Wilson
Wilson’s disease is a rare genetic disease that causes copper to build up in the liver, brain,
and vital organs. The majority of people with Wilson’s disease are between 5 and 35 years
.old, but it can affect those younger or older than that as well
Copper has a key role in nerve growth, healthy bones, collagen production and melanin
pigmentation in the skin. In normal cases, copper is absorbed from the food you eat, and the
body gets rid of excess amounts of it by means of a substance made in the liver (biliary
juicer)
However, in the case of people with Wilson’s disease, the body does not get rid of copper as
it is supposed and therefore accumulates copper in quantities that may pose a risk to the life
of the patient. Early diagnosis of Wilson’s disease helps treat it, and many people with the
.disease live completely normal lives
