At the end of 45 minutes with 80% level of proficiency the students should be able

a. identify the elements of poetry


b. differentiate each element of poetry
c. elaborate the importance of the elements of poetry.

1. Opening prayer

ELEMENTS OF POETRY

Figurative Language

language:
1. Simile - the comparison of two things using
“like” or “as”.

Example: She is sweet as a candy.

2. Metaphor - two things are compared


without using “like” or “as”.

Example: Men are dogs.

3. Personification - giving human traits to


objects or ideas.

Example: The streets are calling me.

4. Hyperbole - exaggerating to show strong


feelings or effect.

Example: I will love you forever.

5. Onomatopoeia - a word that makes a


sound.

Example: SPLAT! PING! POP!

6. Idiom - a saying that isn’t meant to be


taken literally. Doesn’t “mean” what it says.

Example: You’re the apple of my eye.

D. Generalization
