ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful. All praises to Allah and
His blessing for the completion of this report. I thank God for all the opportunities, trials
and strength that have been showered on me to finish this project and the report. I
experienced so much during this process, not only from the academic aspect but also
from the aspect of creativity. My humblest gratitude to the holy Prophet Muhammad
(Peace be upon him) whose way of life has been a continuous guidance for me.

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank my lecturer, Sir Muhamad Aiman Afiq Bin
Mohd Noor for his guidance, understanding and most importantly, he has provided
positive encouragement and a warm spirit to finish this final project. It has been a great
pleasure and honor to have him as my lecturer. This final report was prepared for
University Technology Mara under the subject of Experimental Construction (ADE444).
This report is based on the guideline and consultation given by the lecturer.

My deepest gratitude goes to all of my family members. It would not be possible to finish
this report without the support from them. I would like to thank my dearest father Azahari
@ Radzuan bin Ahmad and my mother Roszita binti Ibrahim for their cooperation,
encouragement, constructive suggestion and full of support in the completion of this
project from the beginning till the end.

Thank you also goes to all of my friends and everyone, that has been contributed by
supporting my work and help myself till it is fully completed.

THE PROCESS OF MATERIAL SELECTION

In designing this project, I need to be considered the type of materials that should I used from
the aspect of:

 Material costs – the material should be affordable or recycle items

 Environmental impact – the materials that I used should not give impact to the mother
Earth and environment
 Mechanical attribute – materials that I choose should be support the performance of
my marble track
 Physical properties – such as weight of the materials, should be suitable so that all
track can be joint properly

Therefore, after making decision on what materials should be selected, I decided to use the
corrugated paperboard.

Picture 1: The types of corrugated paperboard

There are various type of corrugated paperboard. In this project, I used the double facer flute
and the single facer flute. Corrugated paperboard are made up of corrugated board consisting
of a fluted sheet glued to one or more than one liners. The flutes act as the heart of the
corrugated box and work like a cushion for the packaged material providing safety against
mechanical shocks and vibration. The light weight of this materials makes them easy to
handle. The corrugated board are also highly affordable as the raw material required to make
corrugated paperboard is cheap and readily available. They are available in a range of shape,
sizes, designs and colours suiting the requirements of varied use. The material that I choose
also are eco-friendly products that can be recycled and reused

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Picture 2: The sketch of the design

The important part of design and development process is the sketching part. Sketches help
me to convey ideas, demonstrate functionality, visualize the marble flow, and illustrate
anything that requires during the process.

THE RELEVENT TERMINOLOGY APPLIED IN THE PROJECT

In order to make sure the marble track can be joint smoothly and properly, the concept of
Science has been applied such as:

 Friction: The force that slows objects down when they are rubbing against each other.
Some things make lots of friction, like brakes on a tire, and some make very little
friction, like skates on ice.
 Gravity: A force of attraction that occurs between all objects. I experience it as the
constant force that pulls objects toward the centre of the Earth.

During the making of this project, I used my ability of observation to watch how a marble rolled
on the track that I made. I looked for patterns in the way my marble moved and looking for
regular patterns in the motion of the marble. I write down what I observe to keep a record of
what I see each time I perform a test. Once I figure out what the patterns are, I use these
patterns to make predictions about future motion. Careful observation also helps me to find
and solve problems that come up in my designs and investigations, so that I can eventually
come up with just the right solution.

THE FLOW IN MAKING OF THE PROJECT

First of all, I draw the spiral part of the marble track. This is one of the important part in joining
all the tracks later on.

Picture 3: The sketches of the spiral track

Then, I made this hole-shaped track so that the marble can go through it. This part also will
be joint together with the other tracks.

Next, I made the prototype of the stairs. Since there are some of the track that I made was in
a huge size, I need to construct an extra huge stairs so that this part can support the others
tracks while I joining it all together. Moreover, the stairs function is to rotate the marble so that
the marble keep moving on the track.

After making the tracks, I arranged the position on how the track should be joint. All the tracks
should be placed at the right position so that the marble can run smoothly without having an
obstacle.

However, then I found out that my marble scream does not meet the requirement that it should
produce a sound. In solution, I created a track that purposely attached with a pushpin
thumbtack so that when the marble run through it, a sound can be produced.

Later, I re-arranged the position of the tracks and successfully overcome the problem.

As for the decorations, I create an alien shaped props using the modelling clay. I learned how
to shape the aliens from the YouTube. It was an exciting process since I can discover my
creativity while doing the activity.

After I finished in making all the track, I spray the track with the dark blue paint. I choose the
colour since I had choose the theme of my project as ‘The Outer Space’. I also added some
decoration bells along the tracks so that when the marble run through it, a sound can be
produce.

CONCLUSION

All in all, the project of ‘The Amazing Scream’ was successfully finished and followed all the
requirement asked by the lecturer.

While conducting this task, I learned how to keep my marble rolling by understanding the
forces acting on it, especially gravity and friction. Gravity constantly pulls down on the marble,
causing it to roll on any surface that’s not perfectly level.

Meanwhile, friction occurs any time two objects rub against each other. This rubbing slows
movement and creates heat in the process. If the force of friction is greater than the force of
gravity, the marble will roll to a stop. By making the track just steep enough to overcome
friction, I can keep my marble rolling smoothly.
