(ROTTA-Fix® 98090)
Synthetic fixative to improve wet fastness of PA
Function Textile auxiliary for improving wet fastness on polyamide and reserving agent
for dyeing polyamide/cotton fibre blends
Properties - improves wet fastness of all dyestuffs suitable for dyeing polyamide
- also suitable to increase fastness level of cationic dyeable polyamide with
basic dyestuffs (Astrazon®)
- reserves polyamide against direct dyes when dyeing of polyamide/cotton
blends
- suitable for reserve printing, especially carpet printing
- is not suitable in combination with nonionic or cationic auxiliaries
- low foaming
Chemical Characteristics Methylene crosslinked aryl sulphonic and hydroxy aryl sulphonic acids

Application
- Improving fastness of dyeings on polyamide with acid and
1:2 metal-complex dyestuffs
By using Sera Fast N-BS it is possible to increase the fastness level to water,
sea water, washing and perspiration. For this, the dyeings are treated after
the rinsing process with
2 - 4 % Sera Fast N-BS
at pH 4.5 and 70 - 80 °C for 20 - 30 min.
- Reserving of polyamide/cotton blends in dyeing processes with
direct dyes
Sera Fast N-BS reserves polyamide against direct dyestuffs in one-bath
or one-bath two stage procedures.
The dyeings are carried out as usual at pH 4.5 - 6.5 but with addition of
2 - 3 % Sera Fast N-BS.
Nonionic auxiliaries in the bath may cause inferior reservation.
- Afterwashing of printed goods for improving wet fastness
In general for improving the wet fastness of prints on polyamide Sera Fast
N-BS is applied after the alkaline wash-off procedure.
In cases where cationic detergents have been used a rinsing step with
0.7 g/l Sera Fast N-BS
is recommended first to remove the detergent and non-fixed dyestuffs from
the fibre and to prevent staining of the print ground.
Following this the aftertreatment is carried out with
2.5 % Sera Fast N-BS and
x ml/l acetic acid (pH 5 - 6) at
50 °C for 20 min.
- Stripping of Sera Fast N-BS
Sera Fast N-BS may be removed by treatment of the goods with
1 g/l soda ash
1 - 2 g/l scouring agent such as
Sera Wash M-SF
15 - 20 min at 70 - 80 °C, then rinse thoroughly.

- General notes
- The effect of Sera Fast N-BS is influenced by treatment of the goods with
saturated steam and curing temperatures higher than 185 °C. In these cases
the amount of Sera Fast has to be increased.
- Sera Fast N-BS may precipitate in the presence of nonionic auxiliaries in the
treatment bath as well as with concentrated acids.
- During a final fixation process Sera Fast N-BS might impair the handle of
the fabric significantly.

Aftertreatment agent
Problem
- Wet fastness properties of acid and premetallized dyes on polyamide are often borderline, depending on
the type of dye in use, the depth of shade, type of Polyamide and the type/amount of Polyurethane in
blends.
- If using Direct dyes in Polyamide/Cotton blends the staining of the Polyamide part is always a problem.
A reservation of the Polyamide part is the only solution to obtain optimum fastness properties.
- Staining of printed carpet areas in resist printing
Product Requirements
- The synthetic fixative should improve wet fastness properties of acid and premetallized dyes on Polyamide
in general
- The product should reserve Polyamide against direct dyes if dyeing Polyamide/Cotton blends
- The product has to avoid staining of printed areas in carpet resist printing
Aftertreatment
z To obtain sufficient wet fastness properties, an aftertreatment
is often necessary
z Anionic syntans based on condensation products of aromatic
sulphonic acids are used e.g. Sera Fast N-BS
A film is built around the fibre
"Free" amino-end groups are blocked off by the product
The dye molecules cannot more migrate
