EPILUX 155

High Build Epoxy


PRODUCT A High Build modified amine adduct cured epoxy containing inert pigment that can be applied
as an intermediate or finish coat in aggressive conditions.
DESCRIPTION • Excellent resistance to fresh and salt water.
• Good solvent and chemical resistance.
• High film build in one coat.
• Low water permeability.
• Approved by the National Water Council for use in contact with potable water.
• BS 5493 reference. Meets performance of KU 1B

DESIGNED USE • High build epoxy for the protection of steel and concrete.
• Suitable for application to pipelines, harbour and shore installation, internal tank lining, (crude
oil, diesel, ATF, etc), potable water tanks, chemical plants.
• As a non toxic chemical resistant finish coat in food or chemical industries.
• Suitable as topcoat for upto C5 Environment as per ISO12944 Part 2

APPLICATION METHOD OF APPLICATION:


DETAILS This is the recommended method of application:
Maximum 5% Thinner may be added.
AIRLESS SPRAY
Tip Size: 0.48 - 0.58 mm (0.019 - 0.023 in)
Pressure: 110 - 160 kg/cm2 (1600 – 2300 psi)
May be used for difficult shapes or touch-up.
BRUSH OR ROLLER However, additional coats may be required to achieve
the recommended film thickness. Thinner (max. 5%)

SURFACE This product should be applied to a surface that has been blast cleaned and suitably primed (e.g.
with EPILUX or ZINCANODE Primers)
PREPARATION
• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance with the guide lines given
by SSPC-SPI.
• Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a
smooth surface.
• Abrasive blast clean to a minimum standard of Sa 2 ½ Swedish Standard SIS 05 59 00 or ISO
8501-1 : 1988.
• Any surface defects revealed by blast cleaning should be ground, filled or treated in a suitable
manner.
• An average surface profile of 50 microns is acceptable, but this average should not exceed 75
microns.
• After blasting, remove dust from the surface.
• The surface to be coated must also be clean and dry.
ALUMINIUM
• Degrease and abrade with Solvalux 7-45 and wet-or-dry paper. Apply LUXAPRIME 1500
followed by EPILUX primers.
CONCRETE
• Ensure that the surface is sound. Remove laitance by thorough wire brushing, acid etching or
sweep blasting. Blowholes and other defects should be filled with EPILUX 829. EPILUX 155
may be applied directly to the clean sound concrete provided the first coat is thinned up to
20% Solvalux 7-45.

PRODUCT USE • As with all epoxy coating, this product will chalk on exposure to direct sunlight.
RESTRICTIONS • If maximum over coating time is likely to be exceeded, apply a "tie coat"
• Dry heat resistant up to 120°C
• May also be applied between 100 and 150 microns DFT
• Contact Berger Representative for suggesting suitable paint system

SAFETY • Avoid contact with the skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing such as overalls, goggles, dust
masks and gloves. Use a barrier cream.
PRECAUTIONS • Ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the area where the product is being applied. Do not breathe
vapor or spray.
• This product is flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Take precautionary
measures against static discharge. In case of fire – blanket flames with foam, carbon dioxide or dry
chemicals
• Refer to MSDS for further information.

FIRST AID • Eyes: In the event of accidental splashes, flush eyes with water immediately and obtain medical advice
• Skin: Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water or approved industrial cleaner.
• DO NOT USE solvent or thinners.
• Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, loosen collar and keep patient rested.
• Ingestion: In case of accidental ingestion, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.
