This document provides an overview of a mechanical engineering lab focused on computer aided numerical control (CNC). Students learn fundamentals of numerical control technology and programming of CNC machines using NC codes. They gain experience with NC postprocessors, operating CNC milling machines, and programming and machining complex parts. The lab aims to help students understand CNC features, develop process planning sheets, use CAM software to prepare CNC programs, and machine components per production drawings.

MEC 5105 LAB WORK
Mechanical Engineering Department
COMPUTER AIDED NUMERICAL CONTROL LABORATORY
Lab Overview:
In this laboratory the students learn the fundamentals of numerical control
(NC) technology, programming of computer numerical control (CNC) machines in NC codes.
Students also gain experience in NC postprocessors and distributed numerical
control, operation of CNC milling machines, and programming and machining complex engineering parts.
Lab Out Comes:
LO 1 Understand the features and specifications of CNC.
LO 2 Develop the process planning sheets and tool layouts
LO 3 Use the CAM software and prepare CNC part program.
LO 4 Execute the part program and machine the component as per the production drawing.
You have been given a task to manufacture a component using CNC
Technology to be used in a certain assembly process. Write a CNC program required for machining this 10 mm thick plate. Use absolute tool positioning for both milling and drilling.
