall be provided to facilitate such movement.
8.2.7 Appropriate firefighting equipment shall be available and readily accessible for the specific
type of fire hazard present.
8.2.8 Construction waste and debris will be removed as they are created at the same time of
the activity. No-one will be allowed to delay housekeeping to any later stage ever.
