Operating instructions
Preface
These operating instructions document the twin-shaft mixer TPCD.
The operating instructions have to be handed over to those persons who are
responsible for the operation and the supervision of the machine.
This operating manual includes the information necessary for the operator for instal-
lation, operation and maintenance.
We have refrained from describing tasks requiring no special knowledge.
Instructions for repairs exceeding the normal maintenance tasks are not provided.
The machine was designed and manufactured in compliance with recognised safety
regulations. In spite of this, inappropriate use can put the user at risk of injury.
For this reason, safety has been given the highest priority.
The corresponding safety instructions are indicated as follows:
Danger!
Risk of injury for persons.
Caution!
Warning against material damage.
Note:
Important information or instructions.
Important information
• Procedures upon receipt
Inspect the equipment visually in accordance with the delivery contract as soon
as it has been received.
• Storage
Equipment that is not installed immediately must be stored protected from
weather and other influences.
• Installation
The assembly and installation of the machine and machine equipment must
only be carried out by observing all installation instructions provided.
• Design variants
If different designs are described in the documentation provided, only the infor-
mation concerning the version supplied will apply. We reserve the right to make
modifications due to technical progress up to the time of delivery.
• Duty of instruction
Only trained specialists are permitted to commission the system or carry out
maintenance work on it. Prior to initial start-up, the operating personnel are
required to become familiar with the documentation provided.

1 Safety
1.1 Safety of personnel
• Protective covers, hoods and gates must be installed and closed at all times.
Open or missing safety covers are danger spots for crush and cut injuries.
• Always keep safety devices in good working condition. Never bypass or disable
any safety devices.
• The system must be shut down before any maintenance work may be carried
out on the twin-shaft mixer!
Make sure that all energy sources such as:
– Electricity
– Pneumatics
are switched off and disconnected. The lockable main circuit switch, which inter-
rupts the power at all poles, must be set to “0” and locked.
2 Description
2.1 Designated use
The twin-shaft mixer TPCD is intended exclusively for processing products in the
area of application as defined in the contract. Any use beyond the contracted area
of application shall be considered noncompliant use.
Note:
Do not remove or cover up the identification plate.
The data indicated by “” has been imprinted on the identification plate according
to the specific machine.

• The mixing trough, the shafts and the mixer blades are made of stainless steel.
The shafts and mixer blades are Teflon-coated.
• The mixing shaft bearing is located on the outside. This arrangement enables
easy access to the shaft seals and prevents bearing grease from entering the
mixing trough.
• The drive takes place by means of flat gear motor on the mixer waves. The
moving in opposite directions mix-wave-exaggerated is lubricated in the oil bath.

3 Transport
Allow personnel to transport the system only if they are familiar with the task and
have received proper training.
Danger!
Never walk beneath suspended loads.
Caution!
Check the crane and hoisting device for the required layout and the permitted load.
Hoist the twin-shaft mixer at the specified suspension points only.

Note:
Always observe the transport weights provided by the forwarder in the shipping
documents.
4 Installation
4.1 Site requirements
Space requirements, floor openings, bearing surfaces and floor loads are in accord-
ance with separate planning documents.
4.2 Installation
• Block the assembly area from unauthorised access.
• Secure the surrounding area (remove any items that could cause someone to
stumble etc.).
• Allow sufficient clearance for performing installation and set-up tasks.
4.4 Disassembly
When decommissioning the twin-shaft mixer
(for overhaul, dismantling or disposal purposes), disassemble it by following the
installation steps in reverse order.
• Before beginning the disassembly work, the person in charge must obtain the
corresponding instructions for safe disassembly from the manufacturer.
• The twin-shaft mixer may be removed only in observance of all accident preven-
tion measures and only by trained personnel. These personnel must be familiar
with all relevant safety precautions.
5 Commissioning
Only personnel who have been trained and authorised to do so may commission the
twin-shaft mixer, perform test runs and make adjustments.

6 Operation
6.1 Emptying at end of production
1. So that the twin-shaft mixer empties itself to the greatest extent possible, the
product slide gate must be pulled out.
2. The zero-speed detector ensures that the mixing trough cover has stopped
moving before the mixing trough covers can be opened.
3. The pneumatic cylinders unlock the mixing trough cover.
4. Now the mixing trough covers can be opened and the material to be mixed can
be pushed in by hand.
7 Maintenance
Only personnel who have been trained and authorised to do so may perform main-
tenance work on the twin-shaft mixer.
Danger!
Never perform any maintenance, cleaning or overhaul work unless the
machine is at a complete standstill (all machine movements have been
stopped).
The lockable main circuit switch, which interrupts the power at all poles,
must be set to “0” and locked.
7.2 Lubrication

Fig. 7.2
Danger!
In areas that come into contact with foodstuffs, only use lubricants that are
harmless for human consumption.
Caution!
When relubricating, always use the same lubricant for each unit that was used in
the initial filling, since mixing different grades can impair the lubricity.
In case of uncertainty regarding what can be mixed, fully remove the previously
used lubricant as a precaution.
If difficulties arise in procuring our recommended lubricants, you can also use
others with comparable specifications (see Annex).
7.3 Cleaning
Caution!
Only use a plastic scraper to clean the mixing trough. Under no circumstances use
a metal scraper.
Swing up the mixing trough cover to clean. When fully open, the mixing trough cover
locking devices lock automatically.
Note:
We recommend carrying out these tasks once a week.

7.5 Disposal
Dispose of the twin-shaft mixer and its components in accordance with your locally
applicable codes and regulations.
When decommissioning the machine indefinitely, dispose of all components and
materials in an environmentally responsible manner and recycle whenever possible:
• Liquids (diesel, motor oil, gear oil etc.)
• Hazardous waste (e.g. batteries, electronic parts)
• Remove and separate plastic parts
• Pre-sort metal parts by type of metal
8 After-sales service
8.1 Ordering spare parts
When ordering spare parts, please refer to the information on the following pages.
Please note that special manufacturing and delivery specifications are frequently
applied to Bühler and non-Bühler parts, and that the spare parts supplied by Bühler
always conform to the latest technical state of development.
Ordering instructions
An order for spare parts must include the following information:
Note:
These order details are required to prevent incorrect deliveries.
If a part being ordered cannot be distinguished clearly, please include a dimen-
sioned drawing and a description.
When ordering spare parts that do not have part numbers, be sure to include the
subassembly number and, in place of the part number, the parts list item number.
Motors and gears:
Please include the motor or gearset number when enquiring about or ordering
spare parts.
