Snakes are reptiles (cold-blooded creatures). They belong to the same group as lizards (the scaled
group, Squamata) but from a sub-group of their own (Serpentes).
Snakes have two legs but a long time ago they had claws to help them slither along. Snakes are
not slimy. They are covered in scales which are just bumps on the skin. Their skin is hard and glossy to
reduce friction as the snake slithers along the ground.
Snakes often sun bathe on rocks in the warm weather. This is because snakes are cold-blooded;
they need the sun’s warmth to heat their bodies up.
Most snakes live in the country. Some types of snakes live in tress, some live in water, but most
live on the ground in deserted rabbit burrows, in thick, long grass and in old logs.
A snake’s diet usually consists of frogs, lizard, and mice and other snakes. The Anaconda can
eat small crocodiles and even bears. Many snakes protect themselves with their fangs. Some snakes are
protected by scaring their enemies away like the Cobra. The flying snakes glide away from danger. Their

Nowadays, the police have been applying the new regulation concerning the use of seat belts. In
European countries, this regulation has been applied for a long time. However, this new regulation has
become controversial and is an interesting topic to discuss. Here are some of the arguments.
The use of seat belts has been proven to reduce the risk of injury or death in an accident. Seat belt
has become standard component in cars. The research shows that most car accident will cause an injury
to the head. Frequently, drivers or the passengers driving without seat belts die because of this. By
wearing the seat belts, the injury will not happen since belts restrain our body on the car seat when the
accident happens.
Unfortunately, many cars, especially the old ones, don't have seat belts. This is because the traffic
conditions in the past were unlike the recent traffic conditions. The designer of old cars didn't consider
a seat belt as an important part. Besides, the drivers wearing the seat belt will think that they are
completely safe, so they may drive carelessly. They are safe, indeed, but how about safety of other?
The seat belt is only one of the ways to reduce the risk of car accidents. It doesn't mean that we are
completely safe In short, our safety depends on ourselves.

22. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?

A. Old cars do not use seat belts.
B. The old cars have seat belts for their safety.
C. The drivers wear seat belts may drive carefully.
D. The traffic conditions in the past were similar to the recent.
E. The old cars' designer considered a seat belt as an important part.

23. "... that they are completely safe." (Paragraph 3) What does the word 'they' refer to?
A. Cars D. Designers
B. Seat belts E. Others
C. Drivers

Pros and cons of Abortion

Do you agree with abortion? When someone asks this to the people, there may be many "yes" and
equal number of "no", voicing their opinion over this. Abortion has always been a debatable subject
amongst the masses as people have their own arguments regarding it.
For those who are for, they think that sometimes life can be really harsh on us. In some cases,
medical emergencies make a woman resort to this action because there is a possibility to be at risk, if
she delivers the child. In some other cases, some of the rape victims can be minors. They won't be
mentally or physically prepared to have the newborn baby. Giving life to such an unwanted child may
cause troubles for both mother and the child.
After all, abortion implies denying someone a well-deserved life. Just because the odds are not in
our favor, can we deprive someone the chance to live? Besides, having an abortion done also carries the
risk of not being able to become pregnant ever again in life. Abortion can also lead to serious health

THE PRINCESS DIARIES

Meg Cabot
Harper Collins
Young Adult
ISBN: 0380814021
304 pages
As the hilariously funny tale called The Princess Diaries begins, Mia Thermopolis is just a regular
high school freshman at Albert Einstein High School. Well, as regular as you can be when you live in a
loft in downtown New York with your flighty artist Mom. And as regular as you can be when your best
friend is Lilly, a punky and spunky militant who produces her ownTV show.
As readers can guess from the title, this book takes the form of a diary, written by Mia. Over the
pan of a month, she relates her daily woes and embarrassments in heart breaking detail. As with most
teenaged girls, Mia thinks she is hopeless, looks-wise. She's tall --- 5’9" --- and klutzy, and not so gifted
in the chest department.
Then there is school. One of Mia’s biggest problems is the fact she is flunking Algebra and, to
make matters worse, her Mom has begun dating her teacher. Gross.
In the boy department, the cutest one in school has the locker next to hers, but doesn't even know
Mia exists, even as his snooty girlfriend Lana, a popular cheerleader, torments her. And to top it off, Mia
is developing some sort of weird crush on Michael, Lilly’s computer nerd brother.
Then one day, Mia finds out she is a princess. Okay, I know that doesn’t sound bad to most girls,
but Mia hates the idea instantly. How does this fairy tale come true? Her father is ruler of the principality
of Genovia and since Mia is his only child, she is next in line to the throne. Her dad sends in the big guns
to convince Mia that being a princess is what she is meant to do: her formidable grandmother comes to
New York to give Mia "Princess Lessons". And as the word spreads around Albert Einstein High School
that Mia is royalty, her life just gets more crazy.
The ending of The Princess Diaries is a twisty one and will leave you jonesing for more stories
of Mia and the rest of her friends.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS
Captain Phillips is an upcoming 2013 American biographical action thriller film directed by Paul
Greengrass based upon the book, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous days
at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Tatty, and starring Tom Hanks. It is produced by Scott Rudin,
Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca. The film tells a biopic of merchant mariner Captain Richard
Phillips, who was taken hostage for several days by Somali Pirates when the container ship Maersk
Alabama which sailed from southern Oman drown along the coast of Somalia and then to Kenya was
hijacked in 2009.
Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), a veteran merchant mariner, still lives in his native New
England, and he's a plainspoken family man full of anxiety about the economically bleak new world his
kids are facing. When his wife (Chaterine Keener) drops him off at the airport, we can see reverse her.
The film then cuts to Somalia, a land of dust and poverty, where the pirates are recruited for their mission
as if they were migrant farm workers lining up to be chosen for that day's labor. Greengrass doesn't have
to fill in much about the violent, chaotic breakdown of Somalia to let us know that these men have little
choice.
The film does not generate quite the same level of excruciating suspense as some of Greengrass'
previous triumphs, but it nonetheless holds us hostage as it proceeds. As for the four Somali immigrants,
they are remarkably effective in their first professional acting gigs.

Muslim’s Headscarf
The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the UN charter and considered by many to be a
basic human right. Some religions require special diet, others prayer at specific times. Why should a
religious mode of dress receive as much protection as these other aspects of religious freedom?
Many Muslim women view the veil as a means to protect their modesty and privacy. Just as we
would not force any women to be seen in public in her underwear if she did not feel comfortable doing
so, why should a woman be forced to show her hair if she does not want to? Modesty is a personal
judgement, some are comfortable in the smallest bikini while others prefer a lot more clothing. No one
but the woman herself should make that decision.
Muslim women are not the only ones to feel coerced over their mode of dress. Most people are
affected by the societal norms surrounding them. Fashion trends could be seen in exactly the same light
as religious traditions.
Banning head coverings is only likely to provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious
communities. Framing laws to ban only Islamic forms of dress could be considered an attack on one
religion. Feeling under attack could cause the Islamic community to close off into itself. They could set
up religious schools where their children can dress as they want them to and not mix with children from
other faiths. These effects could never be good for the integration of society and would further
the influence of extremists. Internationally, the perceived attack on Islamic values would inflame wider
Muslim opinion, feed conspiracy theories and add to the dangerous feeling that there is a clash of
civilizations.
Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing Muslims freedom of religious
expression. In a multicultural society, students should be aware of the different religious practice and
cultural traditions of their classmates, and be taught to understand and respect these.
Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslim’s headscarf as a part

Being On time
Being on time is a beautiful social ethic and one of great importance, as it creates efficiency in
system and implies respect for one another. However, it is one the many values that is not easy for our
students to learn.
Inner discipline, one that comes from an understanding of the set rules and regulation, is the
highest form behavior. Most excellent schools try to instill this with a loving environment. Why, even
adults arrive late to meeting, work, et c. Here, we do not agree that late comers should be shut out.
They can be given warnings, most of which are enough to make them try their best to reach the school
on time latter. If this fails, invite the parent to school.
By closing the gates, the school is behaving cruelly, to which we prefer not to expose our
children. Every school has responsibility to implant good educational principle, but it should be in
appropriate ways. Good schools create competitive students who can organize themselves effectively
in society, so that everyone gets a quality life as a result of the ethics and values learned for as long as
12 years.
Children are precious and dependent on the adult for guidance. Understanding them is the key,
and to this end, both parents and schools must work hand in hand without playing the blame game.

29. What should the school do if a student can’t stop his/her habit to come late to school?
A. Punish him/her
B. Shut him/her out
C. Fail him/her
D. Talk to his/her parents
E. Try to understand him/her
30. What does the writer think to be “the highest from of behavior” (in the second paragraph)?
A. Respect for one another
B. Not being late to school
C. Understanding the regulations
D. Understanding the rules
E. Inner discipline

meaning to ….

Boarding School Education
There are many arguments in favor of a boarding school education. Nevertheless, the boarding
school is not always the best education institution for everyone.
At an early age interacting and communicating with people is very important for a child’s
personal life and can be especially helpful for his/her future. In a boarding school, shy children can
take advantage of interaction through communal activities. The boarding school also offers a great
variety of activities such as arts, sports, and music that allow children to demonstrate and develop
specialized skills in their free time.
Furthermore, the structured way of life and strict rules at the boarding school may helps
students to get used to a well ordered way of life. The manners and social skills will help them to
become more responsible and confident, and to develop their talents in leadership. Professionally
trained teachers and educators in the boarding school can offer excellent education without the parents’
constant supervision.
In spite of these good points, it is not advisable to send a child to a boarding school if he/she is
a dependent learner. A boarding school usually demands that student learn independently. In addition,
the boarding school should not be seen as a measure to solve inappropriate behavior or unsatisfactory
study performance. Instead of improving, problematic children may close off their relationship with
their peers and teachers.
In conclusion although a boarding school may provide good education to many children, it is

The following text is for questions 9 to 11.

My family of three went to see an early screening of the new Disney movie, "Brave" yesterday,
so thought I would write a quick "mommy" review of the movie.
Disney definitely breaks the standard "Disney Princess" mold with this movie as Princess Merida
is a fun, outgoing and wild girl that for once is not in search for the love of a prince. The characters in
the movie are entertaining and I loved the way that the Scottish culture comes out in the movie. I found
myself wishing for more music though, which is one of the things that I truly love about past Disney
movies. I would compare this movie more with "Shrek" than a movie like "Tangled".
As to the age of the kids that would like this movie I would have to say maybe 5 years old and
up. The movie is not quite engaging enough for very young viewers, which was a little disappointing for
our three years old. There were parts of the movie that our daughter enjoyed, but it is engaging enough
for younger viewers in the audience and made them cry, so be forewarned of this if you are bringing
children under the age of five years old.
I've always been a big fan Disney movies so on a 5-star scale I would rate this 4-star movie. It's
definitely not a favorite, but I give it four star for the relationship that build between Merida and her
mother. I think this offers a great lesson to appreciate your family and truly listen to each others need
and concerns.

9. What does the writer think of the music in "Brave"?

A. Too much
B. Too little
C. Wild enough
D. Demonstrative
E. Very beautiful

B. It has a good music composition
C. It is the same as the other Disney movies
D. It does not have any lesson for the children
E. It gives a bad impression of a mom and a daughter

11.How does the writer feel about the movie?

A. Amazed
B. Frustrated
C. Appreciative
D. Disappointed
E. Not worthy enough

12. I’m tall when I’m young, and I’m short when I’m old.
A. A tree
B. A candle
C. A snake
D. A glass
E. A stick
13. What goes up but never comes down?
A. Kite
B. Age
C. Plane
D. Rain
E. Wind

14. If you got me, you want to share me. If you share me, you haven’t kept me.
A. a cookie

Skateboarding

Anybody who is over the age of six knows that there is nowhere safe for skateboarders to skate.
This prevents young people from enjoying an active, energetic and adventurous pastime.
Just watch a local street for a short while and note the steady stream of skaters speeding up and
down the footpaths. Toddlers can be trampled on and old ladies can be knocked down as they struggle
home carrying their cat food from supermarkets.
Skateboarding is a serious sport that improves young people’s health. It increases fitness,
improves balance and strengthens the joints in knees and ankles. Although it appears to be a solo sport,
when groups practice together and compete to perform stunts or runs they form firm friendships.
Young people should be prevented from becoming overweight couch potatoes. If they are
actively involved in skating, they do not smoke, take drugs or break laws for fun.
Kids will always seek thrills and excitement. They need to practice their 180s, 360s and Ollie’s
free from restrictions. We must build skate parks in the suburbs so that streets are safe for small children
and senior citizens and skaters have spaces where they can race, chase, speed, and soar towards the sun.

17. Where do the kids usually ride their skateboard?

A. In the main roads and foot paths
B. In front of the supermarket
C. In front of their home

These effects could never be good for the integration of society and would further the
influence of extremists.
Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslim’s headscarf as a part of
school or office uniforms.

27. What is Muslim women’s view on the veil?

A. It is an obstacle of their freedom
B. It is to protect their modesty and privacy
C. It is a fashion trend among them
D. They feel being forced to wear it
E. It is what their parents told them to wear
28. Paragraph 4 tells us that banning on Muslim headscarf could ….
A. Arouse social conflict among social communities
B. Maintain solidarity among social communities
C. Provoke a more extreme reaction among highly religious communities
D. Teach students social awareness
E. Make Muslim women loose their identity

29. “Intolerant schools make up problems as an excuse for not allowing…..” (paragraph 5) The
underlined word is synonymous with ……
A. Reason
B. Custom
C. Expectation
D. Evidence
E. Requirement
