Pret-a-Porter
Pret – A – Porter

A french term that literally means READY TO WEAR.

The concept of ready to wear includes

 Wide range production of designs in varying sizes
intended to be worn as is without the significant need
to alter or fit it to the consumer.
 Pret-a-Porter was a movement from consumers that
wanted fashion but accessible in terms of price and
design.
Pret – A – Porter

The rise of pret a porter moved with the shift of fashion

from Paris to London and the US.

1966, Yves Saint Laurent presented his first ever ready to

wear collection and his first ever ready to wear
boutique. Though the items are high priced, they are
not as pricey as his couture label.

From 1960s to 1970s fashion transitioned as the mood of

the era changed, so did the need for designers to
adapt from couture to ready to wear.
