INTRODUCTION

Project Context

The rise of e-commerce has changed the way consumers shop, and online shopping has
become a trend in recent years. With the convenience of online shopping, customers can
purchase products with just a few clicks, making it more efficient and time-saving. However,
the online shopping experience has limitations when it comes to customization. In many
cases, customers cannot customize the products they purchase, and this creates a gap in the
market for a more personalized shopping experience. This project aims to develop an online
shop with customization features to address this problem.

The traditional process of purchasing a casket can be stressful and expensive. Customers are
often limited to purchasing the casket provided by the funeral home, which may not reflect
the personality of the deceased or meet the needs of the family. Additionally, customers may
not have the opportunity to compare prices, resulting in overpriced caskets. This issue can be
resolved by providing customers with a casket online shop that offers customization options.

The existing casket online shops provide a limited customization option, which may not meet
the needs of the customers. These online shops only allow customers to choose the material,
size, and color, and other elements of the casket. However, customers may want to add
specific designs or engravings to the casket to make it more personal. This limitation can be
addressed by providing customers with an online shop that offers a comprehensive
customization option.

Furthermore, the existing casket online shops may not provide customers with enough
information about the casket's features and benefits. Customers may not know what to look
for when purchasing a casket, resulting in a less than satisfactory purchase. Providing
customers with comprehensive information about the casket's features and benefits will
enable them to make an informed decision when purchasing a casket.

STI College General Santos City 2

The proposed research aims to provide a comprehensive casket online shop that offers a wide
range of customization options, providing customers with a stress-free and personalized
funeral arrangement experience. The proposed research will enable customers to personalize
the casket according to their needs and budget, resulting in a more meaningful funeral
arrangement.
Moreover, the proposed research aims to provide customers with comprehensive information
about the casket's features and benefits, enabling them to make an informed decision when
purchasing a casket. This will result in a more satisfactory purchase, reducing the stress
associated with funeral arrangements.

The proposed research is essential as it will revolutionize the funeral arrangement industry by
providing customers with a stress-free, affordable, and personalized funeral arrangement
experience. The proposed research will also contribute to the funeral arrangement industry by
providing insights into the preferences and needs of customers when purchasing a casket.

The goal of the study is to provide customers with a stress-free, affordable, and personalized
funeral arrangement experience. The proposed research problem aims to provide customers
with a comprehensive casket online shop that offers a wide range of customization options
and provides customers with comprehensive information about the casket's features and
benefits. The proposed research problem is, therefore, a solution to the rationale of the study,
providing customers with a stress-free, affordable, and personalized funeral arrangement
experience.

Purpose and Description of the Project

The Casket online shop with customization is to design and develop an online casket shop
that allows customers to customize their caskets through an online application. The
customization application will allow customers to choose from a variety of materials, colors,
styles, and sizes to create a personalized casket that suits their preferences and needs. The
online casket shop will be designed to provide customers with a convenient and easy-to-use
platform to order caskets from the comfort of their homes. The platform will also be user-
friendly, allowing customers to easily navigate and customize their caskets without the need
for technical expertise. The online shop will offer a range of payment options, including
credit cards and Gcash.

Overall, this project aims to provide a unique and personalized shopping experience for
customers who are looking to purchase caskets. By offering a range of customization options,
high-quality materials, and competitive pricing, the online casket shop will cater to the needs
of customers who want to honor their loved ones in a meaningful and personalized way.

Objectives of the Study

The traditional process of purchasing a casket can be stressful and expensive. The proposed
study aims to provide a wide range of customization options for the customers. With the
current pandemic situation, online shopping has become more relevant, and an online casket
shop with customization options will provide customers with a safe and convenient option for
funeral arrangements.

The proposed study aims to provide customers with a comprehensive casket online shop that
offers a wide range of customization options, providing customers with a stress-free and
personalized caskets. This will solve the existing problem of limited customization options
and lack of comprehensive information about the casket's features and benefits.

Bolinao, E. N. (1994). Product Differentiation and Mass Customization discusses the concept
of mass customization: Application, Issues and Challenges for Strategic Management, which
is the ability to produce individualized products on a mass basis to meet specific customer
requirements. The author notes that customized marketing is making a comeback as part of
modern strategic marketing, but there is still a gap between what is desirable and what is
attainable. To fully realize the potential of mass customization, a structure is needed to
address the issues that practitioners face. The article also highlights the history of job shops,
where craftsmen produced customized goods for individual orders, and how mass production
eventually led to standard products for inventory.

Derogongan, R., Agosto, A., & Bariñan, R. (2019) Funeraria and Modern Funeral Homes:
Change, Modernity and Sustainability discusses the challenges faced by family-owned
funeral homes or "Funeraria" in Iligan City, Philippines, due to competition from modern
funeral homes owned by corporations. The article highlights the impact of this competition
on the business, culture, and community of dealing with the dead. The narratives of
"Funeraria" owners and workers reveal challenges on the profitability of the industry and
sustainability of livelihood, culture, and family. The  article argues that the local government
of Iligan and the academe must extend support and scholarly sustain discussion on family,
culture, and modernity to protect Funeraria against corporate funeral homes, politicking, and
eventual loss of culture and family.

E-Payment
Raon, C. J. B., De Leon, M. V., & Dui, R. (2021). Adoption of E-Payment Systems in the
Philippines. This study aims to explore factors affecting the Filipino consumers’ adoption of
e-payment systems. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze data collected from
83 employees of a company’s Marketing Department who use online shopping payments.
The results of the study showed that the significance of the constructs namely perceived risk,

trust, security, use of webassurance seals, perceived usefulness, and perceived advantage
were inadequate to determine its relationships with the intention to adopt e-payment systems.
Therefore, the factors used in this study are not the only drivers that would influence
customers’ decisions.

The trend includes a wide range of shapes, designs, and manufacturing processes, including
LCD screens embedded into the gravestone. The article examines this trend in a religious
context, focusing on Christian cemeteries but also mentioning Jewish and Muslim cemeteries.
It also briefly discusses the advances in engraving technology that have made personalized
memorials possible.

Product Customization
Hvam, L., Mortensen, N. H., & Riis, J. (2008) Product Customization discusses the
importance of customizing products and services for industrial companies to achieve a
competitive advantage, but emphasizes the challenge of doing so profitably. The
implementation of a product configuration system is recommended as a solution, as it offers
benefits such as faster lead times, more qualified responses to customer inquiries, and fewer
mistakes. The book presents an operational procedure for designing such systems, based on
experience gained from over 40 configuration projects.

customization, Product customization important for meeting individual customer needs, but
customers need to be informed about the company's capabilities and the added value of
customization. Customer value analysis helps customers express their preferences and helps
companies justify different customization solutions. The article uses utility functions to
quantify customer-perceived value in terms of quality and cost. Adaptive conjoint analysis is
used to capture the utility function of product quality. With quantitative analysis, customers
can be involved in the product customization process. Product marketing and design
engineering are coordinated through the product family architecture. The paper also reports a
case study of customizing power supply design for a telecommunications system.

customization to meet individual customer needs, but must also address cost factors to stay
competitive. Mass customization, which focuses on both customization and cost efficiency, is
the new business paradigm. It involves understanding customer needs and desires, but
introducing these into product development increases complexity. "Information and
management systems for product customization" is a strategy to address both product
customization and cost efficiency.

Synthesis

The review of related literature emphasizes the technologies and materials needed that could
be used to develop a system that will help automate the operations of the Funeral Homes and
to help casket online shop customers. The review of related studies demonstrates existing
technologies like the proposed system. With the sources presented, it supports the
development of the proposed system.

The related literature has emphasized and discussed the importance of Mass Customization,
it highlights the history of job shops, where craftsmen produced customized goods for
individual orders. We can use this information to understand how customization has evolved
over time and how our online shop can adopt these techniques. This will help us to gain a
deeper understanding of mass customization and provide insights that can be incorporated
into our project (Bolinao, E. N., 1994). Funeraria and Modern Funeral Homes: Change,
Modernity and Sustainability help us understand the impact of competition on small
businesses and the community they serve, which could be useful in developing a sustainable
business model for our online shop. Additionally,it provide insights into the cultural and
community aspects of the funeral industry that could be relevant to our online shop
(Derogongan, R., Agosto, A., & Bariñan, R.,2019). The adoption of e-payment systems in the
Philippines may provide insights that could help with our online shop, specifically our project
involves implementing an e-payment system for your casket online shop. The study may
give us a better understanding of the factors that affect consumers' adoption of e-payment
systems in the Philippines, which could guide us in designing our payment system for our
online shop (Raon, C. J. B., De Leon, M. V., & Dui, R., 2021). The article of Mesana, J. C.,
San Jose, M. M. , Varron, M. C., Bueno, S. H., Atis, P. N., Idusora, V. E., Flauta, O.,
Magana, C. J., Rosales, A., & Millan, I. et al. (2022) provides insights on the preferences of
individuals in the funeral industry. Specifically, it highlights the importance of the type of
funeral and the type of casket, which can guide the design and features of our online shop.
For example, if the type of funeral is the most important attribute, you may want to focus on
providing a variety of funeral packages that cater to different preferences and budgets.
Gabinete, F. E. (2022) article can be used as a reference to support our project and discussion
on the potential benefits and implications of e-commerce in the Philippines. We can also use
the findings and statistical analysis presented in the study as a basis for our research on how
e-commerce can improve labor productivity in the country. Personalized Gravestone may

STI College General Santos City 22

provide insights into the customization aspect of our system. The article explores the trend of
personalization in memorials, which could be extended to the customization of caskets for
our online shop. We can draw inspiration from the different shapes, designs, and
manufacturing processes used to personalize gravestones, and explore how to apply them to
caskets. The advances in engraving technology mentioned in the article can also be relevant
to our project, as they may provide options for customizing caskets with names, dates, and
other personal details (Maresco, P. A., & Zafar, A. U., 2006). Product Customization discuss
the challenges of customizing products profitably and suggest a product configuration system
as a solution. This article could provide insight into how to design and implement such a
system for your casket online shop to streamline the customization process, reduce errors,
and improve response time to customer inquiries (Hvam, L., Mortensen, N. H., & Riis, J.,
2008). Understanding customer satisfaction in product customization and using quantitative
analysis to involve customers in the product customization process. We can use their
approach to identify the features and options that the customers value the most and ensure
that your customization options in our online shop meet their needs (Du, X., Jiao, J., &
Tseng, M., 2005). The strategy of using information and management systems for product
customization to address both customization and cost efficiency. We can use their research to
streamline our customization process and ensure that we can offer customization options at a
competitive price (Blecker, T. ,Friedrich, G. , Kaluza, B. ,Abdelkafi, N. , & Kreutler, G.,
2004). The article of (Abadi, S., Huda, M., Hehsan, A., Mohamad, A. A., Basiron, B.,
Ihwani, S. S., Jasmi, K. A., Safar, J., Mohamed, A. F., Embong, W. H. W., Noor, S. S. M.,
Brahmono, B., Maseleno, A., Fauzi, A. N., Aminudin, N., & Gumanti, M., et al., 2018)
provided discusses the design of an online transaction model for traditional industries to
increase their turnover and benefits. This can be useful for your capstone project as it
provides insights on how to design an effective online transaction system for your casket
online shop.
