FIRE BUILDING AND CAMP COOKERY

I. Objectives:
1. Show correct techniques for starting a fire.
2. Start a fire with one match and keep it going for 10 minutes.
3. Know and practice fire safety rules.
4. Demonstrate simmering, boiling, frying, baking bread on a stick and
bamboo rice.
5. Reflect on the spiritual and leadership applications of the activity in
relation to the theme.

II. Materials:
A. Fire Building: (Tepee Fire or Log Cabin Fire)
*box of matchsticks, 2 poles(3ft each), fire starter, firewood, can for
boiling (370ml), plastic twine or straw and an egg.
B. Egg Frying:
*eggs, ingredients, cooking oil, and bond paper.
C. Camp Bread:
*sticks for bread, flour (1/2 kl), cooking oil, sugar, and utensils you
deemed necessary.
D. Others:
* bamboo and rice for Bamboo rice.

III. Mechanics/ Procedures:


1. Choose 5 Pathfinder participants from your school or club preferably a
combination of boys and girls.
2. Borrowing of materials are not allowed during the activity.
3. For fire building, each club will only use 3 matchsticks to make a fire.
They will only be permitted to use more if all of the matchsticks are
consumed and the attempts are unsuccessful.
4. Fire building will be followed by water boiling, egg frying and camp
bread. Bamboo rice can be set on fire anytime during the cookery.
5. Every event (Fire building, Boiling, Egg Frying, Camp Bread, and
Bamboo Rice), has each corresponding points based on the point system.
6. Fire building and water boiling will be judged according to time, while
egg frying, camp bread, and bamboo rice will be evaluated on texture,
taste/flavor, and appearance.
7. The event will end by a group/individual reflection through the leading
of the Counselors.

Note: (The instructions and procedures above might be changed depends on the issue that may arise during
the activity.)
