I would like to thank and give appreciation to all those who gave me full help and support to
complete this assignment. I would be very thankful to my lecturer, Miss Faten who has
helped and guided me on the process of writing this assignment.
I would like to thank my parents who always encourage and support me in all aspect. Lastly,
I would also thank my friends for give me a lot of useful advice throughout the writing of this
assignment.

 A FAMOUS CONTEMPORARY LEADER

Everyone has their own idol that we take as a role model in this world. My leader idol is Syed
Saddiq. Syed Saddiq is a politician from Malaysia who has represented Muar as a Member
of Parliament (MP) since May 2018. Additionally, from July 2018 until the Pakatan Harapan
(PH) administration's downfall in February 2020, he served as minister of youth and sports.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration was led by former prime minister Mahathir
Mohamad.

He was a founding member of the Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), and since
the organization's foundation in September 2020, he has served as its first president. He
was a founding member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU), a former member of
the PH coalition, and served as its first youth leader from the time the group was founded in
2016 until its expulsion from the organisation in May.

On December 6, 1992, he was born in Pulai, Johor Bahru, Johor. He is the youngest of four
children. His father works in construction in Singapore and his mother teaches English, and
both of his parents toil hard to provide for their family. Despite coming from an unrich family,
he works hard to prosper, realise his aspirations, and alter his family's course.

His full name is Syed Saddiq bin Syed Abdul Rahman, 30 years old in 2023. He was born at
Pulai, Johor Bharu. He is one of the youngest politicians in the world, and the youngest ever
to be part of Malaysia’s government cabinet.

Prior to enrolling in the Bachelor of Laws programme at the International Islamic University
Malaysia (IIUM), he completed his education at the Royal Military College (RMC). He
participated in a United Asian Debating Championship (UADC), an Asian-level debate
competition, while he was a student at IIUM. As the three-time winner of Asia's Best Speaker
at the Asian British Parliamentary (ABP) Debating Championship, he is well-known in the
debate community. He graduated the Lee Kuan Yew Senior Fellowship in Public Service

Programme at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore in
2021.

He exhibits a variety of personality qualities while he leads the society. First of all, he is
reliable and keeps his word. He pledged to assist former athletes whose contracts are being
terminated because of a lack of performance in 2019, the year in which he will serve as the
sports minister. One of the former athletes needed to start a stall to earn money, so he
pledged to provide direct aid. He also stressed his aim to improve the education and training
of athletes by offering scholarships to help them continue their studies. In order to fulfil his
pledge to give them education and training, he was able to establish links with seven
universities. He also exudes a great deal of confidence. He brings the voices of the youth
together and makes sure that its leaders are chosen from a group that is frequently
disregarded by traditional political structures. The behavior focus that he implemented are
task orientation and relation orientation. He set up the goals for youth to lead the country
toward success. In 2019, he struggle to give the job oppurtinites to the youth. He manage to
reduce the amount of unemployement among youth. For the relation orientation, he agreed
that the youth drug addiction should not be in prison, but they should be in rehabilitation. The
drug is wrong but despite of punishment, there are the other ways to shape them to be a
better person.

His leadership style is democratic. MUDA by Syed Saddiq holds a lot of visions such as
introduce fresh politics to the nation so that it is not hindered by outdated politics and helps
to represent all societal levels in the search of justice. They brainstorm the stratergies with
all communities to come out with better ideas. We live in a democratic system, thus the
community has the freedom to express its ideas as well.

TRAITS AND SKILLS

Desire to lead
Syed Saddiq was the BERSATU youth head prior to coming up with the concept to form
a political party that would be supported by young people who were involved in anti-
corruption, multiracial, and socially conscious movements. Regardless of race, gender,
creed, political opinions, or skin tone, they strive to unite people. There are far too many
elder generations in the existing political system who think they have the knowledge and
power to manage the country. The country is currently in an unsettling and gloomy
political scenario, but Syed Saddiq is capable of leading and creating new tactics to
guide the nation out of it.
 Extraversion

He is an energetic person because he struggle to put Malaysia to a better government

system when he fights against corruption that happen in the government system by
gathering all the youth in a party MUDA. Moreover, he is sociable person. He interacted
with the youth usually on social media because he wants to lead them and give them
opportunities to speak and also giving their opinions

POWER FOCUS
Legitimate Power
Syed Saddiq serves as a representative for Muar in the legislature. To protect justice, he
is proposing solutions to people's problems. Every member of the parliament will be
given a distinct area to manage by Dewan Rakyat. Syed Saddiq is tasked with leading
and overseeing the welfare of the locals in the Muar area. He gave laptops to students
from B40 families as part of his treatment of the Muar people.

Referent Power
Syed Saddiq is a courageous individual who fights for justice. He had the young people's
interest and had inspired them. Syed Saddiq stood in for the younger generation in favour of
improved politics in the future. This is a result of the older politicians who once held power
apparently ignoring the needs of the younger generation. He is the one who brought up the
topic of the needs of youth during the conference in the Dewan Rakyat. The youth were
inspired by and looked up to him because of this admirable quality. Many young people who
are members of the party MUDA and struggle for youth justice can attest to this.

In conclusion, I would say that Syed Saddiq is a good contemporary leader whom we can
take as our idol. I hope that he will come out more with his brilliant idea for Malaysia in the
future as a great politician.
