Annika: Good day dear panelists!

I am Annika Coloma, and together with me are Miss Hariette Barrios,

and Miss Kathleene Calumayan. And we are here to present to you our proposed research project
entitled Guyabano leaves as mosquito repellent incense.

Annika: To start with, why do we need an alternative insect repellent?

According to National Center for Biotechnology Information, Dengue is the world’s most
important mosquito-borne viral disease and is endemic in the Philippines. Based on Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (2021), up to 400 million people catch dengue annually.

And as we all know, mosquitoes are the reason behind dengue. Kaya kailangan natin ng insect
repellent to, of course, repel mosquitoes. However, commercialized insect repellents are toxic.
DEET, a chemical that is active in commercialized insect repellents, are sensitive to animals and
there have been many cases where DEET has caused skin issues to humans. Not only that, it is
also slightly toxic to the environment. This is why we need an alternative insect repellent that is
natural and eco-friendly.

Hariette: Why can A. muricata leaves be used as an alternative insect repellent incense?

One reason is because it has essential phytochemical compounds such as tannins, flavonoids,
and saponins which are effective in deterring pests or insects.

Other than that, the major constituent of A. muricata is Annonaceous acetogenins. It shows a
very high insecticidal ability against a number of insects. Not only that, natural mosquito
repellent products are also eco-friendly and will be preferred internationally.

Hariette: This study will utilize Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) to compare the feasibility of
Guyabano leaves and commercialized incense.

The treatments that will be needed include……and our positive control is….

Kathleene: Moving on…the first procedure seen in our flowchart is Gathering of material…in this step,
dito na bibili ng mga gamit na gagamitin sa study namin. After gathering the materials, dun na natin ip-
prepare yung mga materials natin by washing it with distilled water......................si Kathleene na bahala
alam niya nay un….

Kathleene: Sa Data gathering naman, we will be asking permission from the assigned teacher na gamitin
yung Campus’ Laboratory. Upon approval, we will test our product and data will be gathered.
Afterwards, the data collected will be organized and tabulated.

Lastly, waste disposal. After naming iconduct yung research, we will make sure that all used
materials and or equipment ay ma-didispose properly.
