year for 6 different corporations. The brokerage houses asked the analysts on staff who had experience
with the corporations in question. 5 analysts were surveyed at each brokerage house. Some descriptive
statistics are listed below:
Source of Variation Sum of
Squares
Between brokerage houses 340.3
Between stocks’ earnings forecasts 132.5
Interaction 22.3
Total 584.3
a. What type of ANOVA applied in this case?
b. Construct full ANOVA table.
c. Conduct the test for effect of each factor and interaction?
d. What assumptions needed to do the tests?
Question 2 (2 points)
In a recent survey, 250 respondents were asked how many hours of television they watched each
week. In addition, data were collected on the highest level of education attained by the individual.
The data are summarized in the table below.
Education Level
Can you reject the null hypothesis that there is no relationship between the level of education and
television habits?
Question 3 (2 points)
A campus administrator has found that 64% of all students view courses as very useful, 20% as somewhat
useful, and 16% as worthless. Of a random sample of 150 students taking business courses, 105 found the
course in question very useful, 25 somewhat useful, and 20 worthless. Test the null hypothesis that the
population distribution for business courses is the same as the above figures for all courses.
Question 4 (3 points) An actuary wanted to develop a model to predict how long individuals will live.
After consulting a number of physicians, she collected the age at death (y), the average number of hours
of exercise per week ( x 1 ), the cholesterol level ( x 2 ), and the number of points that the individual’s blood
x
pressure exceeded the recommended value ( 3 ). A random sample of 40 individuals was selected. The
computer output of the multiple regression model is shown below.
; R2=66.72%
Question 5 (1 point)
A recent survey examined the first-year salaries of 178 MBA graduates. The kurtosis for this data set was
calculated to be 3.56, with a skewness of 0.29. Is there sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis
that first-year salaries for MBA graduates are normally distributed?
Note: All hard-copy documents can be used. Use α=5% for all the tests.
