THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter contains the introduction of the study, objectives of the study, theoretical or conceptual basis of

the study, procedural framework of the study, significance of the study, scope and delimitations and definition of terms

which will all help in the understanding of the concept of the paper on hand.

Introduction

As the time pass by, one of the common problem in our house are insects. Usually the insects in our house

are termites and cockroaches. This kind of insects destroy the parts of our houses and also furniture. Termites build

colonies in wood that affect the structure of our house and furniture while cockroaches are biting us and sometimes

they were living in our furniture. Even in the land farms insect is manifesting crops. The insects are eating and

destroying the crops. And even in the fast food chain they were facing the insect problems like some people complain

because some food had insects.

To avoid it, they use insecticides. Insecticide is a substance used to kill insects. Using of chemical insecticides

may bring many negative consequences that affect the people. When a person comes into contact with an insecticide,

which can be only once or repeatedly, says that is exposed, the effect that can produce to him will depend on the time

of exhibition, the harmfulness of the insecticide, the amount and the forms by which enters the substance the organism.

Acute ingestion of organochlorine insecticides can cause a loss of sensation around the mouth, hypersensitivity to

light, sound, and touch, dizziness, tremors, nausea, vomiting, nervousness, and confusion. The researcher want to

make organic insecticides to avoid these problems.

These organic insecticides was made of malunggay leaves, kamias and chili extract. Chili is an irritant for

mammals and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact and malunggay, is a

multipurpose plant, as the leaves, pods, fruits flowers, roots and bark of the tree can be utilized while kamias fruit is

administered as a treatment for coughs, beriberi and biliousness.

With these as a background, the researchers wanted to find out if malunggay, kamias and chili can be effective

organic insecticides.
Objectives of the Study

The study entitled “Organic Insecticide: A mixture of Malunggay leaves, Kamias and Chili Extract” aims

generally at determining the potential of use malunggay, kamias and chili as raw material in making organic

insecticides.

Specifically, it aims at determining the following:

1. the element of the malunggay, kamias and chili which can be used as a raw material in making

organic insecticide;

2. the physical properties of the organic insecticide as to its color odor and texture;

3. the effectiveness of malunggay, kamias and chili as organic insecticide;

Conceptual Basis of the Study

The study entitled “Organic insecticides: A mixture of Malunggay leaves, Kamias and Chili Extract” is

anchored on the concept of the organic insecticides.

Organic insecticide is nonchemical produced by a plant to ward off insects, fungi and other predators. A

flower called chrysanthemum sometimes called mums or chrysanths, are flowering plants of the genus

Chrysanthemum in the family Asteraceae. They are native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Most species originate

from East Asia and the center of diversity is in China. This flower produces a natural insecticide known as pyrethrum.

The compound is effective against a variety of insects and some manufacturers have formulated a synthetic version

known as permethrin. Some organic gardeners will plant Chrysanthemum flowers close to crops like broccoli to

naturally repel insects like aphids, leafhoppers, spider mites, ticks, pickleworms and cabbage worms.

Procedural Framework of the Study

The study entitled “Organic Insecticide: A mixture of Malunggay leaves, Kamias, and Chili Extract” follows

the process of Input-Process Output (I-P-O). In this process, the researchers determine the raw materials which will

be needed in the production of their product which is a non chemical insecticides and the process that it will undergo

in order to produce the desired results of this study

As its input, the study will use malunggay, kamias, and chili fruit extract. The processes that the material will

undergo are the following: mixing, extracting and storing. In mixing, the three ingredients will put in a clean container

and blend through blender or manually, then on extracting, we will used clean cloth to filter all materials that is not

included in our product. After all these process our product will stored for 2 days in a cool dry place to become an
effective one. Our first step in this procedure is to prepare the 3 main substance/ingredients that is need in our product.

Next is extracting the kamias, chili and malunggay after that. All the extract are mixed in a container and store for 2

days. This will be the product which is the organic insecticides.

Significance of the Study

This study will benefit the following:

Manufacturer of organic insecticide-this study will benefits the manufacturer and they can do this as their

product.

Owner of canteen- this study will help the owners to kill the insect in their kitchen the owner can do this.

They can see the ingredients at home.

Future Researcher - this study to pursue a non- chemical pesticides instead using chemical one. This

pesticides is harmful to plants and most of all to people.

Student-this study can help our fellow student to expand the benefits of the nonchemical insecticides.

Consumers-this study will help our consumers to save more money because this product can be done in our

home
Scope and Delimitation of Study

The study entitled Organic Insecticides: A Mixture of Malunggay Leaves, Kamias and Chili Extract focused

only in insecticides that can kill insect such as cockroaches. And the delimitation of the study is only applicable to the

process of organic insecticides using malunggay, kamias, chili extract.

Definition of Terms

Chili - is an active component of chili peppers, which are plants belonging to the genus Capsicum. It is an

irritant for mammals, including humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into

contact.

Extract-is a substance made by extracting a part of a raw material, often by using a solvent such as ethanol

or water.

Kamias-The fruit conserve is administered as a treatment for coughs, beri-beri and biliousness. A syrup

prepared from the fruit is taken as a cure for fever and inflammation and to stop rectal bleeding and alleviate internal

hemorrhoids.

Malunggay (moringa)- also known as the Miracle Tree, is a multipurpose plant, as the leaves, pods, fruits

flowers, roots and bark of the tree can be utilized.

Oragnic Insecticide- insecticides can be non-toxic to humans and pets and safe for the environment.

Mixing-combine or put together to form one substance or mass.

Storing-keep or accumulate (something) for future use
