[COURSE INFORMATION]
Operations and Production are the resources and the processes, respectively, by which an
organization transforms inputs (e.g., labor, material, and knowledge) into outputs (products
and/or services). Operations/production managers are responsible for designing, running, and

improving the related systems to efficiently deliver on the production/service goals. This course

focuses on the basic concepts and tools employed by operations/production managers to
provide their organizations with competitive advantages in terms of operations strategy, process
design, quality, supply chain management, and resource planning and utilization.

PREREQUISITE No specific prerequisite for this course, but an understanding of college-level algebra preferred

Dr. Yusoon Kim is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain & Logistics Management at the College
of Business at Oregon State University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in
Operations Management and Supply Chain/Logistics Management Strategies. Dr. Kim’s primary
research areas include supply network dynamics/strategies, buyer-supplier relationship; supply chain
risks, disruptions, and resilience; complexity and systems theories, and embeddedness perspectives

to supply chain management. His research has been published or is being in print in various top-tier
academic journals in production/operations/SCM and general management such as Journal of
