India has embarked on a journey towards creating an enabling environment by putting in place an
ecosystem that breeds innovation. The Government of India has launched several significant initiatives
for propelling innovation, such as the Start-up India initiative, Accelerating Growth of New India's
Innovations (AGNIi), Atal Tinkering Labs, new intellectual property rights (IPR) policy etc. All these
initiatives, coupled with phenomenal research and innovation from the institutions, industry, and
society, are cementing India's position as an innovation and knowledge hub.
ASSOCHAM National Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Council has been working to promote culture of
creativity & innovation in the country and initiated many recognitions over the years like ICT Startups
Awards, Intellectual Property Talent Search Examination Awards, IPRISM Awards etc and customised
capacity building programmes for Startup, MSMEs, enforcement agencies, technical and non-technical
universities, individual innovators, innovation centres etc. We have also established IP facilitation
centres to provide handholding services to the innovators in association with the Ministry of Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India with the prime objective to boost
Intellectual Property (IP) culture by guiding and assisting in identification, protection and management
of Intellectual property Rights (IPRs).
Now, we would like to recognize enterprises that have used IP rights to develop solutions that have
made a positive contribution to society, economically, socially, or culturally and also the facilitator of
creativity and innovation therefore announced, “2nd IP Excellence Awards”. The Awards seek to
recognise IP champions who have leveraged the effective use of IP to innovate, transform and grow.
FOCUS SECTORS
• Engineering/ Manufacturing Sector: Instrumentation, Energy and Power, Automobile, Chemicals,
Metals and Metallurgy, Textile, Food & Beverages, machinery, engines, electrical and electronic
equipment and other sectors.
• ICT & Services: Software development; telecommunications activities; publishing activities, including
software publication; motion picture and sound recording activities; radio and TV broadcasting and
programming
• MSMEs: Definition of MSME will be as per the revised Classification applicable w.e.f 1st July 2020. Proof
for micro, small and medium enterprises should be submitted either in the form of registration
certificate for MSME or certificate by auditor that the company is in MSME category as on December
2021.
• R&D Institutes: Public funded laboratories (under CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, DAE, DST, DBT, MeitY etc.), private
sector research labs, autonomous labs set up by Trusts/Societies.
EVALUATION PROCESS
ASSOCHAM IP Excellence Awards is a three-stage funnel process:
