Overview:
Welcome to the world of Arts! This is Mrs. Nilda S. Secillano your Instructor in Art Appreciation.
This a 3-unit course that attempts to develop your ability to appreciate, scrutinize and appraise the
works of art. This course will begin with preliminaries on what art is, what its assumption are, what it
normally amounts to, and its functions,
As you do along in this module, you will constantly ask to perform different activities as it is
believed that learning will be faster and better if you experience it first-hand.
As you go along with this module, you will be doing the following:
1. Take your time in reading the lessons carefully.
2. Perform activities related to understand the concept
3. Write your answers in your journal and submit every week or after you done with your
assignment.

Learning Activities:
The module in the first lesson deals about art. For you what is art? The word art comes from
the Latin ars which means a craft or specialized form of skill. Art is an expression of your emotions. Art
is something that is perennially around us.
In every country and in every generation, there is always art. Oftentimes people feel what is considered
artistic are only those which have been made long time ago. This is a misconception. Age is not a factor
of determining art. An art is not good because it is old, but old because it is good. Art has been timeless
and universal, spanning generations and continents through and through. The first assumption then is
that it stayed n because it is like and enjoyed by people continuously. A great piece of work will never
be obsolete.
Activity 2
List down at least works of Art of Filipino artist you know that is being taught in school and have been
required in junior high school and considered universal.
Do you agree that art is not a nature? One important characteristic of art is that it is not a
nature. Art is man’s expression of is reception to nature. Art is man’s way of interpreting nature. Art is
made by man, whereas nature is a given around us.

Art is a product of imagination and imagination is a product of art. Where do ideas in making
creation arts begin? It all start in the human minds. It all begins with imagination. Imagination is
