Rationale

Recollection is indeed an opportunity to pause for a moment and see one’s direction in
life. Just like the invitation of Jesus to his apostles to go to a secluded place and have some rest
( Mark 6:30-34), this activity allows everyone to pray without ceasing (1Thessalonians 5:17), to
have a break from one’s daily routine and pray for God’s strength, responding to Jesus’
invitation to come before him (Matthew 11:28-30), and above all, to give thanks (1Thessalonians
5:18) to God for the gift of life, the gifts of persons and for all the many blessing received.

This Student Recollection is designed for RE 111, RE 125, and RE 101 students enrolled for SY
2022-2023 and are set to provide opportunities fo spiritual growth and enrichment as we
encounter God through other people, through his creation ,and through the many events happenin
in our life. The said activity will be done at NDMU Family Eco-Park, Brgy Paraiso, Koronadal
City.

This special spiritual activity aims to:

a. Provide opportunities to strengthen and deepen our Marist Identity;
b. Strengthen one’s commitment as a response and participation to the Church Mission;
c. Build and establish a journeying community called to an evangelizing activity.

A. Preliminaries
Recollection Expectations
What is Recollection?
Recollection is a time set aside to seriously go deeper into his or her relationship with God.
Although we spend time in prayer each day, recollection is a time to withdraw a couple of hours
from the noise and cares of this earthly life in order to spend some quality time in conversation
with God guided by meditation, spiritual reading, and an examination of conscience. All who are
truly serious about deepening their love and friendship with Jesus Christ will benefit from this
monthly time of recollection and prayer. -St. Josemaria Institute
Jesus’ Solitude and Silence
“At once the Spirit sent [Jesus] out into the
desert, and he was in the desert forty days, being
tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals,
and angels attended him.” (Mark 1:12)
“Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee… ‘Come,
follow me,’ he said.” (Mark 1:16)
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a
solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35) [Everyone was looking for Jesus, but after his time
in prayer he told his disciples that it was time for them to move on to another village.]
“[Despite Jesus’ plea that his miracles be kept secret] the news about him
spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to
be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely
places and prayed.” (Luke 5:15-16; see also Mark 1:45)
“Once again Jesus went out beside the lake.” (Mark 2:13)
“One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his
disciples walked along.” (Mark 2:23)
“Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from
Galilee followed.” (Mark 3:7)
“Jesus went out to a mountain side to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning
came, he called his disciples to him.” (Luke 6:12-13. See also
Mark 3:13)
“Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large
crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it,
while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many
things in parables.” (Matthew 13:1-3. See also Mark 4;1.)
“When Jesus heard [that John the Baptist had been beheaded],
he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place.” (Matthew
14:13)
“Because so many people were coming and going that they did
not even have a chance to eat, [Jesus] said to [his disciples], ‘Come with me by yourselves to a
quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.”
(Mark 6:31-32)

B. Getting to know each other: A Little bit More

Instructions:
1. Allow the students to familiarize the lyrics of the songs.
2. Teach basic steps and movements of the songs
3. Divide the group into two. The 1st group will create a circle in the activity area and the 2nd
group will create another circle outside the circle of the first group and ask them to face
their partner.

clockwise and the outer will also move
clockwise.
Song Title: Oh we walk…

With the halfway turn
with the heel and the toe
to new found friend

Song Title: I want to be your friend

I want to be your friend a little bit more
I want to be your friend a little bit more
I want to be your friend a little bit more
A little bit
A little bit
A little bit more

C. Morning Prayer
The Four Sacred Gifts Prayer

Prayer 1: A Prayer for Faith

Dear Heavenly Father, Your ways are higher than my ways.
I pray for power and strength to surrender my way and follow your best
way.
I trust You, Lord.
In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer 2: The Lord Bless You with Hope

May the Lord show you the greatness of his goodness,
that you overflow with thanks every day.
May the Lord bless you abundantly with rest for the heart,
power for virtue, wisdom for life, and patience in suffering.
May the Lord bless you with joyful hope,
and one day with the inexpressible joys of eternal life. Amen

Prayer 3: Prayer for Peace

Lord, I come before you ready to pour out my worries,
anxieties, and fears at Your feet.
I am claiming and declaring Your promises
for blessings of peace and strength over my life.
Bring peace into my soul that passes all worldly understanding
and make me a light for others to see Your strength. Amen

Prayer 4: Prayer for Love

God,
Remind me that love is always near because You are never far.
When I feel unworthy of love, remind me that You have made me worthy.
And when I feel incapable of showing love,
help me to remember what You’ve sacrificed for me.
Remind me of how loved I am so I can remind others of how loved they are.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

RITE OF RECONCILIATION
Introduction: Good afternoon fellow Marists Students. Sins weaken our hearts but, forgiveness
brings healing and inspiration. As we end this meaningful journey today, let us
ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy, especially for all the sins we have done. In
the name of the Father…
Priest: My brothers and sisters, confess your sins and pray for each other, that you may
be healed.
All: I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned
through my own fault, in my thoughts, and in my words, in what I have done, and
in what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and
saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Priest: The Lord is merciful, He makes us clean of heart and leads us into freedom when
we acknowledge our guilt. Let us ask Him to forgive us and bind up the wounds
inflicted by our sins. Let us now pray to God our Father in the words Christ gave
us, and ask him for his forgiveness and protection from all evil.
All: Our Father…
Priest: Lord, draw near to your servants who in the presence of your church confess they
are sinners. Though the ministry of the Church frees them from all the sins so that
renewed in spirit, they may give you thankful praise. We ask this through Christ
our Lord.
All: Amen.

Examination of Conscience
(Silently recall those moments that you have hurt others, yourself, and God)
Individual Confession and Absolution
(individual preparation for confession)
Note: If you are not yet ready to confess your sin/s you can have it in your respective parishes.
GUIDE FOR CONFESSION
1. Make the sign of the Cross
2. (say) Bless me Father for I have sinned
3. My last confession was ___________
4. My sins are:
1. ___________________________________________
2. ___________________________________________
3. ___________________________________________

5. Those are the sins that I can remember

6. Listen to the Priest
7. Pray the prayer that the priest told you to pray.
8. Say the Act of Contrition
ACT OF CONTRITION
O, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins because of your just
punishment, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of
all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near
occasion of sin.
Concluding Prayer:
Priest: Glory to you Oh God through Christ and the Holy Spirit now and forever.
All: Amen.
Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: and with your Spirit
Priest: May the Lord guide your hearts in the way of his love and fill you with Christ-like
patience. In the name of the Father and of the Son….
All: Amen.
(let us now prepare ourselves for the Holy Mass).

Prayer for Parents

O Almighty God,
you gave us the commandment
to honor father and mother.
In your loving kindness
hear my prayer for my parents.
Give them long lives
and keep them well in body and spirit.
Bless their labours;
keep them always in your care.
Bless them generously for their loving care for me.
Grant that, through your grace,
I may always be their support
and comfort, and that,
after our life together on earth,
we may experience the joy together praising you forever.
Amen.

Prayer for strength

Dear Lord, I come before you and ask for Your strength within
me. A strength not of the world but of Your kingdom. To refrain
from judgment and feast on love. To push out greed and hold tight
to joy. To dispel pride and rise with humility. To quell anger and
rest in self-control. To shun greed and rest in giving. To turn from
power and embrace service. To let go of resentment and rest in
peace. To push through fear and walk forwards in grace. To run
with faith, soar with forgiveness, And allow your eternal strength
to abide with me. Amen.

For Health and Healing

Almighty God, you are the only source of health and healing. In You, there is calm and the only
true peace in the universe. Grant to each of us an awareness of your presence, and give us perfect
confidence in you. In all pain and weariness and anxiety, teach us to yield ourselves to your
never-failing care, knowing that your love and power surround us, trusting in your wisdom and
providence to give us health and strength and peace when your time is best; through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Broken-Hearted

Lord, my heart is broken but You are near. My spirit is
crushed, but You are my rescuer. Your Word is my
hope. It revives me and comforts me in especially now.
My soul faints, but you are the breath of life within me.
You are my help, the One who sustains me. I am weak
but You are strong. You bless those who mourn, and I
trust You to bless me and my family with all that we
need. You will rescue me from this dark cloud of
despair because You delight in me. In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Prayer for Preparation to Study
Lord, I know you are with me and love me.
Give me peace of mind as I prepare for this time of the study.
Help me to focus on my books and notes,
keep me from all distractions so that I will make the best use
of this time that is available to me.
Give me insight that I might understand what I am studying,
and help me to remember it when the time comes.
Above all, I thank you for the ability to be able to study
and for the many gifts and talents, you have given me.
Help me always to use them in such a way
that they honor you and do justice to myself.
