– Detach driver seat and fold towards rear with lines connec‐

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Removing
– Switch off ignition.
– Withdraw ignition key (if applicable).
Only for vehicles with 48 V battery and high-voltage vehicles
– De-energise 48 V system ⇒ page 31 .
Continued for all vehicles
– Open cap -1- over negative battery terminal.

– Loosen nut -7- several turns, and pull battery clamp -8- of
earth cable off negative battery terminal.
– Open cap -4- over positive battery terminal.
– Loosen nut -6- several turns and disconnect battery terminal
clamp -5- of positive cable from positive battery terminal.
– Perform voltage test. Voltage must be 0 V.
– Unscrew nut -3-, and remove securing bracket -2-.
– Pull heat insulation sleeve -4- upwards slightly.
NOTICE
A loosely fitted battery creates the following dangers:
♦ Shortened service life caused by vibration damage (danger
of explosion).
♦ The plates in the battery cells will be damaged if the bat‐
tery is not secured correctly.
♦ Damage to battery casing by clamping bracket (possible
leakage of acid with high consequential costs).
♦ Poor crash safety.

Removing
– Deactivate vehicle’s drive system, and switch off all electrical
consumers.
– Keep the ignition key and other entry and start authorisation
control units outside the vehicle in order to avoid accidental
activation of the vehicle’s drive system.
– Remove luggage compartment floor from vehicle towards
rear.
– Unscrew nuts -arrows- for battery cover -1-.

– Open cover -3-, unscrew nut -2-, and lay positive wire -1- to
one side.
– Press grommet -4- in cover towards outside as far as it will
go.
– Guide out positive wire -1- with wiring harness through open‐
ing in cover.
– Loosen nut -8- several turns and disconnect battery terminal
clamp -7- of positive cable from positive battery terminal.

NOTICE
A loosely fitted battery creates the following dangers:

when working on pyrotechnic components:
♦ Contrary to the following description, the battery must be
disconnected with the ignition SWITCHED ON when work‐
ing on pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbags, belt tension‐

ty precautions; Safety precautions when working on pyro‐
technic components.

Disconnecting
– Deactivate vehicle’s drive system, and switch off all electrical
consumers.
– Keep the ignition key and other entry and start authorisation
control units outside the vehicle in order to avoid accidental
activation of the vehicle’s drive system.

and installing air filter housing.

Fingers leave traces of grease on the glass bulb, which
