Name: Lea Jiebelle G. Sildora Week Number: Day 1 Dates: February 22, 2023
Area of Assignment: Team Leader/Supervisor: _____________________

I. Objectives (for the week)

● To have full understanding about 2GO apprenticeship
● To check if all the requirements are satisfactorily completed by the student trainees prior
to their deployment.
● To help the trainees to know the Do and Don’t while their onboard training with the
chance to reflect on their Apprenticeship Program

II. Reflections from the Objective

On February 22, 2023 at CIHTM Department the trainees were assembled by 12:00 PM
in the Afternoon. After we finished filling up the evaluation form the trainees started to go in
the university bus. At exactly 1:00 PM in the afternoon the trainees together with their OJT
adviser Doc. Jennifer Reyes departed at the CIHTM Department. At 4:00 PM the OJT adviser
decided to stop over at the SLEX to buy some food and stuff that the trainees will need. The
duration of the travel starting at the CIHTM Department to North Harbor Port is almost five
hours. We arrived at the North Harbor Port at 6:00 PM. Before we boarded at MV Maligaya,
we were not allowed to leave our university bus and wait for the STO to allow us to enter the
port. Before we enter the STO give us a paper to sign and give our tickets to enter the vessel.
While we entered the port station, we put our luggage to the scanner to be able to scan our
belongings. Then our STO told us to gather in one place to identify that we are trainees.
While waiting we took the opportunity to take some photos together with our STO, Ma’am
Michelle and our adviser Ma’am Jen. While boarding the ship I’m amazed by the beautiful
ship in front of us because it is our first time on the ship.
When we arrived at the ship the front desk staff approached us and guided us to our
assigned rooms. My expectation on our accommodation is that there are ten trainees in a
room but I’m so grateful that 2GO gives us a comfortable room to stay. After we settled our
things in our room the front office staff announced that our dinner was ready and we ate at
the Horizon Cafe Extension. After we ate our dinner the STO told us to be ready for our
Night orientation at the Multi-Purpose Room. The night orientation was conducted on
February 22, 2023 at 8:45 PM in the evening at the Multi-Purpose Room. In the orientation,
the STO conducts an orientation to be able to fully understand the flow of our apprenticeship
onboard in MV 2GO Maligaya since the duration of our apprenticeship onboard is only 10
days. First, our STO introduce herself to us then she discusses the house rule of the vessel
and the do’s and don’ts while we are on training. After the orientation the STO distributed us
the materials that we needed for our training.
Before we leave the Multi-Purpose Room we give our requirements to Ma’am Kate for
further review. She told us that if there is plenty of time or vacant time, she might conduct a
mock interview for us. After the night orientation we go to our room and get ready for
bedtime because our curfew was 10:30 pm. At first, I was nervous because this was the first
time I was going to be on a ship.

III. Accomplishment/s for the Day

First, we arrived safely and on time at the port. I, as one of the trainees, am grateful to
have arrived safely. Then we I fully understand what apprenticeship means because it was
discussed during the orientation. Our Shipboard Training Officer explained and discussed the
Do and Don’t while we were in the apprenticeship training. We need to accomplish the Ten
days or 240 hours training without violating the house rules. They also explain the
requirements that needed to be accomplished by the trainees. They also remind us of what are
the Do’s and Don’ts when we are in apprenticeship.
Before we go to the vessel our OJT adviser check the trainee's requirements if there are
missing requirements, they give us time to submit the requirements which includes the
Application letter, Resume, Medical Certificate, Medical Results, Psychological Exam
Result, Notarized Parent Consent, and School Registration with attached ID. For the
application letter we need to draft our application letter to our MS Teams and address it to our
respective manager of the establishment. For the resume, the instructions are the format or
template available on the internet, observe honesty and correctness to the resume and attach a
professional picture. For the medical results and medical certificate, we need to accomplish
the medical laboratory to be able to get a medical certificate fit to work at the University
Clinic. For the Notarized Parent Consent, we need to fill out the needed information and get
signed it with our parents or guardians and notarized it to the attorney. For the school
registration we need to upload a copy or screenshot of our school registration with a clear
scanned ID.
At the orientation, the STO gives us the materials such as our apprenticeship polo shirt,
2GO Apprenticeship Manual and our Apprenticeship ID that the trainees need to wear all the
time to be able to be identified. After the distribution of the materials the trainees are back to
their rooms. I unpacked my things and organized it so that I can easily crab the things that I
needed.

IV. Realization About the Task/s (knowledge/skills/values learned)

During the general orientation to the vessel, I learned about the importance of
Apprenticeship onboard. Because of apprenticeship onboard can strengthen our working
skills that we can use to our future career. It can also give us the opportunity to learn and
gather new knowledge and skills. I also learn the value of teamwork it made me realized that
we need to work as a team not as a competitor. We need to work together to achieve our
goals and proper communication is a must.
I also learn to the orientation that the Do’s and Don’ts in the practicum establishments.
We learned about the attendance, proper attire, and proper conduct during our training. For
the attendance, the trainees must log in and log out to the attendance sheet. The trainees need
to be on time during their duties and need to log in 10 minutes before the duty. The trainees
need to take their meals on time the breakfast is 5:30 AM, the lunch is 10:30 AM, the dinner
is 5:00 PM. For the attire the trainees must wear their proper uniform such as for the front
office the trainees must wear corporate attire, ponytail and light make up for female. For the
food and beverage, the trainees must wear black slacks, white polo shirt, black shoes,
ponytail hair and light makeup for female, also the trainees must wear their hair net both male
and female. For housekeeping, the trainees must wear black slacks, white polo shirt, black
shoes, ponytail and light make up for female and trainees must wear gloves for cleaning at the
restroom and shower room. Also, trainees must wear their ID’s all the time whether they are
on duty or not to be able to identify the trainees. Also, the STO reminded us even we go
outside our rooms we need to wear a decent cloth and the trainees are not allowed to wear
slippers outside. For the proper conduct, all trainees are not allowed to smoke while in vessel,
no cellphone while on duty, no bomb jokes and no throwing of trash to sea. Our STO
mention to the trainees that if we violate a rule that was equivalent to 1 hour. Also, if our
group member violated a rule the consequence will also by group.
V. Most Memorable Practicum Moments
My most memorable practicum moments during the day 1 is that I amazed by the
beautiful ship like the M/V Maligaya. I amazed how big it is and kind of nervous at the same
time. I’m so happy for the wonderful experience like this. The expectation to the
accommodation where meet. We thought that our room is tatami but we are relief that our
room is separate to our co-trainees. During our arrival to the ship the employees of 2GO
travel is so accommodating and approachable.
At first, it would not be easy because it was my first time to do the face-to-face OJT, but I
think as the time passes by, I would get used to it and enjoy the OJT. And I’m hoping that I
can improve my skills, self-confidence, and friendship with others. Next is the expectation of
the company from me is that I can help with their jobs, learn some good things from them,
and improve my skills that will also help my future career. Lastly, the OJT can develop
myself as a person through all my experience, and through my help and my supervisor
because I think they can make us a better person by coaching us what is right to do, that can
give us encouragement to show my ability and what I learn from them.

VI. Difficulties Encountered and Solutions Made

The challenges that I encounter during our departure is that we are shocked to see how
high we will go up and the luggage we have are so heavy that we need an assistance to be
able to bring our things inside the vessel. Second is the internet connection are poor I can’t
communicate with my family and friends. I can’t update them what’s happening to me in the
ship because of the poor connection. Third is that because it is my first time to be in the ship,
I feel nervous because I might get sick while on duty. Also, I was scared to deep water
whenever I look down to the sea.
The solution that I do to resolve the problem. First, even the stairs are high I think of it as
an exercise to my body and ignore the tiredness of my body. Second, I have no choice about
the internet connection because we are in the sea and I understand why I don’t have internet
access. During my free time I read the manual for review. Third, I ignore my phobia in water
and see the beautiful scene and view.
