A separate area shall be provided for cylinders of each individual material stored. Name of the material in each storage area shall be posted. g. Cylinders should be stored in a cool dry well ventilated, and equipped with compartment, or dividing walls 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) high which have a fire resistance of one hour. h. Cylinder, valves and apparatus shall be kept free from oily substances. i. Cylinders shall be stored away from sources of ignition such as sparks, hot slag and flames or be adequately protected. j. Compressed cylinders shall be secured with chains in an upright position at all times even in the storage area and cage where unnecessary movement is evident. k. Propane cylinders shall be stored horizontally with the rupture disc in the ‘UP’ position. Do not store them in direct sunlight. Nitrogen cylinders should be stored in a shaded place where they will not be exposed to extreme temperatures. l. Do not allow oxygen to come in contact with hydrocarbons/ highly flammable substances (e.g. oil, gasoline, waste, grease) in any form. Do not store oxygen cylinders with cylinders containing hydrocarbon (e.g. propane). 15. Safe distance between oxygen and fuel gas cylinders. 6.1 meters 16.
