Overcoming the problems of installing JTIS (32 bit software application) in a 64 bit operating system Version 1.1
This document covers how to install JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System) software in Windows 7 (64 bit) operating system.
The JTIS21 covers XJS model years 1995 and 1996, XJ model years 1995 thru and including 2004, XK model years 1997 thru and including 2004,
S type model years 1999.25 thru and including 2004, and X type model years 2001.50 thru and including 2004.25
Page 11 has information on where to download and how to extract the JTIS21 files from the archive (instructions on download is contained in a 6 meg PDF file,
there are 3 archive files to be downloaded (part1.exe is 191 megs, part2.rar is 191 megs, part3.rar is 59 megs)
I noticed that this issue has been around for some time now. It has been reported in Jaguar forums here is the US and also in the UK.
I tried using the Microsoft Virtual Machine and XP mode option. I was able to install JTIS in XP mode (virtual machine) on Windows7 Professional (64 bit OS) on
my PC. Using XPmode brings on a whole bunch of application reinstalls in the XPmode virtual machine that was created (antivirus, printers, PDF reader – the list
goes on and on). Also this approach uses a large amount of disk space and 512k of memory.
I really wanted to be able to use JTIS in windows7 without having to use the virtual machine option.
The problem is that the JTIS setup program attempts to install a 32 bit activex component called DAO350.DLL.
The component registration fails on x64 versions of windows because the setup makes assumptions about the underlying system paths.
The successful registering of the DAO350.DLL is critical to getting the JTIS software installed properly.
Jaguar Forums (http://www.jaguarforums.com) member Plums had given clues on how the JTIS might be installed properly (64 bit Operating System) in a
April 8, 2011 forum post (post# 15 -http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x308-xj8-xjr-27/jtis-21-cd-ebay-$1-99-plus-$4-shipping-52682/ ).
Well, that is the extent I will give on the background and the reason I decided to make known and publish this solution.
At this point, I would like to give thanks and credit to forum member Plums for providing the key elements on how to install this 32 bit software
properly in the 64 bit operating system. Plums responded to my request for help and provided the most important elements needed to successfully
install the dll and also gave his permission to publish this article.
I also want to note that I will provide support for installing the DAO350.dll in win7 (64 bit OS) for forum members of the Jaguar Forums
(http://www.jaguarforums.com). Please use private messaging system to contact me with any associated issues on this (I will be the point person).

After I registered the DA0350.dll, I had a problem with the JTIS menu located at the top of the screen. Its menu items were not opening the files (PDFs Electrical,
DTC, etc)). I had to run the xp fix.exe file on the JTIS CD to resolve these issues.
Also, I had to download /install Microsoft help.exe (the help software provided by Microsoft) to fix opening of the JTIS help file.
This document provides instructions on the steps required to prepare for the install of software:
1) How to Create a restore point (just as a precaution - if a situation arises and a restore is required)
2) Downloading files – instructions on download links are given later in this document:
DA350.dll (32 bit file - no 64 bit file is available)
Microsoft Help software file (32 bit for 64 bit OS needed to make JTIS Help work properly)
XP-Fix.exe (JTIS file install for other DAO files that are missing)
3) Certain files that need be executed using the run as administrator option
Files (cmd.exe and setup.exe) - instructions and illustrations are presented later in this document.
The paths used in this document presume the defaults used by windows in a fresh install.
If other paths are being used, you will need to make the appropriate adjustments
Download DA350.dll (you have to use this 32 bit file because there is no 64 bit file is available) –
Save downloaded file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\DAO (use the "save as" option)
Click on Start , then type cmd.exe in the "search programs and files" box (to run the command line), then on next screen Programs (1)
right click on cmd.exe (that is at top of screen)
Go to next page
Now set this cmd.exe file to run as administrator Page 8 of 14
click on Run as administrator
Now the User Account Control pops up asking for approval to run as administrator
click on Yes button
Now the dao350.dll is registered in the Win7 64 bit Operating System. Then type exit and press the enter key (to close the command line session)
.

Now download XP-Fix (JTIS file install for other DAO files that are missing) - use this weblink http://www.mediafire.com/file/iggdtewd7ouhinz/xp_fix.exe
(use "save as" option and save file on desktop) then right click on XP-Fix file to run as administator.
When this User Account Control pops up, click on Yes button

Now all the prep work is completed. The following information gives instructions on how to get the JTIS21 download files (to install it).
Use this weblink to get JTIS21 download files, http://www.mediafire.com/?54tdwq3vx0xub , download and read
"Mediafire download & extract instructions for JTIS21.pdf" file first (this pdf file covers what files to download including the self extracting
JTIS21 archive and the detailed steps of preparing for the actual JTIS21 install, also the 3 archive files).
Go to JTIS21 folder and select Setup.exe Then right click to run as administator.
When this User Account Control pops up, click on Yes button

Engine Cooling information is in the Engine Cooling section 303-03A for the Range Model XJ. It is only in the Model Year 1998 (and
not in 1999-2003 Model Year Selections).
Looks like the JTIS does not repeat a section unless something changes in that section.
So Range Model XJ for Range Years 1999-2003 does not have section 303-03A. You have to use 1998 model selection for your
Engine Cooling source of information.
Also in Range Model XJ Years 2000-2003 in Engine section 303-01 In Vehicle Repair subsection, there is only 1 repair listed - oil pressure switch.
In the XJ model section for the 1998 year, the In Vehicle Repair subsection (Engine Section 303-01)
has a long list of repairs listed alpabetically from Connecting Rod Bearing through Variable Camshaft Bearings Oil Control Unit Housing.
The XJ model section for the 1999 year, the In Vehicle Repair subsection (Engine Section 303-01) also has a long list of repairs
listed alpabetically from Connecting Rod Bearing through Valve Cover RH. Something must have changed between 1998 and 1999
