Theme: Smart Transportation System
Smart Parking System

Internet of Things (IoT) has become more prevalent today and Smart Transportation System
is one of its many implementations. Over the years, car owners have spent a long time to find
available parking spaces and struggle with safety issues in public parking spaces. This
Capstone project intends to resolve this matter via the usage of the Internet of Things (IoT) by
creating a mobile application that will be able to provide real-time data of the availability of
car bays, a safety alarm system as well as the capability to call for security. The project
involves three main software; MIT App Inventor, Arduino and Firebase. MIT App Inventor
was used to create the mobile application basically acting as the front-end for the customer to
interact with. On the other hand, Arduino mainly functions to deal with the hardware
involving the IR sensors, Arduino UNO and NODEMCU in order to facilitate the parking
system and the safety alarm. Furthermore, the entire process of the data being sent from the
MIT App Inventor to the hardware and vice versa is facilitated by Firebase which acts as the
server providing a real-time database.

UTM GO smart transportation is a mobile application the mobile application to be able to track
the user locations and the bus locations. This feature would benefit the students that use UTM
bus to commute inside UTM. Students would no longer have to wait longer time to arrive at
the bus stop. They can track the bus location for their room rather than have to queue or wait
longer time at the bus stop. Students able to plan their time wisely as they can track the
locations of the bus and check the bus schedule.

Smart Traffic Light Detection System

Safety features provided by smart transportation systems are literally significant to

avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that alert the driver to potential
problems, or to avoid collisions by implementing safeguards and taking over control of
the vehicle. The purpose of this project is to design a traffic light detection system for
car collision avoidance. The designed system alerts the drivers via sound and vibration
to an approaching red traffic light. The system is being built using the concept of object
tracking by colour detection. Essential knowledge included image processing and
computer vision using Raspberry PI programmable board and OpenCV library with
Python programming language. The designed product is expected to alert the drivers by
producing an alarm sound and vibrating the steering wheel when necessary such as
speeding towards a traffic junction of red light. When the live camera detects a red
traffic light, the circuit will process the image as a red light and traffic light as shown in
Figure 1(a). Then, the buzzer will produce the sound and the vibration motor on the
steering wheel will vibrate to alert the driver as shown in Figure 1(b). Overall, the
system implementation is reliable as the proposed method can achieve the real-time
processing requirement with desired detection and alerting results.

Hands-Off Detection (HOD) System

Driving with one hand does not give drivers full control over steering, thus increasing the risk
for an accident than driving with both hands. In addition, driving with one hand while eating or
using cell phones is even more of a hazard. This capstone project introduces a hands-off
detection system to give an audible alarm to the driver when either of the hands is released
from the steering wheel over a certain duration. The hands-off detection system integrates a
speedometer and a handgrip detector, in which the hands-off duration to trigger the alarm will
be varied according to the vehicle speed. A NEO-6M GPS module functions as the
speedometer to track the speed of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the handgrip detector is
implemented using a pair of Force Sensing Resistors (FSR), detecting the status (hold or
release) of the right and the left hand respectively. The alarm will be terminated once the driver
holds back the steering wheel with both hands. The working prototype was successfully
developed demonstrating the potential to be used in the real application.

Smart Parking Application

Parking an automobiles in a shopping mall parking lot frequently results in extra time spent
driving in search of an available space, which causes traffic congestion and pollution. One
underlying reason of inefficient parking behaviour is a lack of guidance information to available
parking space. We overcome this problem by using smart parking devices and technologies
which is RFID and an application called Smart Parking App to assist drivers in locating available

Report-OnDGo - Smart Road Reporting App

Public facilities are defined as services provided by the government to cater the basic needs of
the general public. The broken and dysfunctional public facilities can bring harm and
difficulties in the daily life. In such a situation, the community can lodge a report to the
responsible organization to fix the problems. This paper presents the development of a smart
road reporting app known as Report-OnDGo, by using Android Studio. The main aim of this
app is to increase the effectiveness and accuracy of the current reporting system. The unique
feature of this app is that it incorporates a collaboration with the neighborhood association
(NA) to help in accelerating the reporting process. This app includes two modes, i.e., regular
user and committee modes, where the users can select their role upon registering the user
account. In the regular user mode, the app consists of several smart features such as camera
and gallery for uploading the proofs, and location detection to ensure the accuracy of the
report. Besides, the report history and service rating are also included in the app to obtain
feedback from the users. For the committee mode, the app contains a new feature, which
allows the NA to check and confirm the report information before sending it to Majlis
Perbandaran. The proposed app has a potential to accelerate the overall process of the reporting
system as it can reduce the possibility of the report redundancy.

Smart Lecture Time Scheduling System

This project introduces a partial autonomous lecture time scheduling system to deliver
information to stakeholders effectively and efficiently by using Google Sheets. The
stakeholders are the faculty timetable department, course director, lecturers and students.
Since the existing manual timetable scheduling process is time-consuming and prone to error,
an alternative solution has been developed by utilizing the built-in functions of Google Sheet.
The proposed system is equipped with a redundancy checking capability that can detect
redundant lecturers and classrooms. Hence, the efficiency of the scheduling process can be
increased as users are not required to manually check the fitness of the timetable anymore.
Besides, the proposed system has the ability to generate the timetables automatically and
distribute them to the students and lecturers via email. Hence, it can save time as users are not
required to distribute the timetable manually. Furthermore, students and lecturers will be
notified immediately via their emails if their timetables are updated so it can overcome the
issue of delay in timetable distribution due to the last-minute finalization of the timetable. The
proposed system also provides a user-friendly Graphical User Interface and guidelines to
increase the user experience. The system developed is currently being tested by the timetable
scheduling department at the School of Electrical Engineering. For future improvement of the
system, there is a future extension to automate the timetable scheduling process based on the
genetic algorithm. This advanced feature can increase the efficiency of the timetable
scheduling process as it will automatically generate suitable timetables.

Smart Fire Detection System

Fire is one of the problems that can be happened at anytime and anywhere. Delay in coping
with fires can induce in loss of human life or material. Thus, a Smart Fire Detection System is
proposed to be implemented by integrating the fire alarm devices, microcontroler and other
complementary devices. Basically, it helps to detect fire at early stage, provides the audible and
visual alarm signals and notify the remote user. An alarm is raised if the sensors detects heat,
smoke, or flame, warns people that there may be a fire and evacuate the premises immediately.
The fire emergency notification is sent to the remote user through the mobile application in
order to notify them. Furthermore, it also helps to reduce false alarms caused by the false-
positive readings of the installed fire alarm systems because it may cause mass panic and
consume firefighters' valuable time and resources. As a result, the smart fire detection system
is proposed to be implemented.

A Low-Cost Real-Time Monitoring and Feeding System Based On ESP32 for The
Aquaculture Industry

Water is the essential medium for fish biological functions to take place. As fish depends
completely on the water for breathing, feeding, development, wastes excretion and
reproduction, understanding water’s physical and chemical qualities is considered critical.
This project presents the development of a portable floating monitoring device based on
ESP32 that works with Arduino IDE to monitor water quality in real-time. The system
provides an automatic feeding mechanism depending on the pH level of the water at a user-
specified time. The system provides an economic monitoring system for small-scale farmers
and the installation is also simple. Contributing to SDG 13, the floating system is constructed
entirely from recycled plastic. Solar cells and lithium batteries are employed to power the
device, resulting in a wireless system. pH sensor ESP32 and temperature sensor DS18B20
monitor the aquaculture water quality parameters. The system is linked to a servo motor and
DS3231 real-time clock module, which are utilised to automate the feeding system at a
predetermined time. The data processing module is ESP32, and a Wi-Fi module is attached to
it to enable communication between the system and the Blynk application. Blynk platform
allows real-time monitoring and is accessible through the user's smartphone. When one of the
parameters is out of range, the system illuminates a red LED. This change may be tracked
through the user's phone. Thus, this system will be beneficial in the small-scale aquaculture
business, assisting in reducing labour intensity and increasing the quality of aquaculture
products via improved water quality.

Mini Gardener
Technology has made remarkable advances in all aspects of life, including industry and
agriculture. Agriculture development has a significant impact on our lives. The trend of
urban farming/gardening employing current technologies is growing among millennials who
want to cultivate fresh greens inside or outside their homes. People in big cities are having
issues with the early phases of care of their homegrown gardens. Most plants are frequently
harmed as a result of environmental factors and a lack of sufficient care. This project has
proposed an automated system for smart gardening system using Arduino, RTC module,
water pump, solenoid valve and L298N motor drive in which the system will automatically
irrigate plants and apply fertilizer or herbicide/pesticide based on soil conditions or a
predetermined schedule. The Arduino UNO would receive data from a soil moisture sensor
and activate a 12V water pump and 12V water solenoid valve, allowing water to flow from a
tank to a sprinkler. The Real Time Module is used for Arduino UNO to turn on the fertilizer
pump at a predetermined schedule based on the user's preferences. Users will be able to
better treat their gardens/plant growth with the help of this technology.

Precision Farming Using IoT
Agriculture is one the sector that plays an important role in the Malaysian economy, where
it was the main force behind the strength and success of the Malaysian economy. In this
new era, Internet of Things (IOT) is one of the major technologies where it is to send,
receive and often act on data which results in many smart IoT things that we can use to
build a more secure, productive, and intelligent world. IoT solutions are focused on helping
the farmers by reducing the need for manual labor, ensuring high yields, profitability , and
protection of the agriculture environment . This project ’s main goal is to have an automatic
irrigation system, monitoring of the crops condition and the surrounding of the crop.
Besides that, there is also an application to keep track of the crops from time to time.
Moreover, we are using the NodeMCU to send the data and receive the information to the
firebase, where then the information will be sent to the application to display the
information regarding the farm. NodeMCU is an open-source platform which can connect
objects and let data transfer using the Wi-Fi protocol. The Firebase Realtime Database lets
you build rich, collaborative applications by allowing secure access to the database directly
from client -side code. This prototype will ease the farmers in Malaysia with their work and
the problems they are facing. In other words, by using this project the farmers can save their
time and cost for their farming process.

Smart Queue Management System in Healthcare Facilities

Most people today are busy with their tight daily schedule. For example, a person who
works a routine 9am-5pm job or a busy businessman both cannot afford to lose one minute of
their life for something that is time-consuming. Sometimes, a patient or a caregiver might end
up spending a whole day in the hospital just to queue for a medical appointment. A need or
demand for a more practical way of booking a doctor’s appointment is voiced out by the
people and it is proven from the survey that we had made. The approaches taken were google
form survey and a google meet online interview. Three categories of respondents regardless of
their age are eligible for the survey’s participation which are healthcare officers, patients, and
caregivers. The survey had proven that most of the respondent’s complaint that they are having
the same problem which involved their satisfaction on the time spend for a single medical
appointment. Plus, some of them complaint about the registration process which was quite
intricated. All in all, the survey’s result had further proven the relevance of the hypothesis.
Thus, the idea of Smart Queue Management System in healthcare facilities is to solve this
recurring problem from happening again in the future. Our project aims to minimize an average
time taken for a patient or a caregiver spends for a medical appointment apart from facilitating
the hospital management by introducing an online doctor appointment booking apps.

Drowning Detection Bracelet

Drowning has been a prominent cause of death throughout history; it is the third most cause of
unexpected death worldwide, accounting for over 1.2 million instances each year. It mostly
affects swimmers, children, and those looking for leisure opportunities. The aim of this project
is to develop an anti-drowning detection device that can monitor or measure oxygen level in
our body, assist the user or lifeguard to track a swimmer by a bracelet and trace the location of
the victim's body if a person has disappeared or drowning. The bracelet is using the max30100
sensor to monitor or measure the blood molecules called haemoglobin that carry in oxygen in
our body and will be displayed the pulse and heart rate on OLED screen. This bracelet often
combines with the GPS feature which can acquire information about the system position and
time under all situations. The purpose of this GPS is to trace the location of the victim's body
has disappeared or drowning. These projects are also linked with our health monitor
application (IoT) and using the NodeMCU ESP32 Module. Meanwhile, the health monitor
application (IoT) is an application that used as an alert notification. This application can be
downloading in smartphone or any device platform. Finally, the anti-drowning detection device
is using a red led to blink when the body's oxygen level is 94% or less than that. The purpose
of the red led is to alert persons who are near to the victim about the individual's condition.

Smart Class Monitoring with Automated Environmental Control

Currently, most educational institutions in Malaysia use conventional mechanisms for

controlling the appliances in their classrooms that may cause waste if not monitored
automatically. The conventional system is based on manual switching on and off by a person
when needed. It suffers from several problems, such as time-consuming, negligence, and
forgetfulness. To overcome those problems, a prototype of a Smart Class Monitoring system
with Automated Environmental Control has been developed. The proposed system is designed
based on the Arduino Uno as a controller system connected to various sensors placed in the
classroom and developed with Node-Red as well as the gateway device. In order to operate the
system, MQTT software applications are used to mediate communication between the devices.
It is simple to use and has a low system requirement. The proposed monitoring system will
help the students to have a conducive environment for the learning process by allowing them to
devote full attention towards their studies without bothering to fiddle with physical switches, as
it will be done automatically by the system.

Smart Recycling Bin

Recycling is defined as the activity of treating materials or products using a special industrial
process so that they can be used again. Recycling is important as it can repurpose used
materials for other applications. Recycling reduces our carbon footprint, increases economic
security and conserves natural resources. However, trash from multiple sources are usually
sorted manually by human labour at one bottleneck point, which reduces recycling process
efficiency. Therefore, we propose the Smart Recycling Bin as the solution for efficient waste
sorting powered by artificial intelligence. Smart Recycling Bin handles waste sorting at the
source points rather than at the recycling plant. The Smart Recycling Bin is able to classify
metal, paper and plastic waste materials and sort them accordingly. Classification is done with
the lightweight MobileNetV2 convolutional neural network model running on the Raspberry PI
4B while the mechanical sorting process is done by 2 servo motors. The Smart Recycling Bin
also includes the trash level detection feature that is performed by ultrasonic sensors. With the
Smart Recycling Bin, we would be able to implement recycling that is more efficient.

The teaching models of smart education are designed to increase the students’ interaction,
collaboration, and engagement. Smart education in the 21st century requires a way of learning
to new generations by including digital literacy. Hence, the Internet of Things (IoT) based
spelling board which is connected to a smartphone application (app) is introduced to enhance
kindergarten kids' learning progress. In this project, a science educational app for kids is
created by using MIT App Inventor. Through this project, kids are able to learn basic science
knowledge by watching the online teaching video and participating in the quiz, which are
designed to enhance their learning process. The user is required to connect the smartphone
through the apps to the spelling board in order to type/press keys for the correct answer which
is shown in the app. Before initializing the quiz section, the user is required to set the IP
address on MIT App Inventor. The IP address is obtained from the Atmega 2560 mounted
with esp2866 module, which acts as a microcontroller for the spelling board. There are ‘ON’
and ‘OFF’ buttons on the app’s screen to connect or disconnect to the WiFi connection,
between the spelling board and smartphone. For the quiz, after pressing the answer, the user
needs to submit the answer and the score will be displayed on the app. Instead of studying
through textbooks and reference books, learning through the combination of educational apps
and the spelling board will be able to improve the quality of learning among the kids.

Library Crowd Detection System

COVID-19 pandemic has affected every human on earth. It is an airborne widespread virus that
has a high risk of being a hive of viral infections especially in enclosed buildings. To reduce
the country's average number of new infections generated by each case, most of the libraries
limit the number of visitors to minimize the spread of the disease. Hence, our project proposed
a library crowd detection system. In this capstone project, a system is designed for the use of a
smart education system, particularly for identifying the number of visitors in the library. The
idea of this project is to develop a phone application where people can check the real-time
crowd level of the library. This system is implemented on MATLAB utilizing computer vision
and image processing toolbox with peopleDetectorACF algorithm to detect people using
aggregate channel features in the real-time video. The data is then saved to Google Sheets as
data collection. From the data in the Google Sheets, the Library Detection System Application
created using MIT App Inventor will retrieve data to be displayed to the user. The application
shows the time, number of people and the crowd status based on the crowd level that has been
set. The system demonstrated in this project helps to ease the students in deciding their journey
before they depart to the library and helps the librarians to check the number of visitors.

Smart Personal Medical Assistant Application

This capstone project aims to develop a simple, easy and smart health app that saves users
waiting time for medical help while tracking their health condition. The main feature of this
application is the smart queue management system at health centres, which enables users to
view live waiting periods and patient count when booking their visit. In booking a visit, users
are given two visiting duration options based on their health condition, and this data will be
used to estimate the waiting period for the subsequent users. Once the booking is made, the
user is given a unique QR code that needs to be scanned at the health centre for confirmation of
arrival. User could have a seamless check-in experience as well as get rid of re-enter the details
upon their arrival. By having this application, it could help to reduce the crowd as the user
could base on the estimation time displayed in the application to decide their time of arrival. At
the same time, this could also reduce the users’ waiting time in the health centre. Besides, this
application has ease the process of making appointment. With just a few click, the appointment
will be successfully made. Last but not least, SOS and health tracker are also available in this
application. The user could always keep track to their health condition and call an ambulance if
there is an emergency situation occurred. The working prototype was successfully developed,
demonstrating the potential to be used in the actual application.

Smart Parking System (SPARKS)

The increasing number of vehicle users causes traffic congestion in public areas such as the
hospital. Users find it challenging to locate available parking spaces which leads to
unnecessary waste of time. As a part of developing smart infrastructures with the goal of
improving parking space management, the Smart Parking System (SPARKS) is proposed.
SPARKS is a contactless parking system that provides real time information about available
parking slots via a mobile application and an onsite parking information LED board. The
system includes the application of automatic parking barriers at designated parking slots for
emergency staff, hospital staff, and special needs visitors and allows them to locate vacant
parking slots in these areas. ESP8266 microcontrollers with WiFi modules are used to control
the servo motors at the entry and exit boom gate as well as to control the activation of the
parking barriers wirelessly. SPARKS provides an alternative to the current parking system
which allows contactless COVID-safe parking via a smart application which leads to time
optimization and reduction in traffic congestion and emissions.

Smart Greenhouse

In early times, a lot of manpower was needed by farmers to manage his farm and work more
than 40 hours per week. Traditional farmers farm based on their experience and farming
beliefs. For residential farmers, the most common problems are insufficient space for
plantation. Due to the modernization of IOT, many devices have been invented that are able to
assemble information on circumstances like humidity, temperature, light intensity and others,
as well as automate the farming process, which make work easier. So, a Smart Greenhouse is
proposed with the integration of sensors (Temperature and humidity sensor, soil moisture
sensor, light intensity sensor), NodeMCU ESP32 and MIT apps. The utilization of sensors
enables farmers to control the best conditions for crops planted, and increase yield. The usage
of MIT apps in hand phones then makes the invention more user-friendly. In apps, users will
be able to monitor the environment through sensor data, and also can switch on and off the
fertilizer and pesticide spray by just a click. Furthermore, users can insert threshold values for
soil moisture and temperature. When the data detected by sensors are out of threshold range, a
notification will be sent to the phone so that the user can take immediate action. Apart from
that, the system can automate the watering process, which in turn reduces man power needed.
Lastly, the layout is 2 levels to solve the space problem. As a result, the smart greenhouse is
proposed to be implemented to solve the problems.

Smart Car Parking System

With the growing number of vehicles on the road and the global population, more parking
spaces and services are needed. However, the shopping malls’ parking slots are limited, drivers
always have to waste time on looking for a parking space and sometime they cannot get one.
This project proposes a parking system called Smart Car Parking System to help drivers
to identify vacant parking places in a car park in less time. In this project, PHP/MySQL will be
used to do the backend & frontend coding works of the local website and 000webhost will be
used to make the website public. The microcontroller NodeMCU is used to detect the
availability of the slot and it also used to make a simple ticket machine. In this project, public
able to check current free slots available using website. Besides, they able to make reservation,
check parking fees and also search for navigation picture to the specify slot. Other than that,
when drivers enter the car park, they can choose to park at normal parking slot or slot specially
for female drivers. Based on their decision, the ticket machine will suggest the slot that nearest
to the mall entrance to them. With this system, drivers can secure a slot by making reservation.
Moreover, the recommendation of slot can save drivers’ time on searching for a parking space.

Bus Live Transition

People rely on public transportation in their daily lives, and any transportation issues can
significantly impact them in aspects of customer experience, efficiency, fraud and security, and
so on. Access to information for public transportation is critical, whether it is the time of
arrival, the availability status, facility or the route to solve these problems. Hence, public
transportation system can be improved by allowing bus users to access online bus schedules
and know the real-time bus current status. Service and facility information are available for
special needs users such as the disabled and elderly. We propose a Bus Live Transition mobile
app that focuses solely on data processing and user interface. A user interface (UI) is well-
known to be one of the most important components of an information system (IS). Bus live
Transition app can let users know the availability of the bus for their desired destination. Our
mobile app can also estimate the time of arrival for the available buses from other bus stops to
your current bus stop. The system would also show the current bus route and the facility of the
desired bus for special needs bus users. This project uses Thunkable as a tool platform to
develop the application. Therefore, our developed application can make bus users better plan
for their journey.

Pocket Revisor

In the current secondary education system, there is lack of implementation of technology to

enhance students’ learning. Based on our findings through interview and data collection
focusing on secondary school students, they often suffer from distractions which lead to poor
focus during the lessons. In addition, they find it difficult to memorize certain topics which
affect their motivation to learn. The engagement between the teachers and students during class
has become the top priority in order to increase the students’ interests in learning. Pocket
Revisor is a device designed for students to retain information that they have just learned for
subjects which require a lot of readings and memorisation. This device encourages healthy
competition among students while doing revision. Teachers are able to keep record on their
respective students’ performance after the revision. It can be used as a measuring tool to
improve their teaching approach and delivery. Pocket Revisor is flexible as it allow students to
self-code the device for their own use which exposes them with Internet-of-Things (IoT)
related technologies. The device is battery powered which increase its mobility. Each device is
able to prompt quiz questions for 2 students to compete and answer. The scores of these 2
students will be sent to the database via WiFi for the teachers to monitor the performance of
their students. Pocket Revisor is able to enhance students’ interest in their studies and improve
the engagement between teachers and students in class.

Health Care Monitoring System

Nowadays, people are going from place to place either for better job opportunities or for higher
education. People used to live together with their families and it was easy for them to monitor
their parents’ needs. However, children nowadays mostly are staying away from their parents’
homes, which makes it difficult for them to take care of their elderlies. Our project aims to make
a health monitoring system to monitor elderlies in real-time from different places. This device, a
smart watch which allows the children to have access through a mobile application to their
parents’ health condition from the sensing device to their smartphones. The sensing device which
will be worn on the elderlies’ wrist will detect their oxygen level, heart rate and step count and
the reading of the parameters will be sent to a cloud that can be accessed from a mobile
application. The mobile application contains parents’ profiles that need to be filled by the users.
The application will show the reading of heart rate, SpO2 level and steps count sensed by the
smart watch. For medicine consumption monitoring, parents need to fill the medicine
consumption on the application based on the medicine taken for the day. The children then can
monitor their parents’ medicine consumption from the application. The sensing device utilises
MAX30100, ADXL 3-Axis, Arduino Nano, ESP8266, LiPo battery, slide switch and LED. The

CAPTIOSUS rəˈvēl: Real-Time Food Inventory and Storage Monitoring System

This project proposes a system that can help food supplier to manage and monitor inventory
and storage system. Inventory management is important to improve cash flow. When applying
a proper inventory management, the money of the business is rolled accordingly and spent on
merchandise that are demanded. Besides, an excellent inventory management will prevent
overstock and understock. Which in return, this will ensure the customer to be happy as they
do not have to wait for the things, they want to buy in the same time acquiring good quality
product. As for the storage, favourable condition is vital in keeping the freshness of foods,
especially raw ingredients. In this project storage of vegetable is considered. To monitor the
freshness of the vegetables, temperature, humidity level and concentration of carbon dioxide
(CO ) gas and methane gas (CH ) are constantly measured and sent to an IoT analytics platform
2 4

(i.e. Thingspeak). DHT22 is used for temperature and humidity sensing. Level of CO and 2

CH , which are are measured by using MQ5 sensor, indicates the freshness of the vegetable.
4

Besides of the sensors, the system also detects the opening of the storage door. This is to
ensure that the storage is kept close when it is not in use. Users can monitor the condition in
the smart storage by using an apps developed using MIT app inventor. The apps also provide a
solution for inventory management. In the app, types of products, quantity of product in and
out, price of the product and supplier details can be stored. This is expected to be more
practical alternative to the conventional inventory system where they used to write them
manually on an inventory book. In a nut shell, this smart system may help small business
owner with keeping in track of their inventory system in the same time be aware of the
freshness of their goods.

IoT based Smart Farm Monitoring & Management System for Durian Plantation
ABSTRACT (Times New Roman, 11 pt, justify. Maximum 250 words)
The aim of the project is to design and develop a functional prototype for a smart based
agriculture system. The prototype developed aims for solving farmer issues relating to durian
farms. The solution proposed featuring the use of Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor and
record the data of the durian farm. This is particularly useful when the farm owner was away
and wanted constant monitoring of his durian farm. The main features of our proposed solution
for smart agriculture application is the use of mobile applications that can view data on the
environment of the farm such as weather, soil moisture, temperature and humidity. In addition,
the use of IoT enables the owner to receive notification when the tree is attacked by monkeys.
The prototype is also built in with lights that can be controlled using the mobile apps. The
vibration sensor is used to detect the durian falls on the net and this is also viewable in the
mobile apps. An outstanding feature of our proposed design is the logging pages which become
a one stop platform to record the number of durian falls in each tree. Apart from that, the load
sensor can be used to weight the durians allowing the recording to be done. All the data is
exported to google spreadsheet synchronously. The smart agriculture system presented is inline
with digital development in Malaysia.

Smart Parking System
Nowadays it has become very difficult for students to find parking spot at their campus
especially in dormitory area. With the help of Smart Parking System, the user can save their
time and fuel to find a parking spot that’s available in the current area. In this project, we are
building a smart parking system using NodeMCU and IR sensors. IR sensors are used to
detect the availability of the parking spot. We also provide an application (app) for the user
which helps them to find a parking spot that is still available. The app will also show the live
position of the parking slot based on the availability. For real-time data, we use Google
Firebase while for the application, we used MIT App Inventor to develop an Android app.
The real-time database is used to show the live position of the parking slot in the Android
app. Furthermore, we provide the users of the smart parking system a booking system
application. This application will receive the data from the sensor through the real-time
database and shows the user the location of the available parking slots. In the application, the
parking slot will show three statuses, which are “AVAILABLE” (green), “RESERVED”
(blue) and “OCCUPIED” (red). For first time user, they need to register for a new account.
Then, the user needs to log into his/ her account to reserve a parking spot. The user can
select his/ her desired parking slot among the green boxes (available parking slots) and set
a period he/she wants to park. The unit for the period is in hour and minute. After selecting
the desired spot and setting the parking period, the user clicks on the confirm button.
Once the user reserves the parking slot successfully, the status of the parking slot will turn
blue (RESERVED) in the application. The status of the parking slot in the application will
turn red when the user park his/her car in the slot, indicating the slot is occupied. The status
of the parking slot will turn green (available) when the slot is empty, and the parking period
counts out. If the user leaves the parking slot earlier than the period set, the period count will
be reset automatically. However, if the time he/she park exceeds the period set, he/she will
be charged as accordingly/ a penalty.

A1 Tower

Agriculture is undoubtedly one of the neediest industries that requires continuous non-
stop of supplies. It is an industry whether small or big is being run everywhere. While
people are starting to harvest on their own for a living, technologies are being implied
to the mass industry to produce better harvest and efficient work rate with maximum
success. This has impacted the small-time farmers, not being able to coop-up with the
rising use of technology in agriculture due to modal issues. Our team who understood
the situation came up with an idea of the “A1 Tower “. A smart tower which is also
budget friendly that could help the farmers bring their farming up to the next level. Our
smart tower focuses on the basic needs that fulfils the criteria of a good farm. Our
tower consists of few sensors such as soil moisture sensor and a Passive Infrared (PIR)
sensor. These sensors would let the farmers posted on the condition of the soil to make
sure the crops grow healthily cause the soil is the base of a good plant. The PIR sensor
is used to detect motion nearby so the crops won’t be bothered by any insects or
animals. The A1 tower is also powered by a solar panel which is a cleaner source of
energy to ensure everyone strive for a greener ecosystem. We’ve also attached a Wi-Fi
module that would alarm the farmers on any unusual readings through their
applications in their mobile devices. The farmers will also be alerted by the LED’s and
buzzers programmed to the tower. All these sensors are programmed using
ARDUINO.

Smart Attendance with Temperature Detection

For our design, our idea is to reduce the time consuming on measuring the temperature and
taking attendance of students. If the number of students is less, then it should not be a problem
as it will not take a lot of time to take the attendance and temperature. Therefore, our design
will help the teacher save a lot of time and make it more efficient. At the same time also
implement smart feature products in school. Our design, mainly, is to record the attendance and
measure the temperature at the same time. We used infrared sensors to measure the
temperature and take the attendance of students by using RFID technology. Then, we will use
nodemcu as our microcontroller and some other components (such as buzzer and LCD screen)
as the indicator of our design.Hence, when students enter the school, they will use the RFID
tag to scan their attendance and at the same time the infrared sensor also able to measure the
temperature of the student. Once the students scan the RFID tag, the buzzer will make a sound,
indicating the attendance of students has been recorded. Meanwhile the LCD screen will
display the temperature of students once the infrared sensor detects the temperature of students.

E-Canteen

A school canteen is a place where food is provided to the students, teachers, school staff and
more. Nowadays, technology is becoming more advanced so, smart canteen projects by using
Arduino can help to fulfil the needs of students, teachers, school staff, and canteen staff. The
purpose of having a smart canteen system is to make food ordering system at school canteen
become smoother by focusing on the problems faced by the students and the management of
school canteen such as food wastage, having difficulties returning money for the students, the
limited number of food varieties at the canteen, long queue and didn’t know the menu of food
for the next day. This system is consisting of two systems in which students, teacher, and
school staff can place their ordered one day before they go to school by using the E-Canteen
apps and another one is when students, teacher, and school staff place their order at the school.
It means when they ordered their food, the cashier will send the ordered food to the kitchen by
using TFT LCD Touch. This is due to the long distance from the cashier to the kitchen as well
as it can save their time. Hence, the canteen staff at the kitchen can see the menu delivered
from the cashier by using RF Receiver. RF receiver is used to receive the data from the
transmitter section, and the LCD module is used to display the received data.

Shop SOP Covid-19 Monitoring System

Due to sudden covid-19 pandemic all shops required to follow the regulation SOP. Most shops
are already used to the rules but have difficulties making sure the number of customers inside
the shop are not too crowded ever since the regulation SOP was loosened. Our project aims to
make a monitoring system to ensure customers follow the SOP regulation like mask and shop
barcode scanning while keeping the limit for the number of customers before they are allowed
to enter a shop. This device allowed shop owners to keep track of the number of customers
visited since the monitoring system displayed the number of customers in and out of the shop. It
is able to detect customers entering the shop within 2 sec from a distance between 2cm to
400cm. The distance can be adjusted depending on the width of the shop. The customer will
have to enter their name and scan their mask with the shop barcode provided by the apps which
will indicate when customers are allowed to enter the shop. The device utilizes 2 ultrasonic
sensors with LEDs, ESP32 microcontroller, LCD with I2C display and 2 ESP32-CAM.
However, it did not include the temperature scanner in assumption most shops already had their
own temperature scanner.

Smart Stress Sensor (STRESSBLESS)

Stress is one of the mental health problems that related to human emotions. Delay in handling
stress can lead to anxiety and depression especially students. Thus, Smart Stress Sensor is
proposed by integrating the sensors such as the pulse sensor, galvanic skin response sensor and
accelerometer sensor to the Arduino, and NodeMCU ESP32. Basically, the device helps to
detect stress at early stage, provides the stress level (low, mild & high), visual stress signals
and notify the apps user. An LED is lit up if the sensors detect high stress level classification
based on the sleep hours, heart rate and sweat amount and will remind users that they need to
take some stress reduction measures. The emergency notification can be sent to the remote user
or close contacts through the mobile application in order to notify them. Furthermore, this
device is hoped to be able to help regulate emotion to avoid severe mental illness.

IoT-Based Waste Bin Management System

Waste management has grown to be a major concern. As a result of the lack of efficient waste
management, there have been serious environmental consequences, such as overflowing
wastebins that have allowed animals and pests to invade garbage bags. Therefore, this project
contributes to the design and development of a smart green environment garbage monitoring
system by measuring the garbage level in real time and alerting the appropriate authorities
when the bin is overflowing with garbage. Among the components of the proposed system are
ultrasonic sensors that measure garbage level, a force sensitive resistor that acts as a
pushbutton to open the cover, and a NodeMCU microcontroller that controls system
operation, all of which will be connected via a database. This work demonstrates a system
that allows waste management to monitor the level of garbage depth within a dustbin based
on the level of garbage depth within the dustbin. The system displays the status of the garbage
bin through an LCD and an online database in real time, allowing the data to be saved for
future use and analysis, such as predicting when the garbage bin will reach its maximum
capacity. It is anticipated that this system will help to create a more friendly environment by
intelligently monitoring and controlling garbage collection through the Internet of Things.

Solid waste is a problem that keeps on increasing as the population grows. Proper waste
management is one solution which would help maintain and solve many unwanted problems.
Since population increases the consumption in selected college indirectly increased to the
quantity of wastes generated. This paper presents a solution on waste management can be
monitored in real time to keep track of the capacity of the bins using mobile application
created. The proposed system will allow student and staff to be updated in the mobile
application regarding the level of garbage. At the same time our system features include a
precaution feature using buzzer and switch to make sure the bin is closed always. The mobile
application will notify with the bin is full allowing garbage collector to prioritise the bin to be
collected first. When the bin is full, a notification is sent to the phone through the application
as an alert. The proposed system consists of ultrasonic sensor to measure the volume of the

Smart Hydroponic System

Nowadays, there are many hi-tech applications that develops due to the demands of human.
Therefore, it will be better if there is a system that can help to take care of the plants to save
the time and reduce the manpower. This paper present the development of a system help in
plant growing. Water forms over 90% of the plant body by green or fresh weight basis. Water
helps plant in cooling down the plant through evaporation, enable photosynthesis process to
produce food and enable transpiration for nutrient absorption. Since water is important for
plant growth, it will be better to ensure water supply to plants all the time. Hence, this project
will show the use of soil moisture sensor YL-69 to provide signal to the microcontroller
Arduino Nano to control the pump that helps in water supplying. Besides, plant still requires
some essential mineral elements like potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen to growth faster and
healthier. Actually, these mineral can be provided by the soil organisms after digesting those
organic substances but the nutrient supply may be limited by the quantity of the organism by
the soil and the amount of nutrients produced unable to managed. Therefore, it will be better
to supply the Industrial fertilizers that can be directly absorbed by plant. This project shows
us the application solenoid valves and water flow sensors to control the volume of AB
fertilizer supplied to the plants. Since soil is the medium plant growth, its parameter directly
affects the growth of plant. For instance, soil temperature need to be properly managed as it
will affect the nutrient absorbing rate of plant. Plant can growth well at 18-24 °C as this
optimum soil temperature range enable most soil organism to function well, prevent the water
in soil to evaporate faster and ensure aeration of soil. Therefore, DS18B20 waterproof
temperature sensor was used to measure the soil temperature. In this era of technology, it is
found that most of us have the smart phone. Therefore, it is important for our project to have
the ability to transfer the data to smart phone wireless to ensure the convenience of the user.
Hence, the plant condition like soil humidity and soil temperature will be able to transfer to
smartphone through Bluetooth module HC05.

back door. There are some interesting features on the Cocoon. A large light weighted
compressor is used to compress the waste inside the garbage bin to save space for waste
disposal. Stepper mechanism with sliding door and magnetic lock system used for users to
throw their waste into the garbage bin. There will be indicators such as LED and buzzer for
user safety purpose. IR sensors used at the opening door to detect user’s hand or any garbage
is stuck, so it would not proceed to closing the door. PIR sensor which is located inside the
housing to detect any movement such as animals accidentally entered in before proceed to

Aquaponic farming is an important technological advance in agricultural cultivation. In

indoor systems, light, temperature, and humidity can be controlled for the plants' needs.
Aquaponic technology is enhanced by the Internet of Things, since sensor and actuator data
can be accessed using a smartphone app from anywhere. Growing crops without farmland is
possible using agricultural cultivation technology, specifically aquaponic cultivation.
Moreover, it may continue to engage in economic activities that provide food or revenue. In
this project, soil moisture, pH levels, water levels, and temperature are controlled. In addition
to monitoring all of these parameters, SmartQuaDro offers a mobile application. The tilapia
fish waste can provide ammonia to plants, since nitrite is converted into nitrite and then to
nitrogen, which is then converted to nutrients. Using available and recent technology, a new

with the extensive ability to avoid obstacles. This feature has allowed researchers to explore
the feasibility of implementing the vast capabilities of tracking people in a shopping centre.
When encountered with obstacles in a big store, the shopping cart would be able to avoid

Smart Rainwater Management System

In Malaysia, the occurrence of rainfall is very abundant and frequent since our country is
located north of the equator, the climate is equatorial which makes it hot, humid and rainy
throughout the year. For the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, from 2500 to 3000 mm of rain
falls per year. As for the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the rains are less abundant which
range from 1800 to 2500 mm. Due to the high rainfall frequency in Malaysia, implementing a
rainwater harvesting system would bring a lot of benefits particularly in replacing the
municipal water in some of our daily activities to help in water conservation. Therefore, we
decided to develop a smart rainwater management system to monitor the quality and water
level of the harvested rainwater to make sure its safety and availability for activities such as
gardening or irrigation. The system will provide us with the information of the water level,

encountered by shoppers and retailers in the grocery industry. Smart-shelf is designed to
tackle those problems faced. The features included an electronic price tag that connected to
the database. Any price changes on the products inserted into the database will be reflected
immediately on the electronic price tag. Paper price tags could produce almost 120,000 tonnes
of waste per year. Implementation of electronic price tags promotes environmentally friendly
concepts by reducing the environmental footprint of retailers significantly. A user-friendly
online database that enabled a real-time stock update on the product shelf would remind
retailers about low stock inventory on the product shelf. Retailers could restock the product
on the shelf at the right time to reduce potential sales loss due to the product being out of
stock on the product shelf. Small and compact product information on the food packaging
increases the difficulty of reading for the elderly. A product QR code would be attached to the

Sustainability of Rainwater Harvesting System for Gardening

This paper formulates a rainwater harvesting system (RWHS) that can be used for gardening
purposes. The gathering of water volume from raindrops is known as rainwater harvesting.
Rainwater collecting was the principal source of water supply for both portable and
nonportable usage in the past since water conveyance systems were not employed for water
distribution in the past. Moreover, the rainwater collection method was easy and primary as it
was mostly collected from roofs. For this project, the rainwater is being collected by the

STEP-IT (Bin for Human)

UTM KDOJ residence area are facing waste collector service problem in which the rubbish
bins provided are always full and monkeys always ransack the rubbish in every floor and
main collecting area causing the dirty environment. Some study and research were made and
finally come out with the solution. In order to solve this problem, we design a housing for the
rubbish bin which consist of smart locking mechanism to prevent the monkey from scatter the
rubbish anywhere. This housing can be implemented in every floor or outside of the resident
area. Students just need to step on the paddle to throw the rubbish. Furthermore, the housing
is equipped with led indicators to indicate the dustbin availability for every floor. So, students
will know which level rubbish bin is still available if the rubbish bin in that level already full.
Red led indicator will light up when the rubbish bin is full. By this, we hope that it can solve
the waste collector problem faced by KDOJ resident area.

Rubbish collection is important in our daily basis to keep the environment clean. However,
the traditional rubbish collection could waste time and energy, especially for the cleaners.
Some would have to go back and forth just to check each bin’s level of rubbish and took out
the rubbish where the bins are full only. It is very crucial to have a system that could notify
the cleaners easily so that they would only go to the bins that are full. We develop a simple
system for the cleaners to indicate the rubbish level in each bin.

Solar Portable Mini Air Cooler

Surrounding air can be cooled down by a simple evaporative cooling concept, where water is
used as the evaporation source. Compared to an air-conditioner, air cooler is very budget-
friendly, smaller, and simply portable. Typically, in the market, portable air cooler needs to be
filled with water in a small tank, has an on/off button, provides 3 speed options, and is
directly sourced from the electricity socket. In this capstone project, the features have been
upgraded by adding the Bluetooth technology, timer function, water, and battery level
indicator and available in larger size, but still portable. With HC-05 Bluetooth module, user
can control the air cooler on his/her smartphone wirelessly. Timer can be set up depends on
user’s need, water and battery levels also can be displayed/monitored. By enlarging the cooler
dimension, more water can be filled to provide longer operational time and cooler
temperature. To improve product’s privileges, this product has been expanded with a charging
function from a PV panel. Arduino Uno microcontroller board has been used as the main
brain to control all the embedded functions. To test the system functionality, Tinker CAD
software has been used. Meanwhile, app inventor software has been used to integrate the
mobile apps with the product. From the project implementation and operational tests, it has
been found that the new model of a solar portable air cooler has been successfully developed.
It is expected that this new product could create a more comfortable environment while
enjoying cooling device with less energy consumption.

Electrical Basic Theories Quiz on Board

Electrical engineering is regarded as one of the most important engineering disciplines. Most
engineering fields have studied the concept of electrical basic theories in their fundamental
year. Besides learning through textbooks, there is an increasing tendency among educators
and scholars towards the game-based learning (GBL) and gamification. With this remark, this
paper proposes an educational board namely as "Electrical Basic Theories Quiz on Board"
with the intention to facilitate both teaching and learning experiences on electrical basic
theories alongside series and parallel resistance circuit connection. The overall architecture is
a quiz board interface with an android-based application that connects to it through
NodeMCU WiFi module. The android-based application is used to display the pre-design quiz
questions. In the end, user needs to do their own hand-calculation in order to find out the
corresponding resistor and complete the circuit connection on the board. The board with the
aid of microcontroller will then evaluate the input from the user and provide the feedback to
the user via the led indication and app display. The NodeMCU ESP32 development board,
LED RGB, resistors, and female headers are the basic components of this electrical
educational kit.

Mini Hydro UTM Lake

Hydropower is one of the main renewable energy in Malaysia. It is a type of energy that
utilizes the power of moving water such as water flowing from the waterfall that propels the
turbine which in turn runs a generator to generate electricity. This project aims to explore this
possibility and make use of Tasik Ilmu, UTM Lake to build mini hydropower. By using
sufficient power rating of the generator, it is possible to light up its surroundings, street lights
especially in the parking lots and students will feel safe to conduct more events. Specifically,
this project explores this concept by using a small water turbine to generate the electricity
then storing the energy in a rechargeable battery to light up a small surrounding area at night.
The development of Internet of Things(IoT) energy monitoring system were used to monitor
the energy usage by using non invasive current sensor, voltage sensor, light sensor and ESP32

Smart Agriculture Sensor System

Agriculture is one of a country's most important economic sectors. As an emerging

technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) is set to improve the agriculture industry. Technology
allows monitoring, recording, and managing the smart agriculture system with intelligent
information to provide the best possible service to the users. The proposed smart agriculture
sensor system uses the soil moisture sensor and temperature sensor to determine the plants'
condition that assists users in watering the plant effectively. This system uses wired and
wireless connections to communicate between the sensors, microcontroller and internet. With
the NodeMCU microcontroller being part of the system, the system was designed to monitor
the moisture level and surrounding temperature. Soil moisture sensors sense the moisture
levels in the soil while the temperature sensor detects surrounding temperature. If the soil
moisture and temperature level are below the threshold level, the system will notify the user
to water the plant. The system collects all the information and data linked with the
ThingSpeak as a cloud where it is stored and then communicates with the Kodular
application. The water pump can turn on and off concerning the soil moisture levels and
temperature. Hence, a smart agriculture system with intelligent information can assist the user
and save human works.

Smart Lighting System in Building

Our project focuses on improving the lighting system in the faculty. The pain points from our
respondents, mostly students, are unlit lights in the faculty that cause anxiety or fears among
the students, electric wastage and exact location of switches are unknown because there are
too many switches. Our solution for these pain points is to design an app that is able to switch
on and off the lights along the path. To avoid electricity wastage, there is a timer feature in
the app that the user can flexibly set the duration of lights on. To be a friendly user app, the
user can choose the path that he wants the lights to turn on. What he needs to do is key in his
current location and destination location, aka path. Then the lights will turn on along that
path. To integrate between the app and the system, the module that we use is ESP32 which
has a Wifi function embedded in the microcontroller. The app and the ESP32 are integrated
through Wifi, that means the user needs to connect his smart phone to the ESP32 using the
same Wifi coverage. With this app, the lighting system in the faculty can be more flexible and
solve the pain points.

Global warming is increasing year after year in today's society. There are numerous reasons
for this, including pollution, deforestation, water contamination, and so on. A thermoelectric
system was used to develop a study on solar portable mini fridge goods. The use of a
photovoltaic system with a battery to produce cooling at a very low temperature is proposed
in this study. For modest capacity portable systems located in places without access to
conventional energy sources, this strategy is the most viable and appropriate option. This
study also aims to improve the fridge's Effective Utilization of Energy Resources system by
using solar as a power source in conjunction with a lithium battery, as well as making it more
convenient for consumers to operate the fridge effectively and pleasantly. The system is built
using a thermoelectric cooling module and an Arduino UNO to improve on existing solutions.

Covid-19 SOP Monitoring System

Starting from December 2019, Covid-19 has been spread rapidly in the worldwide. World
Health Organization (WHO) determined that this is a hazardous virus that may be transmitted
from humans to people via droplets and airborne transmission. While it comes to preventive,
Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) have construct Covid-19 standard order procedures
(SOPs) in order to reduce the transmission. Wearing a mask in shopping mall have become an
ordinary practice of people nowadays. However, there is still some reckless people, on the
other hand, refuse to wear a face mask for a variety of reasons. Therefore, we propose the
Covid-19 SOPs monitoring system for the effort of Covid-19 prevention. The monitoring
system is able to detect whether the shopping mall visitor is wearing mask or not by using a
computer vision based on face mask detector. Restriction to enter shopping mall is applied to
those without wearing mask by using a servo-motor controlled gate with Arduino UNO as the
microcontroller. This system will ask the visitor to wear the mask by displayed in the LCD
display as well as give a warning to the user by turning on the red LED if the visitor is not
wearing mask. The system also include the hand sanitizer sensor when the hand’s user was
detected before entering the mall to reduce the transmission of Covid-19 virus.

Solar-Rain Harvesting Hybrid Generator

As busy university students who face the Covid-19 pandemic situation, we always spend a
very long time using gadgets such as laptops or smartphones in hostels to access online
classes or deal with assignments. However, the power supply of hostels is often
unpredictable. Blackouts happen frequently due to bad weather conditions such as heavy
storms or due to maintenance work. To help the students who need to submit assignments on
time or attend important lessons during this critical situation, a Solar-Rain Harvesting Hybrid
Generator is introduced. During a hot sunny day, the system will collect the light intensity
using a solar panel and generate electricity to be stored in the battery. Students can use the
battery to charge gadgets during emergency situations. Since Malaysia is a tropical country
with wet seasons, light intensity is not always enough to supply with the charging of batteries.
Hence, the rain harvesting system is installed as a backup of the solar system during rainy
days. The Rain harvesting system implements the concept of Benoulli’s equation, which
increases water pressure by increasing height and water volume to drive the water turbine to
generate electricity. Water level in the system can be monitored using applications for
maintenance works. The Solar-Rain Harvesting Hybrid Generator utilises fully green
renewable energy resources that can be obtained easily in Malaysia. We try to determine the
possibilities by analysing the rain drop over Malaysia and sunlight intensity all over a day.

Solative: i-Home Smart Energy Monitoring and Controlling System

Home is undeniably the place where we spent most time in, more so during the covid-19
pandemic. Our homes’ energy usage is eventually increased; hence an alternative energy
source, which is solar energy, would be splendid to reduce our electric bills. This is
achievable with the help of solar panels to harvest solar energy, and batteries to store those
energy. Furthermore, the implementation of a monitoring and control system in the form of a
phone app enables the tenant to easily see and control which equipment are powered on or off
in real time. By using an Internet of Things (IoT) platform such as Blynk, the tenant is able to
‘talk’ to the home energy control system directly with ease using a user-friendly interface.
Since the sun is a decent resource of alternative energy to power our homes, the prototype
aims to harvest, monitor and use the energy at the user’s will in order to realise the goal –
Effective Utilisation of Energy Resources. Besides solar panel, the other hardware includes
Arduino Uno, ESP8266 WiFi, PZEM energy monitor, 12V DC to 220V AC inverter and

Automated Smart Locker Security System

A smart locker system is a storage solution usually found in theme parks, hospitals, offices,
and even parcel delivery systems. It comprises an integrated technology that ensures secure,
convenient, and reliable storage solutions that users have trusted. Nowadays, due to
conventional lockers that have been used in the college and secured using keylocks, college
students often face problems such as losing and misplacing their keys which prevent them
from opening their lockers easily. Several undesirable theft occurrences have happened,
which has led to a social problem and a less secure environment on the campus. Therefore, an
Automated Smart Locker Security System was proposed to solve the issues commonly
experienced by college students. The objective of this project is to develop a locker that is
secure and convenient. The Automated Smart Locker Security System features are biometrics
recognition and an automated lock system. Face recognition and fingerprint scanner were
used as biometrics recognition to ensure that only the locker's owner can open the locker. For
the automated lock system, a solenoid lock was used to automatically open and close the door
after the user's biometrics were recognized. A wireless keypad has been applied to give users'
relatives the authority to unlock the locker for any unexpected situation. To conclude, an
Automated Smart Locker System improves college's conventional lockers, making the locker
more secure, convenient, and safe as a storage solution.

HVAC system stands for heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and cooling. This system
provides cooling and heating to residential and commercial buildings. A Smart HVAC system
leverages networked HVAC components to other technologies such as internet-of-things. The
purpose of having Smart HVAC system is to have a system that is automatically updated in a
building, keeps everything properly cooled, saves money, and reduces the risk of energy
misuse. Lower technological prices and the growing availability of wireless technologies have
made obtaining sensor readings for different HVAC components more affordable than ever
before. Furthermore, recent advances in data storage and cloud computing enable building
operators to access a wide range of HVAC data points, including temperature, pressure, flow
rate, and gas concentration. For this project, the air convection theory is applied to ensure
constant air circulation in a laboratory. The temperature of air going out through the return
vent must be cooler than the air coming in from the supply vent. By maintaining the
temperature difference, the air convection is introduced. To ensure systematic air circulation,
the warm air comes in and the cold air goes out. Humidity is also considered as a variable in
this project. If the humidity reaches lower than 40%, the mist spreader will be turned on.
Other than that, students in the laboratory will receive notifications for alert or evacuation
warning if the condition in the lab reaches the level with the most risk. The notifications will
be sent through the internet-of-things medium.

they are switched off on the electronic interface or in stand-by mode. Standby power is
consumed by electrical appliances because they are in the process of waiting to turn on or to
standby to function. The most common users of standby power are multifunction printer,
televisions, video equipment, devices with continuous digital display such as microwave oven
and heating devices such as iron, kettle and oven. Although the standby power is small but the
cumulative total is significant. The standby power is also calculated into the total power usage
and it must be paid for. The article claims that 3% to 10% of the electricity bill is caused by
the standby power. So, an energy saving and monitoring product has been proposed to
overcome this problem. Arduino and ESP32 are function as controller for smart adapter to
operate with current sensor and relay. Smart adapter will function with the Blynk app to
monitor the energy consumption of the appliance in kWh and RM. Besides, through smart
adapter, the electricity supply can be cut down temporally by relay and the notification will be
sent to user if the appliance is not in use.

Monitored changeover switching system between standalone PV and grid supply

The sun is the main source of all alternative energy on the surface. Electricity generation from
photovoltaic panels is clean and green with no charges applied. Electric bills can be reduced,
and a stable power supply could be established by utilizing 46% of the solar radiation daily.
Solar energy is chosen as it is available virtually all year and it provides a more predictable
output than wind energy even though we are behind capturing this free vast amount of energy
produced by nature. This monitoring and switching system between the grid supply and the
standalone photovoltaic system is used to ensure the sustainability of our environment as
there is no harmful greenhouse gas emission. The voltage, current, and power of the PV
panel, solar battery, and load are monitored via a series of sensors. Sensors are interfacing
with NodeMCU via Wi-Fi where all the readings will be displayed on an application named
Blynk. The switching between grid supply and the photovoltaic system is semi-automatic
where the user can define which system can be used. One of the systems would be acting as a
backup when another system is supplying electricity to the load. Batteries are implemented to
ensure power supply when solar radiation is not available.

Smart Perimeter Fencing (SPF)

Perimeter protection acts as the first line of defence to detect an intruder. Smart Perimeter
Fencing (SPF) is an automated security system that will be implemented in a farm. It has the
capability of sensing the motion of the intruders and sending the notifications as well as the
pictures of intruders to users. The prototype is developed using Arduino UNO, ESP32, ESP32
camera, motion sensor, laser sensor module, photoresistive sensor module, buzzer and
DHT11. Data retrieved from the sensors will be transmitted via WiFi and the results such as
temperature and humidity can be viewed in the phone applications. Users also can monitor the
farm’s conditions and report the crime or incident to law enforcement agency immediately
even though they stay far from the farm. By applying the technology of Internet of Things
(IoT), users are able to communicate with the system in which they can control the buzzer by
turning it on or off through the applications.

UTM Automatic Security System

This paper is to improve the security system in UTM. A model framework was developed to
assess existing conditions. According to the status quo, there are security guards at each gate
of UTM. However, half of the respondents think that the current security system cannot
ensure their safety. Hence, our aim is to increase safety by adding some security system in
each block as according to the survey, almost 80% of the respondents choose the residential
college as the best place to add the security system. The security system was developed to
improve safety of the staff and students. It was an automatic security system. It combined
three types of security systems which are fingerprint scanner, RFID scanner, and password
inserted. During the survey, we found that there are many strangers in UTM. Hence, with the
combination of the three type security system, it can distinguish between residents and
visitors. The result shows how the security system functions and how it can be applied in the
block of the colleges. Economic analysis shows the cost of the components used to create the
prototype.

Thermo electric Generator - Mobile Device Charger

Energy conversion using wasted heat is one of the applications of thermoelectric generator
technologies. It’s utilization in the alternative energy industry is attempted from many
aspects. Thermoelectric generators (TEG) are semiconductor-based devices that use heat to
produce electricity. A thermoelectric generator can also be called as Seebeck generator. The
thermoelectric effect is the direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage
and also vice versa via a thermocouple. A thermoelectric device of invention creates a voltage
when there is a different temperature on each side. The energy that will be stored can be used
in many applications such as to power and recharge mobile devices. This paper proposes to
build a prototype of thermoelectric generator mobile device charger which will use thermo-
electric cooler IC (peltier device). The two sides of the Peltier device will give the
temperature difference which are used to generate electricity to charge mobile devices. This
project is mainly created for the hikers to charge and power their mobile devices in a place
with no electricity. It will be much helpful for the long duration hiking activities. Figure 1:
