    1. There are 24 hours in a day and scientists tell us that we
    should sleep for 3/8 of the day. How much time should we
    spend sleeping?

    2. The National History Museum has collected 125 dinosaurs. Cole


    has collected 3/5 of this amount. How many dinosaurs has Cole
    collected?

    3. Ryan is 160cm tall and his brother is 7/8 as tall as him. How tall
    is Ryan’s brother?

    4. The weather forecaster says that it is 65oC in London but only


    7/10 as hot in New York. How hot is it in New York?

    5. Skateboards cost $36 each in my local store. The shopkeeper


    says if I buy one I can buy another for only 7/9 of the normal
    price. How much would a second skateboard cost?

    6. Chad collected 256 M&Ms but lost 5/8 of them on his way to
    school through a hole in his bag. When he arrived at school how
    many M&Ms did Chad have left?

    7. There are 25 pupils in the class, 3/5 of the pupils support the
    Flames and the remainder support the Oilers. How many pupils

    8. The local shop normally sells Mars bars for 40 cents. The
    shopkeeper says I can buy them for 1/4 less than the normal

    more. How much does Ms Pidkowa weigh this year?

    10. McDonalds sell milkshakes in two sizes. A small milkshake


    contains 300ml and a large milkshake contains 2/3 more.
    a) How much does a large milkshake contain?

    b) If Mrs Harford drinks 2/3 of a small milkshake and Miss


    Pidkowa drinks 1/2 of a large milkshake who drinks the most?

    11. Jim has three times as many comic books as Charles. Charles
    has two-thirds as many comic books as Bob. Bob has 27 comic
    books. How many comic books does Jim have.

    12. Three students have to write a make up test. Mark scored


    24/60 on his first test and 32/40 on his make up test. Jaxon
    scored 35/70 on his first test and 54/60 on his makeup test.

    Bonus) Four men were shipwrecked on an island. Having no food, they


    went to work gathering pineapples. After gathering pineapples, they
    were tired and all fell asleep. After another while, one of the men awoke
    and was very hungry so he ate 1/3 of the pineapples - more than his
    proper share. He then went back to sleep. The second man awoke and
    being hungry, ate 1/3 of the remaining pineapples and went back to
    sleep. The third man did the same. When the fourth man awoke, he took
    only his rightful share of the remaining pineapples. Then there were 6
    pineapples left. How many pineapples did the men gather?
