I write to express my strong opposition to a rule recently proposed by the Department of Energy
that would add new regulations to ceiling fans. Countless American families rely on air
circulating fans to say cool through the summer. I am concerned about the impact these proposed
regulations would have on consumer choice and appliance affordability.
We are currently in a period of hot summer weather but also a time of high inflation. It is
unconscionable that your department would seek to limit the options of the American people to
stay cool in their own homes at a time like this. Other rules proposed by your department to
regulate appliances like gas stoves and water heaters were also a significant overreach of the
federal government. Heavy handed regulations like this limit consumer choice, drive up prices,
and impose onerous regulations on American manufacturers, many of whom are small
businesses.
As I write this letter, the current temperature here in Oklahoma City is 103° F. Access to
affordable cooling options during these summer months is a serious matter. I strongly oppose
this proposed rule and urge you to withdraw it entirely.
Sincerely,
STEPHANIE BICE
