COURSE: BFC43502 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH)

SEMESTER/YEAR: SEM 2 2022/ 2023
GROUP PROJECT (20%)

1. Introduction
Risk assessment is the crux of safety & health management. Understanding risk assessment is
crucial towards a better workplace. This project is to be carried out in a group consisting of 5
members, according to the specifically assigned tasks for each group. At the end of this project,
the students should be able to conduct risk assessment at the workplace according to standard
HIRARC guideline.

2. Programme Outcomes (PO), Course Outcomes (LO), Knowledge Profiles (WK) and
Complex Engineering Problems (WP)
There are two Course Outcomes (CO) and two Programme Outcomes (PO) to be addressed by
this project as mapped in the following table:
Course Programme Outcomes Complex Engineering Problems & Knowledge
Outcome Profiles
CLO1: PLO1: This project requires the students to identify,

3. Project Instruction
i. Form a group of 5 students.
ii. Select a construction site for the project. You can either choose a real construction site
or simulate one.
iii. Conduct a preliminary site visit to identify potential hazards and to gather relevant
information.
iv. Based on the preliminary visit, prepare a detailed report that includes the following:
a. Overview of the construction site and the types of work being carried out.
b. Identification of potential hazards at the site (e.g. fall from height, electrical
hazards, noise exposure, etc.).
c. Analysis of the identified hazards using the HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk
Assessment, and Risk Control) guideline.
d. Recommendations for control measures to minimize or eliminate the identified
hazards.
v. Present the findings of the project in a short video (NOT by presenting slides only) that
should include the following:
a. Brief overview of the construction site and the types of work being carried out.
b. Detailed analysis of the identified hazards and the HIRARC process.
c. Recommendations for control measures and their effectiveness in minimizing or
eliminating the identified hazards.
d. Relating safety and health knowledge to engineering practices in the construction
industry.

4. Report format
i. Written in English in A4 sized paper. Left margin: 3cm, Right, Top & Bottom margin:
2.5cm
ii. Use font typed Arial size 11 with 1.15 spacing.
iii. The report must be consists (at least) the following sections:
a. Front page
b. Table of content
c. Introduction
d. Detailed report (as described in 3.iv.)
e. Conclusion
f. List of references

5. Video format
i. Duration between 5-10 minutes
