Recycle (RX2) Drum Loop Library

Intro

Like a large city that has a large up of cultures from around the
world, Skippy’s BeatTropolis is a drum loop library that is dis-
organized in a similar way. Much of today’s music is a total melting
pot of styles, making a drum loop library of just one style sounded
limiting to Skippy. So, in BeatTropolis you will find live Rock drum
loops next to Techno loops that are right next to Hip Hop styled loops
as well as a huge pallet of chopped up synthesizer chords and
sequences. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT THE CHOPPED
SYNTH LOOPS!!

These loops are presented in Recycle (RX2) format for maximum

flexibility - RX2 files can be opened by virtually every sequencer
platform and today’s most powerful rhythm & sample based plug-ins.
These drum loops have been tested in many different compatible
plug-ins and applications. If you do find any compatibility problems
with these loops, please send an email to [email protected] so
that we can investigate and resolve them as soon as possible.

Installing and using with Stylus RMX:

Since I have a number of video tutorials for Stylus RMX, I will include
instructions on how to install into Stylus RMX for those of you wishing
to use this library this way (Highly recommended!) With Stylus RMX,
these RX2 files HAVE to be converted into a unique format to work
inside of Stylus RMX. With most other applications and plug-ins, you
simply load the Recycle .rx2 loop you want to use - but that is not
how Stylus RMX works. Please be aware that the uncompressed
Stylus RMX version of these loops is larger than the .RX2 folder they
came from. For example the library goes from 229MB for the RX2
folder to over 647MB for the Stylus RMX version. Make sure you
have the HD Space for this conversion!!

1) Run the Application called “SAGE Converter” that is in your Application

folder (this is installed when you first installed the Stylus RMX plug-in.)
2) After you have Un-Zipped the “Skippys BeatTropolis” file, you can drag the
folder on top of the SAGE Converter Application window and it will
AUTOMATICALLY do all of the converting of EVERY loop in this library.
You don’t have to do anything else to convert the loops…. The converter
does all the work for you!!
3)

How to Access BeatTropolis inside of Stylus RMX

3) When you open the Stylus RMX plug-in, you click the FOLDER image (where
you always go to select what drum loop you want to use), Change from “Core
Library” to “User Libraries”. These Loops DO NOT show up in the core library.
4) You can now click on the select menu below “User Libraries” and
find “Skippy’s BeatTropolis” - NOTE: each of the suites has lots of
loops in them so make sure you check them all out!

List of the Loops:

Below are all of the drum loops included with these 2 drum loop
libraries organized by Volume One and VolumeTwo.
NOTE: You can purchase both Volumes at the same time. You will
then have ALL of the drum loops listed in both volumes but they are
in a single folder for easier usability.

Loop Comments / Info:

A little insight into this library –

The first letters correspond to the approx. tempo the loop is designed to play at.
HOWEVER! One of my über cool techniques is that I RECORDED most of these
loops MUCH SLOWER than this (down to 45BPM in some cases). This unique
technique allows the loops to be played slower and the original tails of the drums
remain intact.

NOTE:  Because  of  the  above  technique  –  there  will  be  cases  where  you  will  want  to  make
your  AMP  release  time  longer  –  so  that  original  tails  of  the  loops  are  not  chopped  off.

Here are details for the different codes found at the start of loop names.

FMx = Full Mix - all elements playing.

SMx = Small Mix - fewer elements playing but still with kick and snare.

NoS or NoK = No Snare or No Kick in the groove.

Many of the Suites contain also contain most if not ALL of the single elements
that are useful by themselves. As a general rule, if you hear the element in a
loop, don’t layer that same element as a single loop on another track – the
doubling effect usually sounds pretty yucky ;D

The Synth Chopped Suites are chopped bass and synth lines or chopped
rhythmic pads…. The KEY or CHORD of the LOOP is the last lettesr in the name
of the loop. Synth Chopped Suite names were so long that I didn’t include tempo
in the name… but these work at a surprisingly large tempo range.

Kevin Rankin is an awesome rock drummer from here in Portland Oregon that
brought over his kit and played in my basement for the acoustic rock drum loops
included in this library. He’s a killer player and a very nice guy.

Thank you Kevin and if you need live rock drums – contact him:

Single Cool Drum Loops – these are various Drum loops that don’t have mix
variations or broken out elements (maybe 1 variation) but were interesting
enough to include in these libraries to keep the mix of styles in one library
concept growing.

Skippy used lots of advanced tricks and techniques to get these RX2 drum loops
to sound great and a huge range of tempos - just because the loop says it’s
original tempo was 85 BPM doesn’t mean it won’t sound great at 132 BPM!
So there you go!! It was a lot of fun and hard work to create this content and I
look forward to hearing how you all use these grooves and elements in your music.
Keep in mind that since these are in the Recycle 2.0 format they are BEGGING to
be re-quantized to different timing values, seriously mangled with the various
parameters that many Recycle players have in them. So do your best to NOT use
these as just a static, boring drum loop – lol !!!

Remember that there are FREE Video Tutorials and support for lots of other
virtual instruments online at Skippy’s website: www.pluginguru.com. Currently
there are video tutorials and custom patches for Native Instruments FM 8 and
Stylus RM X with more planned in the future!

M ake sure you join Skippy’s mailing list at his website.
